Cleaning and preserving a metal sculpture for outdoors

Cleaning and preserving a metal sculpture for outdoors

Hi all. I'm looking for advice on cleaning and preserving this rusted sculpture for outdoors. I can't say what metal it is specifically, but it's not particularly flaky - I think the pieces are different types of metal, actually.

This is a 2nd-floor patio in my apartment, which is mostly dry and windswept, but gets heavy fog regularly - we have a rainy season, but I might take it inside then.

I currently have Rustoleum "Dead flat clear" top coat spray here, but didn't want to use it before seeing others' advice.

On that note, any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Review of the new English translation, "The Depressed Hunter"

CatSynth TV dives deep into the new English translation of Le Chasseur Déprime from Dark Horse, The Depressed Hunter, and places it in the context of the other works in Moebius' saga of Major Grubert. We also marvel at some of the details in Moebius' drawings and illustrations, like how the density of lines signifies light.

Error with AnythingLLM + Ollama + Obsidian

Hi all-

I've been experimenting with AnythingLLM + Ollama with my large Obsidian vault as the data source. Mostly just for fun, curiosity, and to see what sort of surprises it can do for me before attempting to use it in a practical way. After a question or two, I get this error in AnythingLLM chat.

An error occurred while streaming response. network error

For reference, I am running Ollama llam3:latest as the LLM, Ollama nomic-embed-text as the embedder.

Current chunk size is 512 with 200 overlap, though I have tried 1024 and 2048 as well, which yield the same results.

Obsidian vault is about 7K docs of varying lengths, but nothing as long as a scientific paper or anything like that.

System is MacBook Pro M1 Max with 64GB RAM. macOS Sequoia 15.7.3

Thanks in advance for any advice on the error, or an alternative approach to just exploring LLM + Obsidian.

Down the road, I think it might help with some assistant tasks, or writing first drafts of things I really don't feel like writing.

Automatically insert a Solid Color generator without ripple?

Hi all

One thing I find myself doing a lot is grabbing a Solid Color generator and placing it below another clip (i.e., as a background for an overlay to cover another clip). I'd love to find a way to do this with a script or other automation as opposed to dragging it from the generators section each time (or copying and pasting). It would be nice to get the mouse/trackpad out of the equation here.

Thanks!

Specs:

  • Resolve Studio 21.0 (Build 47)
  • macOS Seqoia 15.7.7
  • Mac Studio M4 Max (64GB)

Demo/tutorial of the new Ensoniq ESQ-1 by Cherry Audio

Cherry Audio just dropped their new Ensoniq ESQ-1, and I'm out with a massive demo and tutorial for it. The focus is on the synth voice features, but we go over arp, sequencer, effects, and factory presets as well. 😻🍒🎹📺

(N.B., not affiliated with Cherry Audio, and not a sales post)

Kenton USB Solo mk2, MIDI to CV converter tutorial (plus my cat Big Merp)

Sometimes it's the less flashy devices that make a difference. This little box has been quite handy in the studio for both playing my modular system and sync'ing it with my DAWs.

In true CatSynth fashion, my cat Big Merp wandered into frame during the filming of this demo, so he ended up getting featured 😺

(N.B., I do not work for Kenton Electronics; this is not a sales post)

Big Merp and Big Modular

My big boy Merp poses handsomely with our large Eurorack installation. 😻🎛️

I'll leave it up to the good folks of this community to identify their favorite modules in the photo.

My demo/tutorial for the new Arturia Memory V

Memory V is a recreation of the infamous Memorymoog (search this group for complaints about maintaining it).

Alas, I don't have access to a real one to compare right now.

Lowriders at yesterday's Carnaval parade

Wandered over to Mission Street yesterday specifically to see the lowriders that open the parade. I have a fondness for them, especially the classic cars and the more complex modifications, and made this video as a little tribute (I played the background music).

Just received Zappa '66!

Really excited to check this out and share our thoughts in a proper review soon. This one is going to be a bit more raw, I think, than some of the recent boxes.
