I built a tool that keeps developer portfolios synced with GitHub automatically

https://theportlio.com
I've been building a side project called Portlio over the last few months.

The problem I wanted to solve was simple: I kept finishing projects, pushing them to GitHub, and forgetting to update my portfolio. By the time I started applying for internships, my portfolio was already outdated.

So I built Portlio.

It lets you:

  • Connect your GitHub account
  • Choose which repositories to showcase
  • Generate a portfolio website
  • Add context about your projects
  • Keep your portfolio updated as your GitHub changes

Some recent improvements based on community feedback:

  • Demo mode (no GitHub login required)
  • Multiple portfolio templates
  • Better onboarding
  • Faster page loads (mobile Lighthouse: 90 on the landing page)
  • Improved GitHub sync flow
  • Better project storytelling instead of just listing repositories

I'm not really looking for design feedback anymore—I want to know whether this actually solves a problem for developers.

A few questions:

  • Do you maintain a portfolio, or has it become outdated?
  • Would you trust GitHub as the primary source for keeping it updated?
  • What would stop you from using a tool like this?

You can try the demo here without signing in:

https://theportlio.com

I'd appreciate honest opinions, especially from developers who've gone through internship or job applications. If you think this is solving the wrong problem, I'd rather hear that now than after launch.

Built a SaaS while in college. Looking for honest feedback from fellow Students.

I'm a [B.Tech](http://B.Tech) student, and over the past few months I've been building a project called **Portlio**.

The idea came from a problem I kept facing myself: every time I completed a project, I had to manually update my portfolio. Eventually it became outdated.

So I built a tool where you connect your GitHub, choose the repositories you want to showcase, pick a template, and your portfolio updates automatically as you build more projects.

Over the last few weeks I've also:

* Added a demo mode (so anyone can try it without signing in)

* Improved the UI and onboarding

* Fixed bugs based on Reddit feedback

* Optimized performance

This is my first serious SaaS, and I'm still learning a lot. I'm not expecting everyone to use it, but I'd genuinely appreciate honest feedback on the product, pricing, UI, or even whether you think the idea solves a real problem.

Demo: https://theportlio.com

If you're a student or developer, I'd love to know:

* Would you use something like this?

* What's the first thing you'd improve?

* Is anything confusing or unnecessary?

Brutally honest feedback is welcome. I want to make it genuinely useful before focusing on growth.

Built a tool that turns your GitHub into an automatically updating portfolio

I've been building this over the past few months.

The biggest problem I wanted to solve was how quickly developer portfolios become outdated.

Portlio connects to GitHub, lets you choose the repositories you want to showcase, generates a portfolio website, and keeps it updated whenever your projects change.

I'd appreciate any feedback on the product, UX, or idea itself.

Demo available without signing in:

I rebuilt my portfolio builder after months of Reddit feedback. What do you think?

A few weeks ago I posted my project here and got some brutally honest feedback. People pointed out confusing navigation, performance issues, bugs, and that the product didn't inspire much confidence yet.

Instead of moving on, I spent the last few weeks fixing it.

Some of the bigger changes:

* Added a full demo mode (no sign-in required) * Improved the onboarding flow * Fixed repository selection bugs * Simplified the landing page and messaging * Reduced page load times and optimized performance * Improved reliability and overall UX * Better project descriptions and portfolio generation

The idea is simple: connect your GitHub account, choose which repositories to showcase, pick a template, and your portfolio stays updated automatically whenever your projects change.

I'm still actively building it, so I'd really appreciate honest feedback, especially on:

* Is the value proposition immediately clear? * Is anything confusing? * Would you actually use something like this?

Try it here: [**https://theportlio.com\*\*\](https://theportlio.com)

I'm not looking for signups as much as I'm looking for criticism. The last round of feedback improved the product a lot, and I'd love another reality check.

How I got my Laptop delivered 5 days late, and how you can avoid it.

This laptop (Legion 5 Pro Intel i9 275HX 32gb ram and 1tb ssd with 5070) was supposed to be delivered on 11th but got delivered today. Here's what happened and how you can avoid it.

Day 1 : The delivery guy comes at around 6pm, proceeds to cut the box but then realises that this is an exchange laptop order, looks at me and says, I don't do exchange orders. Tells me some other guy will come Tommorow and that he will give laptop.

Day 2 : I call the guy, he says he'll come but ends not coming, says he'll come tomorrow.

Day 3 : the delivery guy comes at around 6pm. With the laptop, with exchange, but my father says to give for exchange(In checkout page it says discount is 40k and exchange is 3.9k, so he says if we pay 3.9k we can keep the old laptop.) the delivery guy processes everything and turns out we have to pay 34.9k(the total amount), dad says ok take old laptop. The delivery guy says now it cannot happen again Tommorow it will reset

Day 4 : This time we go the warehouse, the guy opens the laptop and says to run a link and download a tool, and guess what, because i backed up the data, i reset the laptop hence the windows is not on the laptop. The delivery guy says he need that software.

And finally on day 5 all stars align and i get the laptop after paying an additional 1.9k due to the laptop not being in that good of a condition.

But I am happy, cause my father bought the old laptop in 2023 second hand for 22k and now i exchanged it for 32k.

TIPS:

  1. If you can, go to the warehouse the day laptop arrives to your area.

  2. If exchange, back up the laptop and reset it and install windows again.

  3. Though the checkout page says exchange discount is 4k you will have to pay everything.

  4. If exchange, call the delivery guy the moment he is assigned and say it's a exchange order so be the right person to verify.

