Massive name regret three years later

My three year old daughter got incredibly sick early last week, there was a moment i thought I’d lose her. We saw three different doctors, back and forth over days before the 3rd doctor finally identified her illness and started treatment on Sunday. Things got scary, and she is barely starting to improve today while in hospital.

I saw all this to say, this last week there was a lot of times I was saying my daughter’s name and other people were saying her name.

I liked my daughter’s name during pregnancy, during delivery I wasn’t so sure anymore but my husband liked it. I thought maybe I was unsure because of the magnitude of the moment and later I thought it was postpartum emotions.

However today, 3 years later I feel embarrassed when people say it. I wish I named her differently but it’s too late. I won’t say her name but it’s a gender neutral name that leans more masculine, while my daughter is petite and sweet and it just doesn’t fit her. I’m scared she’ll be made fun of in school, I worry people judge me for her name.

After the scare from her sickness, I feel profound sadness for her name. I cried last night before bed and today I feel distraught and just removed from happiness. I’m sure almost all of this is from the emotions from my daughter’s illness but I know part of this to be true.

How do I accept her name? A middle name isn’t an option, it’s her family name and reads like a last name, think Sanchez or Johnson.

Anyway. This just felt nice to write out. It doesn’t feel so heavy anymore

My mom wants to baby sit but I think my stepdad is an unsafe person

First and foremost - I will never ever in my life put my children even in the slightest possible risk of being hurt. Please remember this as you read, thank you <3

My mom has babysat my children (all under 3 y/o) at my home only on two occasions their whole lives, so I can run errands. She asks very often to see them. One on of those occasions she brought my stepdad with her so I chose not to leave the house.

She asked me if she could baby sit this weekend for a few hours. I’ve considered telling her “only you over” but it’ll be very obvious I’m singling out my step dad from being invited over and this will cause problems. I’m okay burning a bridge with my step dad and even my own mom (already low contact). However I’m worried about my step sister.

His daughter (my step sister - we’re both in our 30s) and I have a good relationship and she’s been a wonderful aunt. We’re not super close but she’s very supportive of my family like celebrating milestones and attending events. I do not want to ruin my relationship with her however if I accuse her father of being unsafe, we won’t ever be able to repair that relationship.

How do I navigate this? I will never leave them alone with my stepfather even with my mom present.

How do I have a potty trained toddler with a newborn?

Hi! I have a 23 month old that’s one week into potty training and is doing excellent. However my problem is that she won’t say he has to go, she just takes initiative and goes to the potty and if I don’t catch her immediately she’ll pee on through her shorts and underwear.

I have a newborn so my hands are full a lot of the time. How does it work for everyone?

Are newly potty trained toddlers going out commando?

I’m reading this is to be done for a few weeks before introducing underwear - loose trousers but nothing underneath.

Is this what most parents do? It seems strange and unsanitary, only one barrier of clothing between skin and outside germs.

Confused how to go out into the world freshly trained?

We’re on day 5 training our 24 months old. She took to it really well and will sit on her chair potty unprompted and do her business.

I’m ready to attempt to enter the outside world but how does this work?

She never tells me she needs to go, she just does. She’s also pretty young where if she has to go, she has to go now. Do I carry around a portable potty in my diaper bag until she can hold it without urgency?

When did your kid transition from the chair potty?

We’re on day 3 potty training our 24 month old. They’re doing excellent on the chair potty with no accidents today (so far).

I want to progress forward but don’t want to put pressure and then regress. This is our second time attempting potty training after a fail a few months ago.

When/how do you know when to transition or did they use both at the same time?

Asking the more experienced parents

We’ve tried potty training twice. One at 20 months and the other now at 24 months. My toddler was doing awesome right off the bat sitting on the potty but then peed on the potty and now she’s utterly terrified of every toilet even her little toilet.

She won’t sit on them. She screams and screams all day (we’re on day 2) and ends up peeing on the floor while running and screaming.

I keep hearing not to give up once started. I’m worried I’m making things worse because she won’t sit on the potty so how am I suppose to train her?

Diaper issues after failed potty training

We tried and stopped potty training my 22 month old in the span of a few hours. It started off really great, they say on the toilet immediately and we read books. Things got bad when my toddler actually peed on the toilet later in the day, they got scared and wanted off immediately and ran away crying. After when my toddler peed on the floor, I said “pee goes in the toilet” and attempted to pick them up and place them on the toilet but there were tons of crying and resistance. I think I put too much pressure on my toddler. We moved back to diapers shortly after. The next day, my toddler grabbed at their diaper and cried every time they pee. It’s two days after our failed potty training and they are still grabbing at their diaper crying after peeing.
