Shooting after ulnar nerve surgery?

TL;DR I had surgery to move my ulnar nerve (funny bone nerve) because of a car accident. It can cause pain in the wrist and numbness/pain in the forearm and numbness in ring/pinky finger. (FYI YES I am going to follow up with my surgeon)

Before my post I wanted to explain why I need a firearm to defend myself: I am physically disabled and options like martial arts, knives, etc aren’t feasible.

Due to the meth epidemic in my area, people can simply charge at you and even the expensive tasers wouldn’t take them down.

Any marksmen/markswomen able to shoot post-op from an intramuscular ulnar nerve transposition surgery? I’d be interested in hearing from you especially.

Recovery instructions initially said no use of lawn mower and heavy machinery like a jackhammer. It didn’t indicate that it would be an issue after I recovered.

I stupidly purchased a gun a few weeks ago before thinking about how this would affect my wrist especially.

Maybe I’m overthinking it. I’m not feeling safe lately and I want to have the opportunity to protect myself. I have the ability to conceal carry in my state. I was also looking forward to shooting at the range.

Gun enthusiasts- did you have to stop shooting after your surgeries?

Sitters - basic cleaning checklist when sit ends?

TL;DR Sorry if this is repetitive, in general what's on your cleaning checklist before you depart? And when do you do each task?

Hi, I thought we could get a general checklist going that sitters can use as a sample for what to do for cleaning before you leave.

Obviously communication needs to happen around this, the expectations.

For example, if I was an HO I'd love to come home to a freshly made bed. Sometimes my paid clients just tell me to leave it.

What I have done so far:

Vacuum, sweep, wet swiffer/mop if floors got significantly dirty, windex mirrors, wipe down surfaces, sanitize as much as possible, clean toilets, and unless I've dirtied the tub beyond what it looked like when the sit started... I don't get down on my knees and scrub tubs. Wash towels, sheets, and any other bedding that is dirty. Clean pet food and water bowls with warm soapy water.

Am I doing too much? Not enough?

I bought my first firearm for self-defense and I don’t know how or when to tell my loved ones

TL;DR I (39F) moved FROM an east coast state with very strict gun laws TO a west coast state with lax gun laws and a very different culture. I don’t have children in my house, I practice gun safety laws and use COMMON SENSE. ….. How and when would you tell people that need to know? ….. And how would you respond if they have a really bad negative interaction?

I (39F) purchased a handgun 100% legally this week for personal protection. There’s a few things to consider in my predicament.

I’m autistic and don’t really know the appropriate way or appropriate time to tell people. Especially when I’m carrying in their presence. I’m getting my concealed carry license within the end of the month.

I’ll be carrying depending on the situation and where I’m going. But at what point do I even need to tell people? You might be wondering why I care so much about what people think.

90% of my family and friends (minus my Aunt who is a retired Sheriff Deputy) are anti-gun and have preconceived notions that they are unnecessary and too dangerous. Especially after the injustices surrounding death caused by law enforcement.

They don’t understand that I can’t physically defend myself in other ways due to physical limitations. Other methods of self defense aren’t feasible.

There are things they don’t know about me:

  1. My boyfriend and I were nearly killed in a triple rollover crash caused by a driver high on meth. She had an illegal concealed handgun and the interaction could’ve gone a lot worse.

  2. A year later, I was falsely imprisoned and assaulted in another state. I still can’t have my back turned looking in my car without flashbacks.

  3. I do not feel safe in the city that I live in any longer. None of my family in particular have ever lived in an area with this amount of criminal activity. They always have had money and the privilege of living in safer areas.

What they also don’t realize:

There is increased drug activity (meth) in my neighborhood - within about 8 square blocks there are transients and people under the influence of drugs who have walk right into the middle of the street (Speed limit is 30-35 MPH). It’s happened to me at least 10 times since I moved here 2 years ago.

Where I grew up it was prohibited to purchase firearms in most instances - depending on the county. Circumstances have changed dramatically since I moved from the east coast. I don’t want the backlash from my family or friends.

How and when would you tell people that need to know? And how would you respond if they have a really bad negative interaction?

Sensory-friendly gyms?

TL;DR I am just starting to work out again after recovering from some health challenges. I’m autistic and have less tolerance to stimuli like noise and lighting. I’m willing to travel about 15 minutes tops each way.

