Welcome Skylar Spinach, Raul the Crab, and Alpha Male Carl.

I’m fostering Shi Maria and Uzi Jesus from a TNR project I’m working on, and surprise! Found 3 more kittens. DCC is a never ending source of kitten names. Thanks Matt!

Hi, I’m the girl who squeezes cats. Here is my cat tour!

  1. Shadowheart- born with Spina Bifida. She was found as a stray 6 week old kitten by some good Samaritans, who took her to a rescue. That rescue didn’t feel they could adequately care for her so they asked my rescue to take her. She is so sweet, outgoing, and confident! Shadowheart is available for adoption.

  2. Gus- was born with some congenital deformities. He is another transfer from an independent rescuer who didn’t have the time or space to adequately care for him. Gus is sweet, sensitive, and loves everyone! Gus is available for adoption.

  3. Cypress- he was transferred from a partner shelter in Beirut, Lebanon. Cypress is paraplegic after being injured in the port explosion in Beirut in 2020. Cypress is… sassy. Lovable, loud, and very very sassy. Cypress is available for adoption.

  4. Athena- also from the same shelter in Lebanon. Athena was found as a paraplegic stray with a traumatic spinal injury (likely hit by car). Athena had a bilateral hind limb amputation in 2023 and has no problem getting around on 2 legs. Athena is confident, independent, and super smart. Athena is available for adoption.

  5. Serafina- was born with Spina Bifida to a feral mom on the streets of Jersey City. She was picked up by a TNR volunteer who sent out a plea for rescue. I immediately fell in love with this tiny mischievous baby bat and we’ve been together ever since. Serafina is a personal pet.

  6. Poe- another transfer from Lebanon. Poe had a family who loved him, but he disappeared one day and was found with both his hind feet cut off and a spinal injury. His family couldn’t care for him in his condition and sought rescue. He ended up being sent to Tabby’s Place, a cat sanctuary I used to work at, where I adopted him. Poe is smart, funny, and a total drama queen. Poe is a personal pet.

  7. Helena- was found in a Goodwill bin. Helena was born paraplegic from a spinal defect usually only seen in bulldogs. Helena was brought to a local shelter, and transferred to Tabbys Place, I fell in love with her while fostering, and couldn’t say goodbye. Helena is a personal pet.

My “squeeze” routine with 7 incontinent cats

Have you ever cared for a cat with paraplegia or incontinence? It’s not as scary as it seems!

I run a cat rescue for cats with serious medical needs or disabilities. I’m always happy to answer questions and help guide other incontinent cat guardians!

What veterinary practice do you recommend? (Very specific needs)

Hello,

I run a 501c3 cat rescue and we are shopping for a new vet clinic. However, we have very specific needs and I’m having trouble finding a place that will work. We’ve been having to use emergency hospitals and of course that is incredibly expensive and time consuming.

  1. We often need same day or same week appointments. Not for emergencies, but for snap tests, vaccines, treatment for upper respiratory infections, or UTIs.

  2. We have many new patients. As a rescue, of course we have a revolving door of cats. It seems to be much harder to find appointments in a reasonable time for “new patients”.

  3. We need a veterinarian who is comfortable treating disabled cats. There is a lot of prejudice around cats who have special needs, and whether or not they have the right to exist. I’ve had a vet tell me he used to breed Manx cats and when they were born with Spina Bifida (like the cat I had brought for treatment) he would euthanize them. Unhelpful at best.

  4. Discount for 501c3s would be great, but is not a requirement as long as there are affordable prices and flexible treatment plans.

Can anyone recommend a vet practice you think could be a good fit?

Athena, the two-legged cat

Athena had a bilateral amputation in 2023. She was paralyzed after presumably being hit by a car, and developed severe nerve pain/discomfort in her hind limbs, causing her to chew one of her back feet off. I decided on the amputation as a last resort before euthanasia because she was otherwise a normal and happy cat.

As soon as she recovered from sedation after surgery the relief was visible. She had a quick and uneventful recovery, and now lives her life almost completely the same as her 4 legged siblings.

I love this cat so much! She inspires me every day to be as tough and resilient as she is.

Would you like a cat/game lounge in Tacoma?

Hello neighbors!

I run a 501c3 cat rescue for disabled and medically complex cats. It has been my dream for years to combine my love of cat rescue, and my love of tabletop and video games and open a cat sanctuary and game lounge. My vision is a place where friends can gather and play their favorite games, and also provide socialization and comfort for kitties who could take a much longer time finding a home than the average cat. For years I was hoping to open this location in Seattle…. Until I started working for the city of Seattle. Unfortunately, I just do not have the same love for the city that I used to.

My partner and I moved to Tacoma about a year ago, and we love it here. I have genuinely enjoyed myself here way more than I was expecting, and I’ve made great friends in the community. However, after doing so much market research in Seattle, I’m a little nervous of moving my plans towards a different city. All of this to say- Do you think the concept of a cat/gaming lounge is something the community would appreciate and enjoy? Is there anything in particular that you would like to see, or that you find problematic? I’d love to hear some honest feedback since this would be quite a pivot from prior planning.
