6 months of progress on our Caucasus-inspired game so far

We’re two brothers from Chechnya, and we’ve always loved our culture and wanted to make a game inspired by it.

We’ve been working on this for around 6 months now, and this video is basically just a little show-off of the progress so far. It was really nice making it and looking back at how the game looked in the beginning compared to how it looks now.

There’s still a lot of work to do and much more to come, but seeing the progress like this feels really nice.

We’re making a Soulslike inspired by the cultures and aesthetics of the Caucasus

Hey everyone!
We’re two brothers working on Abrek, an indie Soulslike inspired by the cultures, architecture, clothing, weapons, and landscapes of the Caucasus.
Instead of medieval Europe or feudal Japan, we’re building a grounded dark fantasy world influenced by Caucasian mountain towers, traditional clothing like the chokha and papakha, ancient villages, and the rich diversity of the region. While the game is set in a fictional world, many of its visual elements are inspired by real Caucasian cultures.
Our goal isn’t historical accuracy, but to create a unique atmosphere that feels authentic while introducing more people to the beauty of the Caucasus.

Abrek - poster for our game Inspired by Caucasus

I'm making a game Inspired by Chechnyaband Caucasus, today I decided to make a poster image for it. What do you think of the name? And do you think the poster looks good?

Creating the first level for our game about Caucasus

Creating the first level for our game Inspired with Chechnya and Caucasian Region

It's still unfinished, we have lots of work ahead of us, mostly designing the town, create an authentic architecture, and add details

Chechen Acrhitectute

We’re working on old Chechen / Vainakh architecture for our game. It is inspired by the Caucasus, especially Chechen culture, history, mountain villages, towers, old settlements, and local legends. Right now we’re trying to recreate architecture from different historical periods, roughly from the 10th to 12th centuries and later, while still keeping it stylized for our low-poly PSX/PS2-inspired art direction.

We’re not trying to make a 100% museum-accurate reconstruction, but we do want the buildings, towers, stone walls, roofs, balconies, and village layouts to feel believable and respectful to the real architecture of the region. This is still early in development, so a lot of things are rough and will probably change. We’d really appreciate feedback, especially from people who know more about Chechen, Ingush, or broader Caucasus architecture and history.

Vainakh Watchtower

We made a Vainkah Watchtower for our game using blender, pretty simple, but still wanted to share. These towers are very popular in Chechnya and Ingushetia

Traditional design for a Caucasian character

Here’s the current main character design for "Obarg" , our indie grounded dark fantasy soulslike inspired by Chechnya and the Caucasus region.

The game is still early in development, but we’re trying to build a world with mountains, old villages, towers, harsh atmosphere, folk legends, and a low-poly PSX-style look. For the character, we wanted to use traditional clothing elements. What do you think? Does the design feel recognizable and memorable enough?
