Hal Foster’s run of Prince Valiant from 1937 to the 70s is absolutely legendary. Foster was a consummate draftsman, and influenced so many titans including Frazetta, Buscema, and Kirby. Not only art the art and setting incredible, but the writing is fantastic as well. Foster was careful to balance epic adventure with courtly intrigue and even family slice of life. It’s still ongoing, with art and writing duties passed through John Cullen Murphy and his son, Gary Gianni, Mark Schultz, and Thomas Yeates. It is the longest ongoing adventure strip, and is one of the American tradition’s greatest gifts to the medium. 10/10 highly recommended! I can’t stop thinking about it since I read it through - Im about to dive in for a second read through.

Books shipped from dry climate to wet… pages are wavy

I’ve read this can happen going from one environment to another, and that it will work itself out on its own. Is this true? Should I maybe put some heavy weight on top of the books for a little while? I do run dehumidifiers in my house FWIW.

(Books are Prince Valiant Fantagraphic hardcovers)

Wits end with fuel delivery issue (lean codes bank 1 & 2, 2004 Ford Ranger 3.0)

I'm frustrated. I'm still getting lean code errors on both banks 1 and 2 on my 2004 3.0 edge.

I've done the following recently:

  • Dropped the tank and cleaned the inside (today)
  • Replaced fuel pump (last week)
  • Replace fuel filter (today)
  • Replaced fuel lines between pump and tank (I have not replaced the steel line running downstream of the filter to the engine yet) (today)

Previously I've:

  • Cleaned the MAF
  • Replaced the starter
  • Replaced the fuel pump relay
  • Replaced battery, plugs, and wires

At first crank, it was pretty unstable but I chalked that up to pressure needing to build up at the rail. After about 5 minutes, it was actually idling really well and consistently. While I did not drive it, I packed it in and called it a day well done. I came back an hour later to pick up the truck, when it had a hard start, then threw the same lean codes, and had a very hesitating unsteady idle. It didn't quite lose power, but it was close.

This is the 4th fuel pump in 3 years. Moreover, at some point, the harness for the inertia switch melted. I checked the ground strap and it doesn't look corroded or anything, though I haven't yet un/reinstalled it to ensure a good connection. The current pump has 0 miles driven on it, so I am having a hard time believing this pump is weak/dying unless it's an electrical problem that is now RAPIDLY frying them (before it took about a year for each pump to die).

Obviously, the next thing to replace would be the metal fuel line that is downstream of the fuel filter that runs to the engine. It's pre-bent and doesn't seem easy to source outside of a junkyard - no idea how much better off I'll be with a used line.

I guess the injectors could be bad, but would they all fail at once such that I'm getting lean on both banks? Previously and up to this current maintenance, I'd get lean on bank 1, then bank 1 and 2 after a few days riding it around.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I'm starting to feel like this is getting costly of my time. I like to DIY, but FFS I'm tired of this problem. Any ideas?

What are the odds that Rain ever buckles down and trains for another ASL?

it’s so frustrating that Protoss’s best player doesnt take Broodwar as serious as other races’ champions. Considering his streaming career and being the oldest member of the typical ASL cast with a family and all, are we ever going to see Rain get into peak form again?

Dont get me wrong, Snow, Bisu, Mini, and Best can all upset the apple cart, but Rain is like a sleeping giant. We need some Toss wins!

Can anyone share a pic of the Hobby Lobby Artist Box will a full set of Ch 1 player cards?

Interested to see how much space is available for layout and fit. There is a smaller box online that I find more attractive, but if the artist box is already a tight fit than it won't work. Also curious if it's possible to do 6 columns, one per class.

[US 29435][W] Prince Valiant The Storytelling Game 2nd edition

I know 1st editions are floating around at reasonable prices, but man that 2nd edition looks plush! I missed the boat on the add-on for chaosium’s last KS, so if anyone out there has buyers regret or just finds they have one too many RPG books gathering dust on the shelf, please let me know!

I'd be interested in bundle deals that include the Episode Book as well. Thanks!

[BSL] The difference in views between games with Artosis and without is a literal order of magnitude.

Kinda makes me feel BSL lacks starpower. Korean pros are also heavy streamers. I'm sure one hand washes the other, but I wonder if there's anything foreign BW players can do to increase their draw? Obviously, Artosis and his stream is exceptional in many ways, but the lack of views is disheartening.

I guess it doesn't help that BSL production values are significantly lower.

Flashlight vs Winging It in my TCU Preston

Hello all,

I'm about to pilot fairly standard Preston + Diana builds through a blind run of TCU with my wife. I think I've got everything dialed in except for the quandary in the title.

I'm thinking Flashlight is probably more consistent, since it allows shenanigans with Look What I Found across a wider range of shrouds, not to mention auto-succeeds up to 2 shroud.

That said, I kinda like Winging It for the double clue trigger, which can be abused with Double or Nothing. It still has interplay with Look What I found, though less so. It shuffles back into the deck, synergizing with all the card draw from Rabbit's Foot and Drawing Thin (though possibly too much of a good thing with dead draws later in the game?) I do wish it had commit pips, but on the other hand I do like that it's a little different from every other Preston build which features flashlight.

I'm probably leaning towards Winging It just because I've never played it before, but I know TCU is unforgiving and ultimately just want to make sure my wife has a good time (she has wanted to play Preston for years!)

Edit: I suppose Old Key Ring is an option too. Cheaper than Flashlight with fewer charges, but recursive with Resourceful.

I'd been reading scans of Prince Valiant obtained... on the internet, which petered out around the beginning of 1945, RIGHT as a critical plot point was beginning to be resolved. I was reading panels aloud to my wife in fact, laughing at how the dynamic between Val and his paramour is similar to us, then I suddenly had no more to read.

I bemoaned running out of material to read and how expensive the Fantagraphics hardcover books are, especially the out of print volume 8 which really prevents me from even starting to collect. She said "why don't we just look on ebay and see what's up there?"

Lo and behold, a full collection of the paperback for a decent price $270 shipped, after tax. All 50 volumes of covering Hal Foster's 35 years. She basically told me that I have to buy it, it's my birthday and I'll certainly cherish it.

In case you were like me and assumed from the funny papers that Prince Valiant was a dull nothing of a strip, it's actually the longest running serial comic out there – and at least the Foster years are incredible quality art and storytelling. I'm going through some withdrawals not being able to cozy up and read a few more panels tonight, but soon I'll be in hog heaven!
