Hi everyone. I really need an outside perspective because my emotions are all over the place.
I'm a Kerala Christian woman, and I've gotten really close to a Karnataka Brahmin guy over the last month or so. We met through work, and things progressed naturally. We talk almost every day, he calls me "darling," he's told me he loves me, and we tease each other constantly. We have so many inside jokes now that I honestly smile every time I think about them.
For example, I jokingly told him I'd twist his ears when we meet, and he started saying, "Every time you say that, I'll increase the minutes." I said I'd bite him, and he laughed and said, "Come bite me." He even joked, "Are you my girlfriend or what?" and later came up with a nickname combining our fake names (Ryan + Maya = RM). We also have plans to meet before my birthday.
So from the outside, it really feels like he likes me.
But here's the problem.
I'm a Kerala Christian, and he's a Karnataka Brahmin. This is honestly the biggest issue between us.
We've spoken about it before, and I know religion worries him. He once said something along the lines of, "If I were Christian...", which made me feel like he sees religion as a real obstacle. Today, while we were joking around, I said that if someone asked whether I was his girlfriend, I'd probably say yes. He laughed and replied, "Don't expect yes from me also." He was laughing the entire time, so I honestly don't know whether he was teasing or indirectly telling me not to expect a relationship.
Later in the same conversation, while we were joking around, he also said, "That's what best friends do." So I feel confused because one moment he's flirting, calling me darling, saying he loves me, and joking about us as a couple, and the next moment he says something that makes me question whether he sees a future with me.
Another thing that happened recently: one evening he didn't text or call me after saying we'd talk later. I waited for hours and was really upset. The next morning he called and explained there had been a power outage at his house. We spoke for around 15–20 minutes, and everything felt normal again. So this isn't someone who constantly ignores me. He does make time for me, calls me, and seems genuinely happy when we talk.
My fear isn't whether he likes me.
I honestly think he does.
My fear is whether he can ever get past the religion and family aspect. Being a Kerala Christian and him being a Karnataka Brahmin feels like a huge difference, and I'm scared that no matter how much we care about each other, that will always be the deciding factor.
I don't want to spend months getting more attached if he's already decided that he could never marry outside his religion. At the same time, I don't want to walk away from someone who genuinely cares about me just because I'm scared.
Right now, my plan is to let things grow naturally for a few more months. If, after that, he still feels religion is a barrier and doesn't see a future with me, I'll probably step away—not because he's a bad person, but because my feelings are real too, and I don't think I can stay in something with no direction forever.
Has anyone here been in a relationship between a Kerala Christian and a Karnataka Brahmin, or any interfaith relationship where family and religion were major obstacles? Did it work out? Were you able to convince your families? And based on everything I've shared, does it sound like he's genuinely interested but scared about the future, or am I reading too much into his actions?
I'd really appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who've actually gone through something similar.

Calling me darling, hon everything we both were praising each other so much, then I asked him about you like casual or serious type of relationship he was like I'm not in that situation so I'm not sure then he kinda talking about sex and stuff and he was like talking about that he loves pleasuring over reciving love and added so much pleasure and you'll pass out idk why guys maybe I got high..!! And i asked will u pleasure me(the most embarassing thing to ever ask for) he was like are you asking for it I'm unsure i expect a connection if you're not willing to break and stuff basically he was asking for time or indirectly he just rejected me I don't know this so damn embarrassing like I feel so awkward to talk....and the embarassment is at high
I really don't wanna lose this man he ticks everything which I need in a man, but my fate is so horrible that I don't know how to approach him plus he's an introvert. I don't know how to make things right or should I apologise for 5 days only we spoke and on 6th everything's gone
If you have any advice pleaseeee help meee..... Like i said I don't wanna lose this guy.....
