Anyone with knee pain during bike or rower exercises?

I have a brand new budget rower and I love it. Thing is though, a few minutes in, I feel a dull soreness in one of my knees.

Does this go away if you exercise regularly? Or does it mean that a rower or an exercise bike might not be the most optimal equipment for me?

I’m bummed coz I enjoy it and it’s brand new.

Watched Supergirl 2026 with my teen daughter

I went for my daughter but ended up loving the movie myself (my kid loved it too).

The lead actress Milly Alcock is FAB!!! I hadn’t watched her in House of Dragons beyond an episode or two and loved her in that too and in this movie she absolutely shines. The 13 year old actress Eve Ridley is fab too.

I think maybe the movie could have been a bit shorter but I still don’t get the relatively low rating? Anyone here watched it? Did you like it?

ETA: Love all the different opinions here. For those that are going to watch, stick with it if the first half kinda drags a bit, as, imo, the second half has the payoff. Again, disclaimer- definitely good imo, but not great.

What are your awkward neighbour interactions?

Mine was today and it was me. Our neighbour has a football party for their friends and family at their place today and had invited us in passing (emphasis on in passing. They were mainly letting us know it might get noisy and told us the reason and then said we were welcome too. I said can’t but hope you have a lovely time). We’re all new to each other in the neighbourhood anyway so I didn’t want to impose.

Well today just before their party I had the bright idea to take some frozen food for them as in my experience with large groups, food gets used up fast and more is always welcome.

Only when I went to give it, my south Asian socially awkward arse led the conversation with ‘sorry I can’t come’ as if the food was in lieu of my great presence. I cringed immediately and left post haste leaving 2-3 people quite bemused in my wake.

Back home now and telling myself things get awkward sometimes but hey the effort counts and that’s all they’ll remember. Hopefully.

But also, a few stories of commiseration would be very welcome lol.

I wish there were more shows with seniors / elderly characters, with older actors and actresses

I'm currently enjoying 'The Burroughs'. It isn't perfect, but I found it charming. Importantly, as a middle-aged person, I've found I like shows that actively tackle and talk about the aging process and what to expect.

I've enjoyed 'Grace and Frankie' for a similar reason (though it dragged towards the end), and found 'The thursday murders club series' a little too slow but the cast and the premise very engaging.

Female-centric action movies

I enjoyed watching Apex (Charlize theron) and atlas (Jennifer Lopez) recently. I especially enjoy movies where the central character is a physically strong and agile woman (like in Apex).

Would love recommendations. Thanks.

Making a garden liveable in hotter and colder months

If you use your garden not just in spring or when the weather’s milder, what have you done to make it so? Do you have a summerhouse or pergola? Do you use heaters / coolers etc? What tips would you give to anyone wishing to use the garden for spending time in beyond spring and early summer? Thanks.

Which tree, evergreen or deciduous, has the prettiest foliage according to you? Not counting flowers of course, just foliage?

I love the colours of the Japanese maple, myself. Also the eucalyptus tree. Also, I know box isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I like it.

I feel like Ask for Andrea by Noelle Ihli should be required reading for all our young women

I began reading Ask for Andrea a few months ago and stopped. It didn’t pull me in immediately.

Gave it a go again this week and loved it and I’m just sitting with my thoughts.

I sorta feel like it should be required reading for every young woman. Coz it shows again and again on how easy it is to ignore the red flags and then have to pay a very ehavy price for being too trusting or too nice or uncomfortable to say no.

It’s not exactly an easy breezy read because of how dark the subject matter is, but also it sorta is? Because the author doesn’t dwell too long on the horror and yet somehow the horror of the situation is still all pervasive and you feel compelled to read hoping the three heroines will get their revenge.

It’s not exactly a thriller as you already know from page 1 who the culprit is but the tension builds up anyway as the story moves forward. It has its flaws (not too 'thrilly') but it's still 5 stars for me.

Inexpensive way of levelling a garden slope

I don't have the budget for custom raised beds for the downward slope at the end of my garden. This slope is right now a wasted space. I was thinking of levelling it with gravel.

I was thinking of using gravel grass grids and gravel to level out this slope so that space can finally be used. It's not too steep, so I think its doable. Is it a terrible idea?

Edit: the other option in my mind is to have a long raised bed and dig up dirt from the higher end of the slope so the raised bed at least is level (but the rest of the slope is not).

How does one go about meeting other small, home gardeners locally if one doesn’t have social media like Facebook or x? I’m a beginner gardener and am looking to meet others to keep the inspiration going. Thanks x