I added a no-signup demo to my developer portfolio builder after Reddit told me they wouldn't connect GitHub just to try it

https://reddit.com/link/1uksmyt/video/87lgqtb3onah1/player

A few weeks ago I shared Portlio here and got some brutally honest feedback.

The biggest criticism was that people didn't want to connect their GitHub account just to understand what the product actually does.

So I went back and rebuilt a good portion of it.

The biggest addition is Demo Mode.

Now you can explore the entire portfolio builder, switch between templates, customize sections, and see how everything works without signing in or connecting GitHub.

I also redesigned the landing page based on feedback:

  • Better explanation of the problem
  • Real portfolio examples
  • Clearer GitHub privacy information
  • More customization options
  • Improved onboarding

I'd really appreciate another round of feedback.

  • Does the demo make the product easier to understand?
  • At what point would you decide to sign up (or not)?
  • What still feels missing?

Website: https://theportlio.com

Thanks to everyone who gave feedback the first time, it genuinely helped shape this update.

Stopped reading DEAD Tube further

First of all, I like reading gore and non conventional stories.

Dead tube started off great for me, the concept was unique and kinda was meta as well showing how social media can really fuck our minds mentally and physically if taken extremely.

But as the chapters progressed it just repetitive for me, like every arc is just the same, the characters are just one dimensional, and the story just doesn't go forward.

I read 75 chapters and stopped after feeling exhausted.

Is it just me or others think the same?

Gaming laptop advice

The budget is around 1.5 lakh. I initially thought of buying loq but now that costs higher and similar to legion or asus rog g series, so I don't know what to choose.

Legion gen 5

Asus rog g16

Loq gen10

And other brand would also help, i am not that keen on branding

I think buying the laptop in flipkart is better considering the exchange and credit card deals.

Do suggest a laptop, and the reason you think it's worth buying

General doubts about, whether they matter in a laptop

  1. Does 1tb storage matter, and worth the ~10k more than 512.

  2. Is there a difference in 5050 and 5060, which justifies the price difference

  3. Is selecting a laptop with WQHD laptop better than FHD for 7k more.

  4. Which is better number to look at while buying a laptop TDP or TGP

  5. Do you consider buying a 4000 series laptop in this year is worth, for a student who does ml and gaming.

  6. Is a single stick of 16gb ram worse than 2 sticks of 8gb ram each with same configuration.

These things just confuse me while searching for gaming laptop, and changing these configuration hugely changes the final price especially in this current state of laptop pricing.

After getting tired of manually updating my portfolio every time I finished a project, I decided to build my own solution.

I made **Portlio**: [https://theportlio.com/\](https://theportlio.com/)

The idea is simple:

* Connect your GitHub

* Pick the repositories you want to showcase

* Add context about your projects

* Generate a portfolio website

* As your GitHub changes, your portfolio stays up to date automatically

One piece of feedback I received early was that portfolios generated from GitHub can feel generic, so I've been redesigning the product to focus more on storytelling, customization, and showing *why* a project was built instead of just listing repositories.

Some features:

* Automatic GitHub sync

* Multiple portfolio templates

* Custom project descriptions and context

* GitHub Pages deployment

* Privacy controls (you choose which repositories appear)

I'm still actively developing it, so I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback on the idea, the design, or features you'd want to see.

Constructive criticism is welcome.

Laptop recommendation under 1.5L

Thought of initially buying a lenovo loq with 5050 and 32gb and 1 tb. When i saw it with student discounts it was around 1.3-1.4L but now it got increased.

I need it for next 5-6 years, for gaming, editing, Model training.

Currently i use a hp probook 440 which has 8 gb ddr4 ram with 256 gb storage and 1 tb hhd. (Bought it second hand for 22k)

I am a student so probably i can apply for the sheer Id

Would you use a portfolio that updates itself from your GitHub?

I'm a CS student and noticed that my portfolio was almost always out of date.

I'd finish projects, push code to GitHub, earn certificates, and learn new technologies, but I rarely remembered to update my portfolio website. By the time internship applications came around, my portfolio no longer reflected what I had actually been working on.

Because of that, I built Portlio.

It generates a developer portfolio from your GitHub profile and helps keep it updated automatically, so you spend less time maintaining a portfolio and more time building projects.

I'm looking for honest feedback from other students:

  • Do you currently have a portfolio?
  • How often do you update it?
  • Would automatic updates be useful?
  • What features would make a tool like this valuable for internship or job applications?

You can check it out here:

https://portlio-rho.vercel.app/

Any feedback, criticism, or feature suggestions would be helpful.

I built Portlio to automatically keep developer portfolios updated

Hi everyone,

I'm a BTech student and recently built Portlio, a tool that generates and updates developer portfolios automatically.

The idea came from the fact that I rarely updated my portfolio after finishing projects, or making changes on GitHub.

I'd love some honest feedback on:

  • The overall concept
  • The UI/UX
  • Whether the generated portfolios look professional
  • Features you'd expect before using something like this
  • Anything that feels confusing or unnecessary

The site is:

Looking for beta users for Portlio, an automated portfolio builder.

How often do you actually update your portfolio website?

I realized mine was always months out of date because I kept forgetting to update projects, and GitHub activity.

That's what led me to build Portlio, a tool that generates and updates a portfolio automatically.

I'm curious whether others have the same problem or if I'm solving something nobody really cares about.

For those with portfolios:

  • How often do you update them?
  • What's the most annoying part?
  • Would automatic updates be useful or do you prefer manual control?

I'd appreciate any thoughts.