As the title states, I’m looking for a sensory friendly gym that is overall quieter and less of an echoing noise (which Planet Fitness usually has).

You might be thinking to yourself,

“Why don’t you just blast your own music?”

“Why don’t you use earplugs?”

These options help *somewhat* but there’s more to it than that. It’s like blending together a mixture of hell.

The noises that are triggering:

TVs blasting. But sometimes they’ll stick with just subtitles which is a blessing! 🙏🏻

Music blasting so loud I can hear it with my volume on my headphones at full blast.

I don’t necessarily want to listen to my own music nor give myself a headache so 🤷🏻‍♀️

I know this is always a thing with gyms but the combination of all the things piled up on each other triggers a meltdown 😭😭😭😭

One of the benefits of having my health insurance is that most gyms are completely covered.

The upscale ones I get a discount. I’d rather pay a little to be able to get access to a sensory-friendly environment.

Thank you for any recommendations!!!

Suggest me an audiobook of a new release (within 1 year) that has a good narrator?

Hi,

I tend towards dark themes but I’m looking for a lighter book. I’m almost ending my Audible subscription and I want to get a book that’s likely checked out at my library.

I tend not to like fantasy or outright romance. I can do some sci fi.

I wanna make the best of my last few credits before they cut me off 😭

Dry cleaning recommendations for silk scarf?

I have a very sentimental silk scarf (my mother bought it for me 23 years ago in the Netherlands)

I recently found it in my garage in a storage bin. It has a really strong odor and I’d prefer dry cleaning instead of hand washing.

Since it’s so sentimental I’d like any recommendations for a dry cleaner that won’t ruin my scarf and can effectively get the odor out.

Thank you in advance!!

Social Group for Neurodivergent Adults

Hi!!!
I’m the admin of the Southern Oregon Neurodivergent Social Group (primarily a discord group, but those who don’t have one I can DM you with info) I’m amping up and sending out a blast for our discord server!!!

- I will post links to join the server. If any of them are “dead links” please lmk and I will send you a new one. -

The purpose of this social group is to create a safe space for neurodivergent folks of the valley. A group where you don’t have to mask, simply be yourself and know that we’re all here to support each other.

It can be extremely difficult to make friends as an adult in general. Being neurodiverse makes it even harder. Our goal is to make everyone feel welcome, safe, and comfortable.

As the only admin I can only be at one place at a time, although I’d love to make it to all of our events!

I’m looking for anyone interested in hosting: showing up to an event and representing the group. We have new events popping up multiple times a week!

We have a weekly movie night on Fridays, a variety of activities that are free or $ on Saturdays, AND a round table to be involved with planning, brainstorming, or socializing/bringing a craft.

My vision (would also love your feedback and ideas!!!) is this:

Part of my role would be something like a “friendship facilitator”, someone to ease introductions. I’m an extrovert and feel comfortable initiating conversations.

Free/inexpensive activities- Cafes, open mic, walks at a park, nature journaling, Zoom calls, body doubling at the library, silent socials, photography walks, etc.

Activities that cost money - bowling, movies, lunch, day trips, events like comedy nights, concerts, etc.

I don’t discriminate against anyone who isn’t officially diagnosed with any condition related to being neurodiverse. It is meant to be for anyone who identifies as neurodivergent.

I hope you consider joining us, and I look forward to seeing members at our upcoming events!!!

If you’re not comfortable commenting, please feel free to DM me and I’ll chat with you soon!

P.S. Thank you to one of our members who has been collaborating with me to make the discord group’s icon 🙏🏻

TL;DR Is there any benefit of having a closer relationship like your parents take DNA tests in addition to a relationship like an aunt/uncle?

If I already have DNA from both sides of my family on ancestry DNA, what benefit, if any, would I get from having my parents sending in their DNA, too?

I bought the kits and my father has already agreed to do it.

I haven’t asked my mom yet because she’s a bit paranoid (I get it, she’s had her identity stolen 2+ times)

I figured if I had some additional information gained in this sub to share with her to reassure her that it is safe.

I don’t know if I’m making sense but I’m looking for any and all suggestions and ideas to learn from the best 🙏🏻
