Time for some hope
Finally got my Rocky, shortly after getting my Rise. It was the opportunity of a lifetime to stream the Artemis II launch and get my first theater watch of Project Hail Mary (no trailers or spoilers beforehand) in the same night. I love all things space and sci-fi, but more importantly. It's so amazing to see humanity is still capable of making good stories and reaching for the stars. I'm grateful to all the people at NASA and on the PHM movie crew for doing these amazing things and giving us people on Earth a little bit of hope and some greatness to aspire to. Moon joy, Amaze amaze amaze.
Hail Mary Lego set is amaze, amaze, amaze
I've lost count of how many times I've watched the movie, but at least 3 were during my build of the Lego set (I work really slow and usually started the movie with my dinner).
There's nowhere to keep LEGO Grace's hair so Rocky has to hold it 😂
New Tradition
The first time I watched Project Hail Mary was the night Artemis ii lifted off, and the Artemis iii crew was revealed today. From now on, every time a rocket is launched to the moon, I will watch the movie again that night.
I look forward to the day in the distant future that humanity makes multiple daily trips to the moon every day.
Amaze amaze, moon joy 🚀👎🏾
Rocky and Ducky
Anyone old enough to remember The Land Before Time? Rocky's speech pattern of repeating something 3 times always reminds me of Ducky speaking the same way (like when she says Yep, Yep, Yep). Today would have been the 47th birthday of Judith Barsi, Ducky's voice actor. She would have loved how Rocky speaks just like Ducky. May she rest in peace.
In the Audiobook, every time Grace mentions his cut physique, this is all I could think about
Ryland Grace is a Punk Leaky Space Blob!
Another Thing the Movie Gets Right (at least, for me)
I'm rewatching some old Star Trek and it got me thinking. One thing that a lot of newer sci-fi, such as the JJ Star Trek movies and current Trek TV shows never got right was the same reason I love all the original and TNG Star Trek: the ship is treated like a character. All the new stuff wants the action and spectacle, but think back to the Engineers like Scotty, Miles O'Brien, and Trip Tucker from the old shows. They treat their Enterprises like a member of the crew. In Star Trek 1, Scotty and Kirk gaze upon the Enterprise like it's a woman they love just to show how significant it is for the Enterprise's first film appearance.
This is also another small addition I like so much in the movie. The Hail Mary (or just Mary as Grace says) is personified with a voice and has this almost comedic sidekick dynamic with Grace most of the time (think Navi from Legend of Zelda). She tries to offer suggestions for Grace's situations (which aggravate him at first), she helps him with the mission, even Rocky is shown to be talking with her and she responds. Giving the ship its own role in a show or movie is something I've really missed and it's another reason the movie is so great 👎🏾.
Me-burgers.. Tau-me-ba burgers?
Haven't cooked fritters/patties in a while, these have diced broccoli and cauliflower in ground turkey and beef. I thought it resembled what Taumeoba and me-burgers might look like if they were combined into some kind of patty 😂.
Unlike Grace, I have spices and seasoning, and they taste pretty good.
Could it be possible I like having this movie playing too much?
Needed some ambiance, played Project Hail Mary while I fix my Hail Mary (technically her name is Teresa 😏)
Edit: only disassembling a non-essential system in the rear, do not invite distraction when you have to concentrate.
Buying Project Hail Mary on streaming be like...
Someone built this remarkable stone balancing structure.
After a long cold winter, I wanted to address the rear anti roll bar mounts to get my Whiteline bar onto my 07 Impreza (already did one in the front). I had tried once before and despite the necessary prep, I broke one captive nut on the passenger side. I love this car but I don't want to spend a ton to hire a welder for just one small part (will have to rebuild the rear frame rails eventually if some rust manages to spread there). I explored alternatives and managed to get a rivet nut snuggly fit so I could so that I could install the mount, then the bar. I'll inspect periodically but the repair held up great and the car is much better on corners and turns. Really happy I can keep this car on the road, some money stays in my pocket, and I've finished a nice upgrade in time for the spring and summer.
