Designed a Field Watch Concept in Fusion

Still playing around in Fusion and Illustrator. Nothing too complicated this time. I wanted to design a clean field watch with a titanium case and bracelet, then add cathedral hands to give it a bit more character and a slightly more refined look. I finished it off with a deep blue dial and some warm gold accents for a little contrast. This is all just part of learning more about watch design, proportions and different kinds of design elements. So I’m experimenting with the basics and trying out new ideas as I go.

KFA with a starlight filter

Experimenting with a stacked CPL and starlight filter, both with and without flash. The KFA is one of my favorite photography companions, so I figured it was the perfect subject for some filter experiments.

Another Type-B Flieger Design

A while back I started designing custom watch dials just for fun. The idea was simple. Design the watches I’d actually want to wear every day. This one is my take on a Flieger Type-B pilot watch. The center of the dial has a black sunburst finish (made the bump map in photoshop since there's no real sunburst texture in fusion), while the outer ring is a matte cast metal texture for a bit of contrast. I’ve always liked orange accents on black dials, so I kept them subtle but noticeable. The crystal is double domed, with a polished stainless steel bezel around it. The rest of the case has a matte, sandblasted finish. I also swapped the traditional onion crown for a more standard one since it’s more in line with my personal taste. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out overall, although I think the lugs could definitely be improved. I’d love to hear what you think.

Camera inspired watch mk2

A while back I posted a watch concept inspired by camera controls. Here’s the mk2 version.

The biggest change is the addition of a countdown bezel. I wanted to keep the photography-inspired dial but make it feel more like a practical everyday tool watch, with a chunkier case.

The dial still combines elements of shutter speed, EV, ISO controls, and a date window. The dial layout was designed in Illustrator, and everything else was modeled in Fusion as a personal project.

Camera inspired watch design

I'm a photography artist and a longtime Fujifilm user (including a medium format, GW690ii). I really love the analog controls of modern fuji cameras and wanted to bring some of the controls I use everyday into a watch design.

The watch combines elements of a shutter speed dial, an EV dial and an ISO dial. One of my favorite details is the date display, which was inspired by the ISO window on the X-Pro3 (not sure about three digits btw).

The entire piece was designed in Illustrator (dial vector) and modeled in Fusion as a personal project, exploring the overlap between photography, industrial design and timepieces. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Cheers!

Designing watches in Fusion

I started designing dials for fun with illustrator. Recently learnt a little bit Fusion to make cases. Here is my first case design study. Nothing fancy but made me understand basic things about watches in 3D.

A Personal Type-B Flieger Design

I have a beautiful Laco Paderborn. Since I got the watch I always wanted to design my own version of a type-b flieger dial. So here is my version with some custom and type-a design elements mixed into a beige matte dial with black printed markers. This is just a mockup not a real watch.

Designing watch dials for fun

Ex-graphic designer here. I got into watches at the start of this year and recently started designing dials for fun. Maybe at some point I’ll buy a cheap used watch and make a custom dial for it. Or perhaps I’ll start by designing and 3D-printing a wall clock first. I wanted to share some of my dial designs. (Designed in Illustrator, mocked up in Photoshop with Gemini.)
