Planning 3 days in Varanasi with my girlfriend — food + itinerary advice?

My girlfriend and I are visiting Varanasi for 3 days (Sept 3–5), and we’re trying to keep the trip relaxed rather than cram in every possible sight.

We’re mainly interested in the ghats, temples, sunrise/sunset, good local food, a boat ride, cafés, and just enjoying the atmosphere. I’ve also deliberately built in some AC/rest time because I’d rather not spend the whole trip exhausted from the heat.

Day 1 — Sept 3 | Ghats + Boat + Aarti

8:30 AM — Arrive & check in at Tirtha Kashi near Assi Ghat

9:30 AM — Kachori-Sabzi + Jalebi breakfast near Lanka/Assi

10:30 AM–12:30 PM — Walk through Kedar, Chousatti, Darbhanga & Munshi Ghats

12:30 PM — Lunch at Baati Chokha

2:00–4:00 PM — AC rest at the hotel

4:00–5:00 PM — Chet Singh Ghat + Tamatar Chaat at Kashi Chaat Bhandar

5:15–7:30 PM — Private sunset boat ride + Dashashwamedh Ganga Aarti from the boat

8:15 PM — Dinner

10:00 PM — Sleep

Day 2 — Sept 4 | Temple + North Ghats + Assi

4:30–6:00 AM — Kashi Vishwanath Mandir Darshan

6:00–7:00 AM — Sunrise by the Ganga + breakfast at Ram Bhandar

7:30–9:30 AM — Panchganga Ghat + Alamgir Mosque + Jatar Ghat

10:00–11:00 AM — Blue Lassi Corner

11:30 AM–1:00 PM — Return to Assi + light lunch

1:00–4:00 PM — Hotel AC rest

4:00–7:00 PM — Assi Ghat + cafés/stalls

7:30 PM — Dinner at Vatika Pizzeria

10:00 PM — Sleep

Day 3 — Sept 5 | Slow Day

4:30 AM — Wake up

5:00–6:30 AM — Subah-e-Banaras + sunrise at Assi Ghat

6:30–7:30 AM — Lemon tea on the ghat

7:45–11:30 AM — Back to hotel for a long nap

12:00 PM — Check out + leave luggage

12:15–4:30 PM — Relaxed café/ghat time, no shopping

Open Hand / Aum Cafe

Assi/Tulsi Ghat

Kulhad chai

Music + river views

4:30 PM — Collect luggage

4:45–5:35 PM — Auto to Varanasi Junction

5:40 PM — Reach station

7:00 PM — Train

Looking for some advice 🙏

Since this is a trip with my girlfriend, we’d especially love suggestions for things that would make it memorable without turning it into a rushed sightseeing trip.

A few things I’d love some local/experienced opinions on:

What would you change in this itinerary? Anything unnecessary or anything obvious that we’re missing?

What food should we absolutely try? Breakfast, lunch, dinner, street food, sweets, lassi, chai — anything you think is a must.

Any peaceful or memorable experiences for couples that we should add?

Is the private sunset boat + Ganga Aarti worth doing, or would you recommend a different boat experience?

Is Day 2 too ambitious with the early temple visit + north ghats?

Any specific ghats or cafés where you’d recommend just sitting around, having chai and enjoying the atmosphere?

Anything we should avoid as tourists — scams, overpriced experiences, or places that aren't really worth the time?

Any tips for staying comfortable in September?

We’re intentionally trying to avoid the whole “tick off 20 attractions in 3 days” type of trip.

We’d rather see a few things properly, eat really well, have some downtime, and just enjoy Varanasi together.

If this were your 3-day Varanasi trip with your partner, what would you change? 🙏
