What I'd Do Differently in 3 Months of Prep

ok last month and somehow pulled off a 517 (131/126/131/129). but since then I've had a lot of "damn I wish I did x y and z" moments, so here's a list that might help someone.

What I Did:

  • Content Review (1 month)
  • uworld (1 month)
  • AAMC only material including all qpacks, section banks, and official guide questions (1 month)
  • Milesdown Anki Deck (kindaaa lol)
  • Excel Sheet to Keep Track of Wrong Answers and Explanations
  • 100 pg PS Doc
  • 2 Kaplans, 1 NS & 5 AAMC FLs

What I Wish I Had Done/Added:

I wish I was doing 2-3 CARS passages everyday from Jack Westin or any other source. I can't read so this might have helped me get a higher score.

I wasn't consistent with my Anki cards at all, and the weeks where I did them somewhat consistently I was able to recall specific details much more easily and everything felt more fresh in my head.

I wish I had done more questions from uPangea during my content review month. Practice is soooo much more important than just reviewing content cuz AAMC tests your ability to decipher the passages and apply very basic concepts.

I wish I didnt get lazy and did the 300 page doc instead of the 100 page one. I wouldnt have gotten confused by AAMC made up terms on the real deal😂

Lastly, I wish i had TRUSTED THE FLS!!! My body would have had much lower cortisol levels this last month😭

Learn from my mistakes, good luck out there!

Do I really need to know every single step of glycolysis by heart

I see a lot of people doing this and I'd rather not if I don't have to. I'm taking a heavy course load + doing an internship while studying for my MCAT in May and I'd love to optimize where I can for my own sanity. I agree that these are extremely important topics and we need to know regulation/enzyme types and actions including cofactors, cosubstrates and byproducts/places where the pathways diverge and feed into other pathways... but I seriously balk at the whole 'memorizing the diagram' thing for all of them, if you know what I mean.

My internal argument is that the MCAT is unlikely to ask questions that involve the specific order of intermediates, and if they did, there would be some amount of context(?). It seems to me that the questions are often just as logic based as they are memory based, hence the whole passage style.

But also, I am sure many of you know much more than I do about this test and I'd like to hear more informed opinions. I'd rather be wrong now than in May!

Know your value, never ever under charge

I am a tech ugc creator and its been 4 years since i have been in the ugc industry, and one thing that i have learnt over the years is that if you will not value yourself, then brands will also not value you, you need to set boundaries early in your UGC career in order to grow fast.

Now don’t get me wrong here, i am not telling that behave rudely with any brand, no you don’t need to do that, its just that keep the convo professional only, you can make friends(that is important too) but not to the extent that just because of your friendship brand is under charging you and not giving your share that you deserve.

What happened with me was almost 2 years ago ig, there was a skin care brand for whom i shot a ugc video and i became friends with the manager of that brand somehow(long story, will explain in different post how to network), so that brand approached me again and now my so call friend says like bro “ why are you charging your friend”, you should do it for free or min. price, i am kinda introvert so i don’t know what to said, i gave him the $x price which was way below the price which i charge the brands, after this incident nonetheless i got a lesson that never be too friendly with any brand no matter how pleasing it is. Also please don’t be like me speak for yourself and your rights because no one else is going to do it for you and your respect is in your hands only.

Now after this incident i have rejected several brands who don’t agree to my pricing.

Positive tests but bleeding like a period. Anyone experienced this?

I’m currently 6 weeks pregnant. I was 13 days late when I got a clear positive pregnancy test. I took another test 48 hours later and it was positive again.

The day after my first positive, I started bleeding. It went from light spotting to bright red bleeding that looked like a period, with mild cramps similar to my usual menstrual cramps. I passed one large dark red jelly-like clot but no obvious tissue. The mild cramps only lasted for a day and it was on and off, not really a pain for me.

I’m currently taking medications prescribed by my doctor and the bleeding has became lighter again, which is making me wonder what that means? I have a follow-up appointment with my doctor in 5 days, but I’m feeling anxious while waiting.

Has anyone had a similar experience? What was the outcome for you?
