EBike vs RegularBike Heart Rate

EBike vs RegularBike Heart Rate

Just playing around with data, and comparing my average heart rate across grades. This includes stops, conversational rides, just how I ride my bike on average. Not surpsingly, my hr is a little lower at most grades for the eMTB. But at sufficiently steep grades, the EMTB goes higher and this increases in grade difficulty. My guess: I shift to hike a biking at some point over 20 percent gradse, and keep at it on the eMTB. Still collecting more data, but I thought that was pretty cool.

Should we drop grades at UO

U Michigan is dropping them due to the "mental health crisis", also known as the college budget crisis.

Of course grades at UO are interesting reflection of what has happened across the country, with some grade inflation, but not as much as many other schools. Only business, econ, and math exist as majors without much grade inflation.

Should we drop grades? Would any of you still come to class if grades were dropped?

Ebike vs. Regular Bike and Exercise Effort Across Terrain [OC]

Across both of them steeper terrain means more effort until the grade get' over 20 percent. Then the likelihood I start hike a biking (and my heart rate falls) increases a lot. Ebike, I keep going for it.

Data sources: Strava kept the data for which I accessed via their api. Collected via my garmin watch. Visualized via python and with coding assistance from Claude. Trail mix is not held constant (I have not ridden all of the trails on my ebike that I road on my regular MTB). Regular MTB is a Kona Process 134. Ebike is a kona remote 160. Kona remote is ridden mostly in trail mode which offers roughly a 100 percent boost on rider effort on the uphill.

Longer Rides and Range Anxiety

I go on longer rides in Oregon sometimes. I find the "range" predictions on my bike are basically useless (predicting ranging on flat ground/paved roads).

So I built a web app that offers predictions based on the main things that eat battery.
Every bike ride needs a necessary among of joules to complete it, so I built a basic physics engine to improve predictions, and tell you what tune of your ebike can get you over the finish line. Note that mobile downloaded GPX files sometimes eliminate the elevation and hence won't work well and get you accurate predictions.

Mass
Grade
Temp

Feel free to try it out, just me a DM me if you want the link given reddit's filters. If you upload either self reported battery readings with GPX files (strava) it'll tune better over time, with with FIT files with continuous battery draw downs that will help me to estimate parameters specifically to terrain type and grade. Long term goal is to estimate parameters better and tune to trail conditions (better traction parameters).

Paisley sucking me into country

I've never been but country music fan but I went to see stadium of fire for the 4th of July with family. Brad Paisley blew my mind and is sucking me into country music. Anybody else get sucked into a genre of music by one live show?

Bike thieves here are the worst

Update bike is recovered!!!!!

My friend is retired, and is enjoying his second life as a bike enthusiast. He loves getting kids on bikes and does all sorts of free bike clinics and mountain bike coaching etc to help spread the love biking around Eugene.

Today he was doing a free bike clinic at Monroe park. He put his bike down for a minute to help instruct some 8-12 yr old kids on body position. In broad daylight somebody grabbed his bike (he was about 20 ft away) and peddled off with before he could catch them (he's in his 70s which translates better to biking than to running). The kids were freaking out, so he mostly focused on calming them down while this jerk peddled off with a bike that he'll sell for pennies on the dollar. Theft is reported to bikeindex and Eugene Police.

If you see a small trek Fuel Ex around the sketchy parts of Eugene, call the police or just offer the bums a $100 and I will pay you to get my friend his bike back. Picture below from his phone.
