i only play with mob hostility on when in servers with my friends. when i do im always on Pit Duty, digging trenches to trap bears and wolves in. when i play single player tho…. its almost exclusively with Never Hostile toggled. it’s a holdover from my lifelong habit of having always played That Other Block Game in peaceful mode. however, as a nerf to myself—i always increase my hunger, lower my walk speed, and decrease my tool durability. i also wait to fish until i have at least 1 ceramic pot and bowl.

as of late, however, ive been tempted to play with soil instability and cave ins. ive been playing on a tfc world with a close friend for about a year now, and its been great—but its just too “fast” for me. everything takes fractions of the time it takes in vintage. anyways, to anyone who’s read thus far: do yall have any recommendations or tips for players getting into learning those world functions for the first time?

NOT EXTENSIVE RESEARCH, i don’t want them to watch the show at all bc its funny!! i just wish they had a list of definitions and maybe the main character’s basic character traits for context (so they’re able to actually understand why say, cutting off the image on someone’s flank is genuinely horrifying to the little weird horse for even more complex psychological reasons than normal. it’s a loss of identity lol.) not to mention the canon door that traps ponies in nightmares until they starve to death.

recommendations for this (in order of most to least recommended) would be The Cough, Rainbow Factory (would need an explanation on cutie marks/special talents), Let Me Tell You About The Hole In My Face, Apple Sleep Experiment (only the original for obvious reasons), The Candy Mare, and maybe a reaction to the Smile music vid. yall know the one. ik some of these are a tad long but if we can spare 4 hours for Happle Apple i feel like giving some undersold horror 2-3 is fair.

i’m personally in the boat that Longtail more than deserved the position. it would’ve been a satisfying end to his character arc, to have gone from being so xenophobic he genuinely fought a 6-7 moon old cat to being said kittypet’s second in command.

especially when opposed to the canon position, Greystripe, who barely trained his apprentice, barely fought to keep his kits in his home clan when they couldve definitely won the battle for them to stay, barely fought to prove his loyalty to Thunderclan upon returning again, and was given the second best rank in the entire clan. Longtail was a diligent mentor, he was given a scot-free opportunity to leave with Tigerclaw and denied it, never had a half clan relationship that he allowed to eat up his mentor and warrior duty time, and was… blinded by the Erins. he was so full of potential they had to draw the sun down to him to melt his wings lol

another great one, when he was choosing who to succeed Greystripe, is Brackenfur. he was basically one of Firestar’s first apprentices, non-formally anyway. or Spiderleg, purely for the idea of a Spiderstar lol

(spoilers for series 2 stuff)

and it’s where the vast majority of his side of the drama stems from in the second series. his main motivation (especially during the latter half of the series) was seeking kinship in his blood relatives. he was apparently so desperate for connection he was willing to meet with the cat all 4 clans were still healing from, who he himself had been tryinf to distance himself from earlier on in the series! yet he couldn’t just… go to shadowclan right next door and visit tawnypelt for a short spell? or go to riverclan to meet and actually interact with mothwing?? he learns he has half siblings on his father’s side but never once stops to think about siblings he could have on his mother’s, which… he doesnt even think about goldenflower very much, if at all.

it just seems to be a consistent pattern in the second series for him to ignore his mother and sisters, as well as tawnypelt’s rather obvious sign that what he’s doing (training in the dark forest) is not right, while actively ignoring the waving red flags his ONE brother keeps giving off. and he’s willing to go against his own moral connundrum of not wanting to be associated with tigerstar for the sake of “having kin” when his own mother lives in camp with him.

it even leads to squilf dumping him before they can officially become mates, because he’s so unwilling to see hawkfrost as a threat despite the fact he knows about his dark forest allegiance and his relationship with their well established to be evil father. and even if he didnt have that to go off of hawkfrost is CONSISTENTLY making attempts on his deputies reputations and safety in an effort to gain any sort of political power he can, very flagrantly might i add! brambleclaw has heard evidence from both squilf AND her medicine cat sister (someone the clan cats are supposed to be able to trust since theyre basically priests???) that hawkfrost is overly ambitious, and he immediately deflects squilf’s concerns by accusing her, a half-kittypet who got shit over having her father’s “soft” blood, of being a bigot towards him?? for being tigerstars son?? the same tigerstar hes CHOOSING TO MEET WITH because he didnt even have a single thought about seeking kinship in either of his sisters, or his mother.

tldr: brambleclaw consistently lacks regard for all of his relationships with his female kin, despite having an urge to seek kinship so strongly he was willing to meet his evil brother in hell to train under the most infamous and dangerous cat in recent history—their father. if he was written to think more about his sisters or his mother, most of his traumatic scenes wouldnt have occurred, making it sadly necessary for him to not give a single iota of thought toward them for the plot to progress.
tldr for the tldr: the erins shouldve had a lore bible. this all stems from them lol.

also this is not meant to be overly serious, im a 22 year old chud writing this in my bathroom

and it’s very obviously pointed out thru the dialogue as well

im referring to the scene in which twilight is entrapped in the chamber beneath sombra’s throne by the moving door’s nightmare spell. already this scene implies something, that sombra deliberately created a magical device that could completely mentally ensnare someone to the point they become unaware of external stimulus. spike had to come down those stairs and physically interrupt the spell for it to be broken, he even tells twilight he only braved the dark staircase because he got worried she was hurt when she stopped responding to him. which implies that without that external push, a pony would likely be stuck there for an indeterminate amount of time. possibly until their body gave out.

given how it would be sort of giving up face to have an open gallows right next to your throne, it was used by sombra for two purposes. obviously to trap anyone attempting to obtain the crystal heart, that’s the primary purpose of it that’s stated by twilight within the show. but it could have absolutely been used to also eliminate political dissenters, uprisers, and other threats to his rule.

this is where i get into the meat and potatoes of this: without spike, twilight would have run out of time to save the empire. sombra would have broken in, and taken back his place at the helm. and she would have remained there beneath his throne when he returned to it, left to rot beneath his hooves. which is insane lol, and obviously too dark to be outright stated within this TV Y-7 show.
