Lower GPA 10+ years ago at CC. Should I address it?

Hi all,

I struggled with some personal and mental health issues early on in my college career, which led to a sub-3.0 GPA. However, once I got on the right meds and left an abusive relationship, I got an AA and BA both with 3.8+ GPA.

I'm applying to PhD programs this fall. Should I address the lower grades from more than a decade ago? Or just try to focus on my growth and highlight the higher GPAs?

Thanks in advance.

My wedding set

1.51ct VVS2 D color with garnet side stones. The wedding band is all lab diamond as well.

I've been wearing them for four months and I still catch myself staring!

Turns out all my vomiting was norovirus, not Zep. I'm back on the shot!

About a month ago, I made this post and it got a lot of comments telling me that my vomiting should not have been happening. Shortly after seeing my doctor, I made another post explaining that I would be stopping Zepbound immediately because of all the vomiting.

Then my husband got diagnosed with norovirus and the timeline coincided with me being sick.

Turns out it wasn't the Zep at all.

I'm back in the saddle and ready to get going again!

Sorry for all the updates, I have no one irl to talk to about all this except my husband.

Mascara for lower lash line?

This feels like a ridiculous question to ask but I have long lashes on the bottom and if I use the same mascara on the top and bottom, I have spider eyes. Is there a softer mascara that I can use on my bottom lashes that will accentuate them without making them look ridiculous?

Any other tips are welcome too!

Thanks in advance!

Lots of makeup and beauty items (Inner SE)

Drugstore and high end makeup. Most have never been used but may have been swatched. They are great products, I'm just trying to get rid of stuff I know I won't wear. I received a lot of this stuff in an advent calendar or part of a beauty subscription. It's all legit, if that makes sense.

Eye cream is the only thing that has directly touched my face so if you want to exclude it, fine by me!

I'd prefer it if someone can take everything but if your skin tone doesn't match mine, I'm happy to give you everything else and do the complexion products separately. Please let me know if this is the case in your comment.

I'll do a raffle on Wednesday afternoon. That is, July 8th.

Happy to meet anywhere on the east side.

I hope i can give this stuff a good home!

Edit: If you would like a detailed product list, let me know and I can put one together. I'm hoping the pictures are enough. I am lazy.

Stupid question: Should I confirm a Zoom meeting beforehand?

A professor and I are meeting over Zoom next week. She has been on vacation all of June, so the meeting was set weeks ago. Should I send her an email to confirm and say I'm looking forward to it? Or do we just meet on the day?

Concealer help - ND dupe?

The Natasha Denona concealer has been my holy grail for a while. However, I have recently decided I will no longer be using her products. I'm about out of my concealer and i need a new one. Does anyone have a good dupe? My skin tone is light/fair with a neutral or slightly golden undertone.

If not a perfect dupe, I'm looking for something with medium to full coverage (more medium coverage) that's hydrating but has staying power.

Thanks in advance!

An update from the "How often are you vomiting" post...

I'm stopping Zepbound immediately.

That's all.

Thank you to everyone who commented on the other post! It was super helpful and helped me feel more informed when I spoke with my doctor today.

All the best to all of you on your journeys! I'm hoping I can find another solution.

How can I help my dad who has become HoH?

I hope this is allowed. I wasn't sure where else to post and I'm struggling. My dad is 76 years old and requires hearing aids. He got some over the counter but refuses to go see a doctor to get his ears checked. He's stubborn and at this point he can barely hear anything.

It feels like his mood is getting worse every day because he can't hear what's going on and he can't follow conversations. (I recognize that there is nothing wrong with being deaf; please don't misunderstand me.) It just seems like he's having a really hard time with it and I don't know how to do better.

I don't know what advice I'm looking for but anything would help. I hope this post doesn't come across the wrong way.

Thanks for reading, and thank you all in advance for any insight.

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT: Rules Update

Hello, all!

We are here to update our rules. Many of you have made your voices heard.

Due to popular demand, we are adjusting our rules to better reflect the core purpose of this subreddit: to ask women. We would also like to remind you all that all women are welcome here. Happy Pride!

Furthermore, men are welcome to engage with this subreddit respectfully, and that includes no longer leaving top-level comments. (A top-level comment is a comment in response to the original post, rather than a response to someone else's comment.)

This is a subreddit to ask women questions. It is not a general discussion subreddit or a more broad ask subreddit.

Thank you all for making this subreddit such a lovely place!

BA from an entirely usage-based program. Worth it to apply to generative-based PhD programs?

Basically the title. My degree is in Linguistics but the university I attended exclusively teaches usage-based theory. Will this hurt me if I want to apply to a school that teaches generative theory?

Sorry if this is a stupid question; I just need a reality check.

Thanks!

Are there any languages where passive voice is unmarked and active voice is marked?

My gut says there are not, and I can't find anything, but I thought maybe someone here might know something niche.

Eyeshadow palettes (Inner SE)

Five eyeshadow palettes from Colourpop. I haven't used any of them. The mirror is showing in the purple one because that was the one I was most interested in. I got them as part of a gift/promo thing and I'm just not a colorful eye girlie. Colourpop makes really good eyeshadow. I hope these can find a home! Plus they might be great for Pride looks!

I'm happy to meet anywhere on the east side.

I'll do a raffle on THURSDAY evening. I'm extending it due to the overwhelming amount of interest and I want to give everyone a chance.

Edit: The pictures don't do them justice. They are all monochromatic and very vibrant. The middle one on top is bright red, and the bottom right one is bright yellow and gold.

Anyone made the move from Portland OR to Austin?

I love Portland. My husband loves Portland. We don't want to leave. However, I've got my eye on a PhD program in Austin, TX and it might just be a perfect fit.

I'd love to hear stories from anyone who made this move. I've been to Austin and really enjoyed it but only as a visitor and I'm worried about the climate. I live for the gloomy PNW.

Someone please tell me they've made this move and enjoyed it.
