I just wanted to get on here to talk about something that’s on my mind. I have two cats, and my mom hates them, she says they’re unclean and dirty and she always threatens to get rid of them even though I take care of them all the time and clean up after them.
However, we’ve recently had an ant infestation. I’m not kidding, in the kitchen they’re everywhere, I’m sitting trying to do homework and they’re crawling on me. I’m sleeping and wake up to them. I’ve tried speaking with her several times about this and she said we shouldn’t kill them or do anything with them because they always say “subhanallah” and because of that story with Prophet Soleiman when the ants stopped him.
Every time I kill one, she gets really mad at me and I don’t know what to do. Our house is infested, how do I talk to her to get rid of them?? I don’t know what to do
I’m just confused why she wants to get rid of my cats when she loves these ants
hi, I wasn’t really sure which sub to post this in but I’m honestly really struggling and looking for guidance.
I’m 18f, grew up in a Muslim leaning household (my dad was born Muslim, doesn’t really practice, but my mom is extremely religious). My parents got divorced because my mother cheated on my father (ironic because she’s extremely religious…). I was taught to only believe what I was told and if I ever asked any questions, even just to learn or because I was curious my mother would shut me down and call me a Kafir.
I genuinely believe my mother is insane. For context she is an extreme Shia and has taken me to those parades during ashoura where I have seen people take swords and cut the back of their heads, and she has also mentioned she would sacrifice all her children if it met Hassan Nasrallah would be brought back to life. She also often says things like “May god never forgive you” and once that a person who doesn’t pray will be punished in hellfire more than a rapist which i don’t think makes any sense. She is also physically abusive and used to hit me with knives when I was little, causing me to get stitches.
When my mom cheated on my dad, I knew it was happening and this guy (we’ll call him x), X used to always pull my hair and be weird and try putting his hands on my waist a lot, when I told my mom she said he was just joking.
My brothers are also inherently misogynistic, they often call me a slut or a bitch despite never even having a boyfriend or doing anything intimate at all. Because of this, my mom threatens to check my phone often to see if I’m “talking to any boys” which really sucks because my brothers can do anything. my brother (20) has already had premarital sex with someone four years younger than him, cheated on his last girlfriend and talks to multiple women at once.
My dad isn’t even religious but when he thinks I’m talking to guys he always says something like “We are Muslim. We don’t do that.”

I’m relatively smart, graduated a year early from high school and was able to get into universities out of state but my parents keep trying to bring me back into the house and keep telling me I’m going to get no where with the major that I’m studying in.
I feel really alone, my brothers always “tell on me” if I’m doing something or “report back” to my parents. Once I hung out with a a friend who was a girl and found out my brother was following me and taking photos just to make sure it was a girl and not a man.
Even if I try to learn more about Islam on my own, I just don’t feel a connection anymore but I don’t know how to leave my family, I don’t have enough money yet or enough to afford myself on my own.
