Happy to be here!
With the State of Play sale I could no longer resist.
I am upgrading from a Quest 1.
I already bought a handfull of VR games like Horizen, RE, GT7 and Hitman.
Excited to be here!

So yeah exactly what the title says. I love Valve and my SteamDeck and I want to support an open Linux VR headset. But $1000+ Is getting to high for me. And then I still need to build a powerfull gaming PC to drive it. I'll be spending between 2-3K when this is all done.
All while I have a PS5 just sitting there and the PSVR2 is currently on sale again...
Since the Steam Machine is expected to hit $1200 while having the performance of a PS5, I think it's better to go the DIY route even with inflated memory pricing.
My main reason being that the Steam machine will have a RX7600 GPU.
Spending ~42% more on a DIY solution will give me ~201% more GPU performance.
(Numbers are based on the 1080p Ultra benchmarks in this article from Tom's Hardware)
I also calculated that with a higher end build the inflated RAM and SSD prices will be a smaller part of the overall build. Overpaying only ~16% of the total cost compared to ~60% on a RX7600 build compared too september 2025.
My plan is to use a Fractal Ridge case so I don't need to worry too much about GPU space now and with future upgrades. I am gonna mount it on the back of my TV Stand.
Using a PS5 wall mount kit like this one.
My hope is to undervolt it to be relatively quiet ~38dB.
I want to enable USB wake on the motherboard so i can wake it with my SteamController.
And use this adapter to enable HDMI-CEC support with my TV.
I plan to use Bazzite or SteamOS for the OS.
There are 2 fans included in the case and I still have thermalpaste laying around from my GF's PC build.
Final note: Yes a RX9070 non XT would technically be slightly better value but I like having the extra GPU headroom for VR gaming since modded flat to VR games can be quite heavy.
