Is it worth replacing galvanized pipes or just repair them?
Our house is from the late 80s and we’ve started having annoying issues: low pressure in the showers, random small leaks, and discolored water sometimes. The plumber told us most of the pipes are galvanized and are corroding on the inside. He can patch the worst spots for a few thousand, but the quote to replace everything with PEX is significantly more.
I’m trying to figure out if it’s smarter to just keep repairing as things pop up or bite the bullet and do the full replacement now. Has anyone been through this? Did you regret only doing repairs, or was going all-in on replacement the right call long-term?
We’re in the Illawarra and got a quote from Top Flow Plumbing Services. They were pretty honest about the pros and cons. Would love to hear your experiences!
