Guess what?! No sign of workers on 417 closure at Woodroofe for LRT sign install

Again today... traffic chaos, and two lanes closed westbound. One due to OPP stopped in the right lane instead of the shoulder to give out a ticket.

Eastbound backed up past Bayshore.

No sign of any work progress for LRT signage in the median. No construction workers anywhere in sight.

Buying experience in Ontario, Canada

I recently went through the process of purchasing a new RAV4 Limited here in Canada. The last time I bought a vehicle was back in 2014, and I was surprised by how much the dealership experience has shifted since then. I wanted to share a few factual observations for anyone else currently in the market or waiting on an order.

The Sales Process and Pricing

  • Streamlined Interactions: Unlike my experience in 2014, there was no "good cop/bad cop" routine involving back-and-forth negotiations with a sales manager. I dealt entirely and exclusively with my sales agent, which made the process much more straightforward.
  • No Base Price Negotiation: Because of current regulations in Canada, dealers must sell new vehicles at or below MSRP. However, due to the incredibly high demand for the RAV4, there is absolutely zero room for negotiation on the base price. You will be paying MSRP.

Insurance, Anti-Theft, and Add-ons

  • Mandatory Tracking Systems: Because the RAV4 remains a high-theft target, insurance companies are tightening rules. My insurer required an aftermarket tracking system to maintain coverage. The dealership offered the TAG tracking system for roughly $500. Fortunately, the first-year insurance discount completely offsets the upfront cost of the system.
  • Extended Service/Warranty Push: The dealership strongly encouraged pre-purchasing the first three years of maintenance, which would extend the warranty to 80,000 km within those first three years. Because I am a low-mileage driver, this offered no practical benefit to me, so I declined.

Inventory and Accessories Update

  • Improving Stock: Over the past month, it looks like allocations are finally picking up. The dealership is noticeably receiving more units than they were earlier in the year.
  • PHEV/Prime Availability: While regular hybrid models are moving faster, Plug-in Hybrids (PHEVs) remain incredibly rare. My dealer just received their first PHEV in a very long time, and it was delivered to a customer who had been on the waitlist since 2024.
  • Accessory Backorders: If you are planning on getting an OEM tow hitch and wiring harness, be prepared to wait. I ordered both, but they are currently on backorder with no firm ETA.

Overall, while the lack of room to negotiate is a byproduct of the current market, the lack of traditional dealership games made for a relatively polite and transparent transaction. Hopefully, this breakdown is helpful to anyone looking to buy in the near future!

Site Manager shows no "ISP Viewer" data and no alerts

I have Internet alerts configured, always, for all admins. The site manager knows there was an outage. The alerts show no triggered alarms though. As far as I can tell everything is configured but I never get alerts for the outages. Other alarms are sent and received.

Lane closures, and accompanying traffic woes, on Hwy. 417 at Pinecrest due to LRT work: City

This is horse shit. 2.5 months to install a sign. It should be mandatory that the work continues 24/7 whenever a lane is closed and get it done as quickly as possible. A concept that is absolutely incomprehensible to construction companies, the City and the Province.

This is an update to the original recall in 2012

"On some vehicles, if the rear wheel alignment toe adjustment locking nuts are improperly tightened when an alignment is performed in the field, backlash may develop in the threaded portion of the suspension arm (shaft and turnbuckle), followed by the formation of rust. If this occurs, threads may wear, causing the arm to separate which could result in loss of vehicle control. Correction: Dealers will inspect the arms and verify the tightening torque of the lock nuts, or replace the arms, as necessary."

Model years affected: 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011

Does anyone know the correct fit kit for the Thule Evo Flush Rail system? Gemini thinks it may be kit 6026 but I have not been able to verify that.

Ordered a red 2026 Limited in March. I was told at the time to expect end of year and that I might end up with a 2027 model.

I got a call today that someone cancelled their order and I will get it end of May.

So one cancellation, for a specific colour, moves me up 6-8 months? Inventory must be really tight.
