Lappoy's Flying Fortress, A Solo RPG, Crowdfunding Ending in 2 Days

Art Update: When I first created this map, I was rushing against the Appx. N Game Jam deadline and I filled all the rooms with chairs, tables and Bric-à-brac and then faded the map into the background to give the impression of a blueprint. Inspired by writing the pledge achievement incentives, I decided to move ahead with populating the map with details from the hazards and flavor text. See if you can spot them all: A room that lost gravity, a fire, room filled with gas, the Xellaxian tusked tiger on the loose, an unexplored missile, biomechanical larva pouring out of a pipe, and a distressed spider droid asking for help.

Tell Me if It Hurts - A Corporate, Medical Horror Zine

Follow on Backerkit for updates

Three medical horror one shots and two reuseable storefronts to be dropped into a campaign (SPOILER ALERT):

  • Surgery Shopping Spree! - A highly injured party seeks suspiciously inexpensive care at Stitch Happens Surgeries, a subsidiary of STEINCorp. They can sell their organs to pay for surgery, but be beware of the side effects.
  • Catch That Kidney! - You have been hired by STEINCorp to reclaim a life-saving kidney from a patient whose check bounced. The morality of taking the kidney back flip-flops as more is revealed - the patient is an arms dealer selling to both sides. They’re secretly supporting freedom fighters by sabotaging weapons sent to the empire - but they’re funding medical experiments on war orphans, because the evil empire unleashed a kidney-killing virus.
  • ChatTherapist: Hallucination Free - Due to a clause in the contract with STEINCorp, players must attend a HR-mandated Stress Management course. They are locked in a room that turns into a Milgram-inspired group shock therapy where PCs are pitted against their grievances, traumas and each other.
  • Two wound and condition recovery storefronts that can be revisited later in the campaign: Stitch Happens Surgeries and InstaTherapy* *Treatment side effects may include hallucinations, nightmares, introduction of alien species, loss of organs, lactose intolerance, loss of depth perception, and teenage angst.
  • Handouts will include a patient intake form, a colleague feedback form, and a contract for kidney retrieval mission.
  • Cover art by Kevin McKie.

TripTech Game Jam feedback for Surgery Shopping Spree!:

"This is amazing! I am not really in need of more adventure modules, I already have more than I can possibly run. I am however always looking for good easy-to-use supplements to throw into other adventures to flesh out the setting."

"1000% YES. THIS is how you do Mothership. Weird, dangerous, and extremely likely to get players killed, but they'll jump in feet first."

"Love this. Honestly I'm just taking this wholesale and sticking it into every shore leave and starting town. Very funny, very dark."

"Absolutely love the humour, vibe, and description!! Fits a MoSH vibe really well and I think fun as both a scenario and just a surgery down time device."

"This is legitimately brilliant! It is actually going right in my campaigns right away."

"OMG. I didn't know I needed my Chakras surgically realigned. That's so cool!"

A drawing for my new Mothership Solo RPG Launching Today - Eyebrows or No Eyebrows?

I worked on this a long time before I realized I was unconsciously imitating 🥺👉👈. The eyebrows make me laugh, like he stole your brain but he feels REALLY BAD about it.

If you like this, please check out my solo Mothership adventure, Lappoy's Flying Fortress, which launched today.

This is an Appx N Game Jam submission and here are some of the reviews I received:

"Love how smooth this all works together, looks incredible, great execution of the theme."

"This feels like I could pick it up and play it tonight. One of the things that moved the needle on the writing rating for me is that the terse prose feels perfectly fit for the sci-fi race-against-time style of the module."

"I'll just say it's such a fun and snappy solo game with a lot of open ended  outcomes and a desperate and suspicious tone. I'm particularly a fan of the Schrödingers character where's until the end you could be one or the other, adding to the tension and uncertainty of it all."

"Suspicous, then clueless, then intrigued, then into it.

The amnesia works SO well in this. Very, very well done!"

Lantern After Action Report

Lantern is a new adventure by the creator of the popular Icarus one shot. You are hired to find a missing scientist exploring a phenomenon of disappearing ships and come across an escape pod being pulled into a massive leviathan-like ship. It reminded me of the incredible The Stars are Legion novel, if you’re familiar with that.

So, first off, everyone had a tremendous time. We walked out smiling ear to ear. The players loved the atmosphere, the twists, the social conflict, everything really.

Spoilers Ahead

If you approach the escape pod, the ship turns out to be a gigantic, bio mechanical angler fish and swallows your ship whole to digest it into parts.

There were definitely lots of questions about how the biomechanics worked or looked that left me improvising, but I felt like there was plenty of flavor on the page to support me in that. For example, what the harmonic doors looked like, they became sphincters or irises. The baby ships looked like tad poles and swallowed people who were forced into a brain cavity that sealed behind itself. There was also lots of opportunity for gross out humor, which we all loved.

One note, there were lots of attacks from the metazymes, the bug like critters that act like the beasts cells and singers, which enslave trapped people, but almost nothing hit. The way I played the singers was they had to do a successful combat roll to attach and then two successful body rolls.

Ultimately my players lied to Emil, the crazed scientist obsessed with the ship. They shot him point blank and in the ensuing chaos loaded their ship AI into a child ship and got in the escape pod so their new child ship could swallow the escape pod and transport them to safety.
