Tomato sandwich

Tomato sandwich

Bad picture, but delicious sandwich. 30 cals for the bread, 12 for mayo, and 7 for the tomato. Salt and pepper for free.

Egg patty

Finally realized the reason my THC edibles haven’t been hitting is because I basically have no fat in my diet, so trying to find some safe foods with fats to incorporate. I cooked this egg in like 1 g of butter.

Today is my first day at a new remote job. Kinda not sure what I should be doing.

I’ve worked more or less remotely (I guess technically hybrid - I had an office I could go to any time but only went a few times a year) for several years, but when I started at that company (pre-covid) it was in person.

I’ve never had the experience of starting a job remotely. Today is my first day, but my computer isn’t due to arrive until tomorrow. I haven’t heard much from my manager. I have asked if there is anything I should be doing until I get my computer but they haven’t said anything.

Is this normal? This feels weird to me and I’m getting anxious…

The job is totally legit btw - for anonymity sake I don’t want to share too much but I know the company well and several people who have worked there for years. My anxiety isn’t that the job is a scam but rather that there are things I should be doing that maybe I don’t know about …

Just found out my favorite treat has way more calories than I estimated

My local farmers market has a vendor who sells the most delicious crepes I’ve ever had. I get a savory crepe stuffed with cheese. It’s something I really enjoy and am not willing to give up, but I tried to estimate the calories and work it into my diet. I guessed 800 calories and thought it was probably pretty accurate, maybe even a little high.

Today, as an experiment, I got my usual crepe and a plain crepe with no fillings. The cheese crepe weighed HALF A POUND MORE. HALF A POUND OF CHEESE (900 calories) PLUS THE CREPE ITSELF.

Still not giving it up, but from now on, I’ll be cutting it into thirds and spreading it over 3 days instead of cutting it in half and spreading it over 2 days

Calorie books?

Hi all! Starting this journey again and trying to take a more “analog” approach this time. I’m avoiding MFP and other app based trackers, and have been logging foods in a notebook for about a week, but it’s getting annoying to google calories in fruits / vegetables every time.

Anyone have recommendations for a book with accurate calorie counts for common items (preferably with calories listed by weight)?

Downtown Apartments

I grew up in the Johnstown area and rented an apartment on Walnut Street for a year or two after college. I loved it and loved being downtown. Then my career took me to Pittsburgh, then to Chicago.

Now I’m ready to move back, and would love to live downtown if possible. I don’t see a lot on the market - I’ve heard rumors that there are a few residential development projects in the works, but have had a hard time finding information about any of them.

I’m curious if anyone here has any leads, or even just if anyone here owns / rents a place downtown and would be willing to share a bit about your experience (it’s been nearly 15 years since I lived there, so not too sure what it’s like living there now).

Thanks in advance for any info yinz can share!

kid-oriented / kid-friendly shops in Duck

I'm gearing up for our annual family trip to Duck - one of our traditions is that I take my niece (now 8) on a shopping trip to pick out her birthday present(s). She loved Toy-riffic and I've seen that it looks like they've closed.

She loves books and puzzles and bath things, so I'm planning to take her to the Island Bookstore and the Salty Apothecary, maybe the Sugar Shack for candy, but am worried she'll be disappointed about the toy store.

Are there any other stores that sell toys / stuffed animals that we should check out?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Saturday traffic between the bridge & Corolla

Hi folks! I’m getting excited for my annual trip to the OBX in a few weeks. I’ll be flying into Norfolk Friday and was thinking of heading over to the banks early Saturday morning. We are staying in Duck and can’t check in until 4 so I was thinking of spending some time in Corolla to visit some shops there I like. Usually I hit the bridge around 3 in the afternoon and it’s an absolute slog just to Duck. Am I going to be dealing with nightmareish traffic from the bridge to Corolla (probably get to the bridge around 10-11) and /or from Corolla back down to Duck (around 3 in the afternoon)? Am I better off just planning to hang out in Duck for the afternoon and save Corolla for a weekday?

So I guess reading is okay now

I read the book and was so excited for this show. They’re completely butchering it but I’ve been tolerating it so far but this is too far. Women not being able to read is one of the main cornerstones of Gilead. In the book they explained that the Aunts physically went to people’s homes to verbally invite them to weddings, but I guess now we are just throwing out entire foundations of the universe when they’re not convenient to the plot.
