Hi,
I’m pretty sure my back right wisdom tooth erupted and it’s been causing me minor pain. I ask this because my dentist didn’t bring it up during our appointments this year and since i’m a 20 y/o college student unable to afford another out of pocket appointment I just wanted to see if this constitutes for an extract appointment.
I also have a fear of getting them out since when my mom did, it wrapped around a nerve causing her chin to become paralyzed.
The other 3 aren’t even out of the gums yet. The pain is tolerable and only bugs me if I chew directly on it or poke it.
As the headline reads, I am writing a travel article on Curaçao and don't just want to write about fancy hotels and restaurants. I want to know some favorite spots for excursions, dining and places to see when there. Since this article will be broken up into separate sections, it is easier for me to just plop in different places throughout the sections.
I have listed the Netto Bar as a place to try their green rum, but are there other local spots that have a signature dish or unique experience that is different from other Caribbean islands?
Thanks!
Does anyone know why this would happen? When I ask the advisor what stands out it’s always that my HR went up one beat or that my breathing shifted ever so slightly. It’s weird because this has happened twice this past week and I have felt completely fine
The only pattern that I could kind of see is that on theee days I may go to bed like an hour or two later? But still it freaks me out a bit haha
I’ve been doing pretty well in terms of recovery so I decided I needed to start implementing some minor exposure therapy into my life.
This fell for today, where I was craving a doritos loco supreme and baja blast. Knowing that TB was partially responsible for carrying the lettuce that carries the GI parasite, I was very nervous.
I also know that TB recalled and pulled any harmful lettuce in all locations. I wouldn’t have done that if they did pull it (because that would be dumb even if I didn’t have emet)
So I just ate my meal. Hopefully everything will be ok. I just wanted to share
Hi all,
before flaming me in the replies. I last minute with my roommate had to get campus housing (after the room decision deadline )
I can’t dorm, is there any possibility that there would be UC housing available this late. If anyone has had any experience with this in the past pls let me know. This is awful, DePaul housing and UC have been nothing but difficult this whole process. We dealt with a plethora of back and forth unresolved issues via phone call back in April. They told us we would be fine in UC but looking at the UC website a loooot of their rooms were sold out…….im very much freaking out.
Thanks
*This is going to be a long string of thoughts I was thinking a second ago and wanted to put it here - It’s not necessarily 100% emet fully but kind of a lot of topics of OCD and other patterns and breaking habits!*
For the last month (ish) I have been on a mission to grow out my natural nails. My whole life since I was around 6 I bit my nails, cuticles and skin around it. I had poor nail health and would often get acrylics and improperly care for them. As someone with OCD I think a lot of the nail biting came from a compulsion after doing something anxiety inducing to relive myself.
With that, one day a few weeks ago I decided ‘I really want long healthy nails so I can save money on nail care and start doing cute nail designs on myself!’ And it worked! That was the first time I decided to break a habit and actually follow through with it. I haven’t had any issues or compulsions to bite them and it’s been completely normal for me. I actually felt very sad when they would chip occasionally and I’d have to file them down.
You may be wondering how this ties into emetaphobia at all. Well it’s really just me being so frustrated that my brain will let me stop something that I have been routinely doing for 15 years and then decide to just randomly stop.
Sure, I am not deathly afraid of having long nails. But biting them was something that was apart of me. Something that my brain did thag was easy for me to justify and not think twice about.
With this fear of being sick, I literally cannot do anything to heal or recover. Recovery seems impossible when any bit of exposure, critical thinking, self acceptance doesn’t work the second I am actually triggered. When I am actively fine (not feeling sick or nauseous) I can scream from the rooftops that vomit doesn’t affect me and it’s not as bad as I make it out to be.
Because it’s my conscious non-OCD driven brain being rational. But the second I feel off and it’s not my 3 ‘comfort nausea feelings’ (sounds weird but like period cramps for example I’ll get nauseous but be completely fine because it’s not related to my stomach) I freak out.
I tell the nail story because I wish it could easily apply like this does. I wish I could just accept the uncomfort and let myself get sick if needed.
I am so obsessed with actually being sick that half the time I want to do it so bad because it would feel so good and also just wanting to know how it’s like! It’s been well over 5 years since I got sick and over 10 since I had some bug. It’s just like my anxiety would rather make me feel so awful and sick rather than letting myself go through a 2-10 second process.
I could simply say to myself that next time I feel nauseous I am going to admit it and accept it and allow myself to get sick if I need it (like in relation to growing out my nails) but it won’t happen. I would need help either with meds or exposure therapy I don’t know.
