I built a PvP boxing game designed for two-minute breaks, and it runs entirely in the browser

I've been building BrowserBoxing for a while and it's finally in a state I'm happy to share. It's a real-time PvP boxing game at browserboxing.com. No download, no install, no account needed. You open the link and get matched against another real player.

I made the rounds short on purpose. I wanted a game you can actually play properly in the gap between things, so a full match takes a couple of minutes. For quiet hours there's an AI opponent, plus a spectator lobby and a bounty system that puts a price on the heads of players riding long win streaks.

It's completely free. I'd love feedback on how it feels on your setup, especially the controls. And full disclosure on my skill level: my win rate against random players is embarrassing and I've stopped checking it. I made the game, so that stings a little.

I made a free browser boxing game with real PvP. The hardest part was making counters feel fair online

I made this: a browser boxing game (no download, no signup) with real-time PvP over websockets.

The challenge I'm still working through is counter timing. Landing a counter punch feels great locally, but when two players are 150ms apart, what felt fair in testing starts feeling random. I've been tuning server-authoritative hit resolution so the timing window stays tight without punishing anyone's ping.

Current progress: real PvP matchmaking works, there's a spectator lobby where you can watch live fights, and I put a 1,500 XP bounty on my own dev account so there's always someone worth hunting.

If anyone's built real-time multiplayer in the browser, I'd love to hear how you handled hit timing. Happy to share what's worked (and what hasn't) in the comments.

I made a free browser boxing game, and the lobby spectators roast harder than the fighters

I'm the solo dev behind BrowserBoxing (browserboxing.com). Free, no download, opens in a tab and you fight real people.

The part I didn't expect to love: you can watch strangers' fights live from the lobby. The chat during those fights has turned into its own sport. Last week a regular dropped me in round two and the lobby spent the next ten minutes inventing nicknames for me.

If you hop in, spectate a couple of rounds first, then queue up. And if you see me online, say hi in chat. I'll probably still lose.

Making Progress on My Browser-Based Multiplayer Boxing Game

Hey r/hobbygamedev,

I’m building Browser Boxing, a multiplayer boxing game that runs directly in the browser.

One of the biggest challenges has been making real-time multiplayer feel responsive while keeping the game easy to jump into. Since there’s no download, I want someone to be able to open the site and get into a fight quickly without dealing with a bunch of setup first.

A few things I’ve been working through lately:

  • Keeping multiplayer movement and punches feeling responsive
  • Handling player progression and rankings
  • Making guest play work well while still giving people a reason to create an account
  • Balancing simple controls with enough depth to make fights interesting
  • Improving the overall flow from opening the site to getting into a match

Right now, players can jump in without downloading anything or creating an account. If they do make an account, their progression is saved and they can work their way up the rankings toward becoming champion.

I’ve learned pretty quickly that multiplayer adds a lot of little problems that do not really show up when you are just testing things locally. Networking, timing, reconnecting, matchmaking flow, and keeping the experience smooth all become their own problems to solve.

It’s been fun slowly getting all of those pieces working together.

If anyone here is working on multiplayer games, I’d be interested to hear what parts ended up being harder than you expected.

You can check it out here if you want to see the current progress:

BrowserBoxing.com | Free real-time boxing. Fight for the championship or boo from the sidelines. No download required 🥊

Hey everyone, I made Browser Boxing. It's a free boxing game you can play in your browser against other people, friends, or bots.

You control the punches, movement, and blocking yourself. Work the body, put combinations together, or block a punch and catch your opponent with a counter. You also have to watch your stamina instead of just throwing nonstop.

Some features:

  • Real-time 1v1 fights, plus direct challenges so you can box a friend.
  • Custom boxers with points you can put into power, speed, stamina, defense, and chin.
  • Jabs, crosses, hooks, and uppercuts with either hand, targeting the head or body.
  • Combos and timed counters that reward clean punches and good defense.
  • Knockdowns where you have to beat the count to get back up. Fights that go the distance go to three judges.
  • Ranked fights and a leaderboard to climb.
  • Live fights you can spectate and highlights from recent matches.
  • Keyboard controls on desktop and touch controls on mobile.

No download, and you can play Casual without making an account. Creating one lets you save your boxer across browsers and compete in Ranked.

I just shipped some improvements and would love to hear how your first few fights go. What felt good? What was confusing or annoying? I'm still working on it, so that feedback helps.
