Salmon River Q

With the weather being so hot this week, I'm looking for a place to take a dip and swim. Salmon River (by the falls) has crossed my mind, but I've never actually been. I want to check first if swimming there is normal. I also don't want to be in the way or disrespectful to fishermen/women. I have no idea if it's fishing season or not!

Would appreciate regular users letting me know if swimming there would be inappropriate. Thanks.

Looking for WATER BASED DYE artisan t-shirt makers

Anyone on here make graphic tees with a water-based dye technique? I so, please share your online shop.

I'm looking for new graphic Ts and have found those using this technique last much, much longer than the typical screen-print ink/paint.

To clarify, I'm not looking to place an order for custom-design. I want to buy t shirts with designs already made. Love to support artisans over corporations.

TY!

Knee Pad rec for distance recreation skating??

Hi, wondering if there are any causal recreation skaters that can recommend some pads. I don't do tricks. Looking to rollerblade on bike paths and paved parking lots for exercise, about 10 mi.

A lot of feedback is about derby and aggressive pads that seem too intense for what I'm doing. Also, people say the 187 Killer and Triple 8 pads (which are for sliding) force your knee to bend, making it awkward for recreation exercise skating.

Anyone have pads they recommend? Thanks.

T shirt cuff style?

Looking for 100% cotton, white t shirts that have this kind of "raised" neck and sleeve cuff. What is the name for this style or seam type? Anyone know, please share so I can better search for them online. If you happen to know a brand that sells these, that would be helpful too.

Question for Urban Sketchers Chapters

My observation is that Urban Sketchers chapter groups are made up mostly of older adults and missing the 20-39 demographic. For chapters that do have young adult engagement, why? How? What are you doing to draw them to sketch events? Does anyone have suggestions for getting 20-39 year olds to attend chapter events?

Neighborhood commercial districts improving?

I haven't been a resident of Syracuse long enough to notice the incremental (and usually slow) improvement of small commercial districts in neighborhoods. My feeling is that they lack relevance and vibrancy and desperately need new life. I'm wondering if long term residents could speak to this and inform me of where (if at all) neighborhood commercial corridors do seem to improving. To clarify, here are the types of places I'm talking about:

- *outside* the downtown central district

- within city limits

- usually in residential area though not necessarily serving residents

- examples include James St in Eastwood, S Salina street through the south side, Little Italy on N Salina, South Ave by Glenwood Ave, Westcott near Thornden park, Butternut St

I feel like there's nowhere "to go" in most neighborhoods. No core. No blocks or intersections with relevant shops. Most don't even have a decent coffee shop and bar, but there are other practical shops lacking: gift shop, laundromat, used book store, grocery, hair salon, pharmacy, day care center, pet groomer, dance studio, thrift store, barber, tailor, chiropractor...stuff people return to month to month if not week to week. My neighborhood does not offer this. A lot of other neighborhoods I've lived in in other cities have. I'm not expecting everyone's needs to be met in their neighborhood, but gosh, some neighborhoods don't seem to have even 2 things on this list! And where there are several and a somewhat distinct commercial corridors (eg. James St in Eastwood), there's still a lot to be desired, so much potential unrealized, or a kind of stagnation. Has anyone seen momentum for change in these places? Please share.

Anti Bug Soap recomendation?

Mosquitos love me and it's that time of year when they attack. Someone recently recommended washing in the shower daily with a natural soap with citronella in it. It makes a good baseline defense to supplement other natural sprays and oils I guess. Not to be considered your strong barrier.

Wondering if anyone else does this and finds it helps. Also, do you recommend a soap maker or brand where I could buy a bar? Also wondering if you use soaps with other natural scents known to repell mosquitos with good results. Thanks!

Where are the Estate Sales??

All the other towns and cities I've lived in, estate sales are posted in Estatesales(.)net. But apparently that's not what people do in Onondaga County? How do I find a list of weekly estate sales to check out?

I'm wanting to buy a silverware and dish/china set and estate sales are where I want to look. But where are they!?

If you have the available time to join one of these, should should! If you're looking for a sign, this is it.

Has anybody else noticed their lilac blooms are really small this year? Maybe my memory is faulty, but I thought they were much larger in previous years. I'm guessing it's because of a dry spring and quick warm up.

Anyone else?
