Switch to Freedom experience

Hi all,

I’ve read a few posts where folks have discussed their experience switching from Fido to Freedom, but I was hoping to get a bit more feedback in terms of customer experience before making the switch.

For those who have switched, particularly in the past year, how has your experience been and are you satisfied with the service?

It seems particularly attractive right now since I’m planning a UK trip and the back to school plans include international roaming.

TIA!

High RPMs

Recently purchased a 2025 CR-V hybrid. Liking it so far but I’ve noticed going up steep hills it seems to rev super high and appears to be working harder to make it up the hill vs. any other vehicle I’ve owned.

This is my first experience with a hybrid and was curious if this is normal or if I should have the dealer check it out.

Edit: Thanks all for the responses. Gives me some peace of mind I don’t need to take it into the dealer. I’ve been running it in eco mode so I’ll experiment with Sport the next time I’m on a steep incline.

Any regrets?

I'm considering getting an ebike and trying to determine cost/benefit for my scenario. Looking to see if there are others in my shoes who have purchased and whether they found all of the associated costs worthwhile.

It won't be a commuter as I've recently retired. I'm in good shape but my local area is on a 600 foot elevation and I find that after a long ride, that last leg of the return is pretty brutal on my 30 year old hybrid. Likely usecase is 2-3 times a week for 6 months of the year (winters are not great riding weather in this part of Canada).

Besides the bike (currently looking at Aventor Level 3 or 4 or Velotric Discover 3), I'm looking at installing a trailer hitch for my SUV and a bike rack. I'm assuming I'll pick it up assembled at a local retailer and might also want to drive to various areas or trailheads. Plus, if I need to get it serviced it would need to be driven to a local retailer. Beyond those costs I'd need to pick up a decent helmet.

Bike could be upwards of $3200 (taxes in) depending on the model. Hitch varies depending where it's purchased installed. The cost of a bike rack that will accomodate something that heavy varies but I'm seeing from $700ish to skys the limit. No idea what a decent helmet goes for yet. I'm sure there may be other expenses/costs I'm not considering.

The costs are manageable and I get that opinions are super subjective. I think it could be a lot of fun (biking in general is pretty fun) but I can't help but wonder if I'd ultimately end up paying thousands of dollars to go a little faster and avoid walking up the last 1/2 km to my house. Having no experience with ebikes, maybe there's someone who was in a similar position can weigh in.
