How to split costs equitably in a relationship with an income disparity?

Hey! Hopefully I can post this here.

My girlfriend (29F) and I (29M) want to get serious about our finances. We have been dating for a few years and are trying to prepare for the future.

I make 60k a year, and she makes 130k. We are thinking of splitting expenses equitably (she contributes twice the amount I do).

We are trying to figure out what to do with my car. I drive us everywhere, as I prefer driving and she does not. To be clear, she prefers that I drive us everywhere. Her car also does not have AC. I have an older car, a 2013 Honda CRV.

I have driven us on a couple roadtrips (probably totalling about 2000 miles) in the past year and a half or so. I also drive us to many errands and events. We live in Central Jersey, so we are often driving to Philly and NYC.

So what do we do? We are planning on starting a joint saving account to cover costs of dates, errands, car stuff. Does she pay for my gas? Oil changes? Tires? For example, my car recently needed all four tires and an alignment. I haven't replaced them since we started dating a couple years ago. It was about ~800 bucks. Should she pay for any of that?

No judgment in any of these questions. We are just trying to figure out how to make it fair. Neither of us have strong opinions or resentments currently about money, other than the fact that we think both of our future financial situations could be improved by sharing the load of costs.

How to split expenses with a wealth gap? 29M, 29F

Hey! Hopefully this is the right sub to post this.

Unresponsive Admin

Hey everyone. I'm wondering how I should deal this upcoming year with an unresponsive admin team. I got hired at a small school for a high school ELA position recently. I asked for the curriculum last week on Thursday to prepare for the year, and she got back to me on Friday saying she would send it on Monday. Then, I sent a follow up email on Tuesday, which she didn't respond to. Of course she could be busy, but she said she was going to send it early this week. This is the second instance of admin not responding very quickly over email.

Would it be annoying if I tried calling her? Or sent another email? It might be like this all year, so I was hoping to get advice on what's normal to do about it. I am neurodivergent and emailing rules are often confusing to me.

Update post! 2 years on minox, nearly 4 years on T

Moustache and under the lip still a little sparse, but I've been feeling much better about my progress lately! Been getting positive feedback about my facial hair from friends, and although still looking a little "teenager," I feel like it's improved over the line of "neckbeard" into actual beard.

So grateful for HRT and oral minoxidil for the facial and body hair gains!

Looking for conversational videos

Hi everyone! So I started learning Mandarin Chinese about a month and a half ago, and I've been making a lot of progress! I finished Paul Noble's Learning Mandarin audiobook and began his next book. I also completed Yoyo Chinese's intro to pinyin course and also their beginner course on their website and Youtube.

I found their live Google Hangout videos, and I really love them! So helpful for learning, not only some language that sticks, but cultural stuff too. I watched them all and they really helped me.

Especially this video was great: https://www.youtube.com/live/H4hUe1ep7yo?is=-6jjJEYtryQ5726Z

I was wondering if you all know of any other other videos like this that are on Youtube. Mostly in English, some explanation of Chinese words and phrases. I would love if the videos were in podcast format because I listen to them at work and can't watch the video, I can only listen to the audio. Hopefully, there's some stuff like this somewhere. Thank you for reading!

Interview Tips

I am a ELA teacher in NJ who has been looking for a job this summer. So far, I've had 5 interviews with no second interview or offer. I think I need interview advice because I am worried about being unable to find a job for the next school year :(

I'll share some things I'm concerned about. I have my masters, I worked for 4 years at two different districts, and then I took time off. I did that because I'm transgender, and I needed to get surgery and change my name. I haven't worked in ed since the 2023-2024 school year. I am a man (you wouldn't know I was trans if I didn't disclose, but I have to because all my recent evals are with my old name and title), and I have a nose piercing.

I'm worried that those aspects of my life are at play in causing me to not get callbacks. My interviewing skills have been improving somewhat, but maybe you all can offer some advice for my specific situation. To be honest, I think I'm a great teacher, and my evals and references really reflect that-- they're glowing. But I'm really worried that I won't get a job, I wouldn't know what else to do!

6th grade ELA demo lesson advice?

I have a demo lesson for 6th grade ELA. It's going to be 20 minutes long, I will have access to a computer and projector, and they told me it should be reading focused.

I've only taught highschool ELA and 6th grade writing workshop before, so I've never taught reading to 6th graders.

Considering the short amount of time, I was thinking of analyzing figurative language in a poem. First thing that came to mind was analyzing repetition in Love That Dog by Sharon Creech. Would you say that's too easy for 6th grade?

Really, I'm taking any suggestions for poems or short stories that I could use to teach a skill (reading for theme, figurative language, making inferences, etc.) and also any advice for demo lessons because this is my first one ever!

Listening advice needed

I'm trying to maximize my efficiency for learning and studying. I have a job that has me do menial brainless tasks for 9 hours each day. I can whisper along to the videos to practice. Only stipulation is that I can't look at my phone. But I can listen to whatever I want. I am capable of following along to whatever I listen to. I've finished several books, listen to podcasts and video essays (all not in Chinese).

What can I use for listening to help me learn? I started learning Chinese last week. So far, I've been using the HelloChinese app, YoYo Chinese website, Chinesefor.Us videos for pronunciation practice. At home, I go through the HSK1 curriculum, take notes and try to learn characters.

Maybe there are some kids' podcasts or real beginner material I can use to help my comprehension and pronunciation?

Forgive me if this an easily searchable question, I swear I tried before making this post!
