do the co-ops rlly help?

im a junior in high school in the boston suburbs, thinking about applying to NEU. the thing is i wanna major in cs/ee and ik the job market is cooked rn, but going to a t20 helps you land big tech roles from what i've heard. but recently, one of my family friends graduated from neu and landed a swe full time job at a HUGE big tech company (lowk my dream job bro).

so tldr, do the co-ops rlly help that much, specifically for computer science? if i came to NEU as a cs major, what would my odds be of finding an internship/job at neu? how much of a boost does the co-ops give?

teenager here- how much would parents be willing to pay for piano lessons?

Hi! I wanted to get a parent’s point of view. I’m 17 and have been playing the piano for 11 years. I pay about 50$/hour for my lessons, but I have a very experienced and old teacher.

I want to put my skills to use and make some money to save up for college (also, I love working with kids). I feel like charging 50$/hour is way too much, especially since I’m just a teenager, and also because basic level piano is really easy honestly. If I start teaching advanced piano and preparing students for competitions, then it would probably be worth a 50-75$ an hour price, but basic piano is very simple, so I feel like I should charge less.

I’m thinking to start with 15$/hour (minimum wage) for the first 6 months of lessons, and then bump it up to 20$/hour if the parents like my teaching and want to continue. I’m not sure if parents would be willing to pay tons of money to a teenager for piano lessons, so I think I should keep prices low instead if the average piano lessons cost (which is around 40-80$/hour right?). And thinking long term, maybe after a year of lessons, 30$/hour would make sense (this is just me planning way ahead for the future though).

As a parent, what price range would you be comfortable paying a teenager to teach the basics of piano?

If I start teaching advanced students and prepare them for competitions, then I’ll probably charge more, since competition prep is a lot of work and requires skill. does the ACT test difficulty fluctuate like the SAT does?

im just starting to prep for the exam but im still tryna decide whether i should do the SAT or ACT. I know that the SAT difficulty often fluctuates (like the rumors are that collegeboard makes the SAT way harder in august/october/november and stuff like that) and i was wondering if its the same deal with the ACT? or does the difficulty stay around the same for every testing date? would the ACT be potentially harder in the fall months as well? the reason im asking is because im a junior and rlly wanna knock this out on the september date. im also just starting this process tho, so maybe its a dumb question lol but i appreciate any advice, tysm

honors linear alg or AP business principles?

AP business principles is a free gpa boost in my school. but my high school isn't giving AP weightage on the gpa for linear algebra unfortunately, so it'll only have the weightage of an honors class (4.5).

will colleges view linear algebra as an AP level rigor course? or should I take AP business so i can maximize my weighted gpa? i want to go into CS tho, so ik that taking high level math courses is important. should I take linear alg to show colleges rigor in math, or take the gpa boost with business principles? im a rising senior btw, tysm for any help

i've seen many ppl (irl and thru reddit) get into Uchicago thru ED1, and a few thru ED2 I think, but i remember scrolling thru the results sub for it and almost everyone who did EA got deferred (and RD rounds for uchicago is hunger games so id rather not get deferred😭). is there anyone in the sub or does anyone know someone who got Uchicago EA? I feel like uchicago just defers everyone EA so doing EA doesnt help, but maybe im wrong? Ive seen online that doing uchicago ED gives like a huge boost ive heard that they have a 30-40% acceptance rate ED (not sure if its true). but yeah if anyone has insight on this stuff would appreciate it. im a junior starting to think abt where i wanna ED and uchicago would be fire but not 100% sure yk

remembering this from last year because i was panicking sm lmao, wanted to share my experience

i was in one of the most competitive individual roleplays and in both roleplays, i yapped a bit too long and didnt get to questions. i wrapped up and had a solid conclusion but no time for questions. i remember coming out of there crying that my shot at finalist was gone.

in the first roleplay, my judge marked it as "meets expections" and in the second roleplay (actually in this rp i think i managed to get thru one question) my judge marked it as "exceeds expectations"

the guidelines for scoring (ONLY ON ROLEPLAY RUBRICS BTW) are confusing sometimes tbh, i thought i wouldve automatically gotten a zero or "below expectations" because we never got to the questions (this happened to my friend).

so if ur in roleplays and u miss questions cuz u ran out of time, u still have a shot. it fully depends on how the judge decides to mark it. I actually ended up getting top roleplay score and finaling (despite not answering questions). ur judge might just decide to give u a full score on that section because whatever, or they might mark it as meets expectations, or they might give you a zero.

disclaimer, this is ONLY for the roleplay rubrics. ik that written rubrics are very different, and honestly, if ur in a written, theres rlly no excuse to be short on time, you shouldve practiced and timed urself beforehand. even for the roleplays theres not much of an excuse, you shouldve put in the effort to be well rehearsed enough in timing to get an idea of when to wrap up (i recommend 8mins 30 sec ish), but ofc, sometimes we go overtime like i did last year. but u should have practiced enough for this not to happen lmao.

i think rps are over by now but i just wanted to share my experience for any roleplayers out there who didnt get to questions. i know a couple people stressing about this lmao.

good luck to everyone, WE are finaling tmrw
