Best and Worst Opening Days
Having seen a few posts in other football subs, thought I'd post this in here to start such a discussion
With the opening day round the corner (if admittedly two weeks or so out), let's have a chat about our respective clubs' historic opening day games and see which ones were brilliant and which, less so
Two come to mind for my sins as a Newcastle fan. In 2023, we started the season by demolishing Aston Villa 5-1 and it was a rather exceptional display. By contrast, my stinker is a 4-0 mauling by Manchester City in 2013 in which we had Steven Taylor sent off and Yohan Cabaye on strike in an unsuccessful attempt to force a move to Arsenal
