Voices From the Streets

I hope I am in the right sub, if not kindly let me know. In the 1980s my family became involved with the most active homelass advocacy group in DC. (those wonerrful Reagan years...). yes we protested, served food, got briefly areested - all the usual stuff. We wanted to work with these folks on a personal level. We had decades of experience in amateur theater and my mother happened to be a gifted writer. She founded the above named group "Voiced From the Streets" which invited anyone interested to share their stories with us. She would then create either monologues or scenes around their lives. With children she would re-create fairy tales that better reflected their realities in an age-appropriate way. We held rehersals where folks knew we were there to listen, encourage, and spend the day really appreciating their courage and dedication. And they worked hard. We were fortunate to usually find sponsors to donate the meals, if not we came up with it ourselves. They felt safe, respected and valued. The project really took off and they performed for congress and eventually around the country.

Sorry for the long post, my point is that I have dozens of scripts that I don't know what to do with. The community I currently live in is too small for this program that although it doesn't necessarily require a lot of people it does require dedication, discipline, and a lot of compassion and committment. The blueprints are among the boxes of papers that I have. More information available on request. Thank you for reading.

Hurt and offended by a grieving friend...

One of my closest friends (both middle-aged F) lost her husband a few months ago after several heartbreaking years. We no longer live in the same state and I unfortunately have medical issues and can't travel. I genuinely focused on being present and supportive of her, imagining the brutality of losing a life partner (no children) to a slowly debilitating condition.

We often send each other e-mails with links we think the other may find interesting. Usually about music. A couple of weeks ago she sent me one along with her thoughts and asking for mine. Somehow I managed to misinterpret the question and evidently answered "incorrectly". She pointed it out but I did not see it (I don't live for my inbox). The next day I got a very prickly e-mail about how she supposes it doesn't matter to me - blah blah. I responded that I had misinterpreted the question and did not see her clarification. I apologized for the miscommunication.

She replied "oh, I thought ypu were being passive-aggresive". I was stunned.

But I love and care about her deeply, especially at this time in her life. After a few days I did write back - explaining how hurt and offended I was that instead of attempting to clarify matters in any other way she jumped to the assumption that I was somehow treating her badly. That's it.

Her response? "Don't dwell on it". How do I fix this without feeling like I constantly have to "suck it up" (it is a lifelong theme). I really don't want/expect anything from her but damn - If she wasn't in grieving I would likely just let the friendship die.

Massive clumps of fur!

Circa 15 y/o female cat. Has always been generally healthy. Has frequiently vomited after eating wet food (grain-free) for the past 2-3 years, usually in the morning, I thought that maybe she was eating too fast and exhibited no other signs of distress.

She has gone through this present perod before - but not to this extreme. She pulls out massive clumps of fur and leaves mounds all over the house. Oddly, nobody has actually witnessed her but it's impossible to keep up with. This episode has lasted about a month so far. She's not scratching herself or grooming abnormally (from what we see) and I'm not aware of any stressors that my be causing her anxiety. Her behaivior is normal.

I really can't afford a vet, if anyone has some tips I can try bfore that last resort I would be truly grateful.

Portable O2 concentrators. Which online dealers are honest and have functional customer service? Please help!

I need either a place to repair my Arya Q-series (though it may be too late) or I need to purchase a new one. I was just taken by Varon (STRONG WARNING - the brand advertises over several identical sites with giddirent names but the equipment is always branded with the Varon name). Unfortunately I will need it for the rest of my life but it's a huge investment. Any assistance/tips/even good thoughts are genuinly appreciated.

AITA probably not, but am I heartless?

In the 60s my family lived in a small town. They had a small group of friends who were related to one another through marriage. My father (now 90) and D fell in love. She remained married and they were very discreet and respectful. Her husband was a snake and giving her freedom assured his - but she was the perfect wife when necessary. L was married to D's brother, she and D had known each other since high school. They had a symbiotic but often dysfunctional relationship. Several years ago we "lost" D to Alzheimers. Her daughter circled the wagons tightly and D just disappeared into assisted living, memory care, and, finally, hospice. I would reach out occassionally via text (D was like a mother to me, her daighter and I had been very close friends - no drama, we just drifted apart) and for some time I was told that her quality of life was good and that made my father and I happy. D was a phenomenal human being and stunningly beautiful - and like a mother to me. I had to live with my mother's toxic jealousy (turns out that my mother cheated first - learned that after 30 years because my father didn't tell anyone while my mother would tell anyone within 10 minutes of meeting them how my father ran off with her best friend) A few years ago I moved back into town to look after my father. I had to live with L's fomenting resentment and anger towards her. Did I mention she lives next door? D died last weekend. By pure chance I found out first. Before I left to go tell my father I texted L. We had learned earlier in the day it was iminent. Her reply to me froze my blood ("oh, maybe now I can see her"). She has said/done quite a few offensive things in the past but I'm not sure I can get past this. But she's had a very tough life with a lot of loss and has been very helpful and kind in times of need. She's somewhat emotionally dependant on me because her remaining child (M62) is an ass. She calls me her "oasis". She's 86. I'm grieving and angry and frankly tired of sucking it up. But am I cruel? Or an asshole?
