people who gym before work—how does it work?

context - i (22F) am about to start my first full time corporate job downtown. In uni was pretty used to going everyday at whatever random time of day slotted into my class schedule, but now my job involves long hours so i’m pretty sure morning is the only time that works.

I’m just wondering any advice on how early people get up to make it work, and how the whole morning routine goes (particularly women, who have to get hair/makeup ready). also context my gym is closer to work than home so i have to go to work directly, and i take the subway to gym/work

curious for any general advice you might have as i figure out this new morning routine, but some specific questions include:

- do you take a full shower at the gym every time? do you every go to work without?
- do you carry your gym stuff to the office or buy a locker or something to store it at your gym?
- do you switch between casual shoes, gym shoes, and work shoes?
- makeup-wearers: do you get fully ready at the gym or go to work and do it there? also do you carry around your makeup+hair tools to the gym/office?
- do gyms downtown tend to be quite busy at that pre-work time (7-8am?)

thanks!!

nice restaurants that deliver?

i have a $40 work dinner stipend (including delivery) and figure if i’m stuck at the office, may as well try out some places i wouldn’t normally splurge on for a takeout - looking for reccs of any cuisine! i am vegetarian though, so can’t try much steak or seafood-forward

favourite rooftops with an unpretentious vibe

looking for reccs for any rooftop restaurants/cafes/bars that are unpretentious, or won’t charge an arm and a leg (à la Kost, Lavelle, etc).

My fav of this type is Paupers or forno cultura, and was wondering of any others i didn’t know about!

thanks :)

clothing etiquette: women in IB

hi! i’m starting a job as an IB analyst soon (bank, canada) but was looking to get advice on the dress code / clothing etiquette.

there seems to be a ton of clear cut rules for men, plus everyone i worked with seemed to live in the uniform of white dress shirt, blue/grey pants, and maybe a vest. however, it’s less clear for women as there’s way more options and i’m not sure if the same dress code rules apply

any advice is helpful, but some specific questions include:
- should i avoid black suits? heard that for men
- are knitted tops / nice sweaters okay, or should i stick to blouses and button ups
- are fitted tops acceptable or no?
- what is the line for too much jewelry (bracelets, rings)
- are certain fabrics a no-go?

ik it can be bank/team dependant but tbh i interned on the team im returning to, and my team had no women + all the women i observed on the floor dressed pretty differently, so im not sure what the general etiquette is like

thank you! (also if anyone has reccs for affordable places to shop for work attire that’d also be appreciated)

suggest me books set in these european cities (so i can relive my trip!)

hi all! i just finished a europe backpacking trip and am looking for suggestions for books that take place in the cities/regions i went to (so i can re-experience the vibe of the place and the culture!). i’m talking about books that are set there, or where the place is basically a character in the book, something with a strong sense of place - for example, Berlin by Bea Setton, or Valentine in Montreal by Heather O’Neill

Looking for fiction reccs, i like LitFic or Romance (not cheesy/smutty), but am open to whatever, except for mystery and horror. Also open to english translations from the original language

Cities/places i am looking for:
- Dublin / west ireland
- scotland (glasgow, edinburgh, highlands)
- london
- france: paris / lyon (anywhere france tbh)
- germany: berlin / hamburg
- prague
- vienna
- budapest

Thank you!!

title - travelling through europe soon and was just thinking about this. i’m from toronto and don’t have a distinctive accent that would distinguish me as canadian - i feel like it honestly is important to me not to be lumped in, especially with everything happening right now, but was curious how other people feel?

is it something you get annoyed by? do you make a point to say where you’re from, or do anything else to distinguish yourself?

hey everyone! i’m leaving this week to spend a month in europe, with the next 2 weeks through dublin, then glasgow, edinburgh and london in the uk

i’m from canada and naturally, a big hockey fan. my team, montreal, is advancing to the next round of playoffs and since i don’t have any of the streaming services id need to watch overseas, i was wondering if hockey is something ever shown in bars/pubs in the uk, and the likelihood of me being able to catch a game on the tv in any of the cities i mentioned? i know the time difference is an extra factor besides cultural differences, so was just curious, thank you!!
