watching season 6 for the first time and i am very confused by mary/henry & the writing in general.

i just finished episode 8. im so confused. mary and henry have literally no chemistry, he bullied and guilt tripped her into marriage, has a passion for reckless driving which killed her husband, and yet every single character keeps telling us theyre so inlove?? when even mary says his driving is too triggering and potentially traumatizing??? she chooses to marry him so quick without even first coming up with a solution to the whole potential-2nd-car-crash-widow thing. henry isn’t even remotely likeable or attractive! why are they pushing it SO hard when they’ve barley had a single intriguing scene together? their marriage was literally a hard watch for me. charles was the only one who could meet matthew standards. im just so disappointed with the writing. i was open to mary remarrying, but they just fooled around with a couple guys until it got too late in the season to keep playing around so they just threw marriage onto them. it makes noooooo sense. also fuck tom for pressuring mary into it and repeatedly ignoring her boundaries. also him randomly becoming a capitalist? and mary and edith randomly becoming major opps again despite that whole mary vs edith thing being sooo many seasons ago? s6 is a whole mess!

if they hadn’t killed off ….. and ……. (names in desc) and instead recast them, who would you like to replace them?

(MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH SPOILERS)
first time watcher here! i found myself mad that they decided to kill off both sybil and matthew in the same season just bc the actors didn’t want to stay on the show, and wondered about if i would like them being recast instead. so, fun little idea here, if they hadn’t killed off sybil and matthew and instead recast them, who would you like to replace them?

don’t like how they wrote tom after… (spoilers below)

sybils death. in early seasons, tom was strong in his political opinions, it being the very thing that made him and sybil originally connect. tom is a strong socialist until sybil dies, and after that, he turns into everything both he and sybil thought wrong with their society. you would think living such a luxurious life after experiencing his childhood and early adulthood a poor servant (especially an irish one) that he would stand even stronger by his beliefs and fight for a more equal society. but no.. he turns into a capitalist who turns his back on the very class he used to be apart of, seemingly even ashamed by his own brother and friend expressing the opinions he used to hold! i truly believe if sybil met season 5 tom, they would not get along. tom is just a bootlicker now and it makes me sad because i loved his character in seasons 1-3.

anyway, i’m only on season 5 episode 2. NO SPOILERS PLEASE!

how much should i expect my grades to drop in grade 11?

i got fairly good grades this past year in grade 10 (92% average), but am nervous about the transition to grade 11 and 12. many teachers have said gr11 is much harder, but they didn’t specify what to expect. also, i procrastinate a lot. i always get my assignments in on time, but i rarely, if ever, do work at home (especially unchecked/unmarked work). should i be expecting a lot of that in gr11? how much did your guys’ grades drop?

why did the waterfords have fans at the end of s4e8?

we didn’t see any perspective from people not believing june, or gilead believers in canada, and people seemed to hate them the last time they were in canada, so where did the sudden mass support come from?

did anyone find the june raping luke scene weird?

i feel like there were many ways she couldve reclaimed her sexuality and shown the way gilead turned her into a more violent person without having her rape her husband.

are we supposed to root for june and nick?

i’m watching season 1 for the first time (no spoilers please) and it feels like theyre pushing for us to like june and nick when he literally agrees to r@pe her.

also, i don’t like luke either. he didnt seem even slightly bothered when womens rights to own land, have a job, and have a bank account were obliterated. every man in this show is fucking evil, and maybe thats the point or something, but it feels like they want us to “ship” them with june so i’m a bit lost.

why would they let the handmaidens ki// men?

i’m watching s1e1 for the first time (no spoilers please) and they get all the handmaidens together to beat a man to death for rape. i dont understand why the gillead government would teach the handmaidens that if they work together they can kill their rapists. maybe its meant to be a metaphor or something, but it just feels like something the government just wouldnt do as it is so unbelievably stupid and practically begging the handmaidens to rebel.