I watch my friends and family talk about getting sick so casually and it makes me jealous. I want to just be like “lol got sooo sick this weekend after eating this gross food it sucked anyways…..” and not harp on the fact that something so terrifying for me is a second thought conversation starter for others.
It’s hindered so many things. I hate roadtrips now, I hate flying now, I hate eating new foods at new restaurants now, I hate having a stomach ache after drinking water and the list goes on. I am actively destroying my prime years by letting a horrible disorder and phobia control me. I am scared to become a mom eventually because of the pregnancy process. There are so many things that frustrate me that I can’t immediately control.
After the few weeks it’s taken me to grow out my nails long enough to be noticeable, every time I look and want to be proud of myself for accomplishing breaking a bad habit I can never bask in the glory long enough without feeling worse that I can break one habit but not another pattern based behavior such as this phobia.
Thank you for reading this long strain of word splatter. I don’t really know if I necessarily need advice or anything but these bigger nuanced discussions about the phobia is awesome. So feel free to share and discuss and I’d love to talk to others with similar stories.

I am a college student expecting my first interview for an internship with a nonprofit local journalism foundation tomorrow afternoon.
This will be my first ‘real’ interview with something involving the field I’m perusing. I am undoubtedly a little nervous and have been over preparing this interview but I just wanted to know from any people in the field who are hiring managers / editors or someone who overlooks their employees hiring process what do you look for in an interview?
Obviously this would have to be very generalized advice since every newsroom is different but are there are general guidelines that you follow when conducting an interview and what are some expectations you want for the interviewee?
And finally, is there anything I absolutely shouldn’t do during this process.
Thanks,
Hi all, I am looking for some advice on my situation. This is definitely very related to my OCD and please do not give me grief for being slightly vulnerable.
I have had a pretty severe nicotine addiction for about 5 ish years? I’ve been wanting to quit for the last few months but i’m really scared to go cold turkey and get the nausea / bad withdrawals that come with it.
The only reason why I’m nervous to ween off with other nicotine related things such as pouches or gum is because (and this is the kicker) i’m scared the nicotine in those will be more intense than a regular vape and will get me sick (i know it makes no sense and it probably wouldn’t affect me but I don’t like being buzzed from nicotine and the only reason I vape still is the addiction to the hand mouth movement rather than the buzz).
I’m not saying my vape doesn’t make me feel garbage, that’s half the reason I want to quit. I feel gross when I vape and I want to stop but there are so many what if’s. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know :-)
I am not censoring this post!
I recently have been starting to slowly incorporate very basic exposure therapy into my life by allowing myself to be okay with fake vomit / vomit scenes in movies and TV.
This is obviously only going to work if it’s a quick clip, i am not at the point where I am able to watch a graphic long vomit scene but i’m able to actually watch and listen to a 10-15 second clip for the most part.
I hated being held back by this fear in entertainment aspects like going to the theater or watching a new series. I have had a hard time watching new things because of it and I simultaneously convinced myself I had a weak stomach to these things (I am definitely sensitive to specific gore scenes but i think that’s normal) but in reality it’s just me being scared to even test it out.
I really tested this by seeing Obsession this weekend (btw great movie) and there is 2(?) vomit scenes and they weren’t bad. The first one I did look away from since the context was kind of scary but the last one was completely fine. I also was fine after and didn’t get nauseous!!
Long story short, slowly acclimatizing yourself into this horrific phobia will make it easier.
I just got banned from the emet sub lmao. I haven’t said or done anything since Monday (?) And they’re very upset at me for confronting their weird behavior.
“We hope you take this time to reflect” dear god
Hello, I am a college student creating a final story for my political reporting class. I am writing about pre-legalization in Illinois and looking out for any Illinois residents who are invested in the marijuana business and have criteria (owner, long-time worker...). This story will not be published, but this is my final for this class, so I will be treating it like a professional interview.
This also applies to anyone in Illinois who got an illegal charge pre-legalization. I know that it is way harder to find someone who would be willing, hence why I started here.
If you or anyone knows anyone who would be willing to have a very quick interview, please let me know! I don't know if a post like this is allowed, but I thought I would ask because it is kind of hard to get in contact with local dispensaries willing to participate.
Thanks!
Hello, I just got into a big confrontation with the mods at the original emet sub and will be coming here. I’m just frustrated because they didn’t like that I told them that you could have emet without OCD 😵💫
Does anyone have any insight on why my oura flagged major signs after starting antibiotics for my ear infection? I thought it was interesting
It’s really cool how accurate it is
