Ridiculously delicious

BS Millet Crisp - Hot & Spicy 90g

Firstly this was amazing. Maybe I was a little peckish, maybe I was tired..but this hits all the right notes. Found in a Chinese supermarket, now I want more and am curious if they have other flavours. This spicy one combined with the texture of the crispy millet was addictive. Full on flavour, think chilli sensations and x2 and then the 🌶️ tingle stays with you after for a bit too 😋

If I’m honest I had to look up what ‘millet’ is:

Millet rice is not actually rice, but rather small-seeded cereal grasses cooked and eaten in the same fluffy style as rice. Naturally gluten-free, rich in protein and fibre, and have a lower glycemic index than white rice.

So like ‘Squares’ crisps but with a rice like taste and texture..so satisfying. If you can find it, buy two.

Sour cream and chilli seasoning..

Do you think this is a flavour you could recreate from seasonings from a supermarket or maybe online ingredients?

It’s up there next to that darn sweet chilli flavour from Sensations as my addictions.

I don’t get it?

I don’t get why manufacturers go to great lengths to formulate flavours if you’re only going to add a whiff of it onto the crisps..it’s getting really frustrating. Unless it’s me and I’m losing my taste..give me the full flavour hit, watering it down and expecting me to really like your product is ridiculous and exploitative at worst..

If Walter White made snacks

Wotsits Crunchy Sweet and Spicy, 140g

This stuff is crack. That sweet and spicy seasoning is perfection, presumably the same recipe as the Cheetos one because it has me hooked every time. They’re Nic Nacs really but denser and crunchier, great as a snack but reckon could liven up a salad like spicy croutons 🥗 I think in the past they’ve released a cheese flavour and I seem to remember that being just as addictive. However they’re making this..let them cook.

Poulet time.

Saveur Poulet Au Thym, 120g

Another World Cup flavour from France. Not too dissimilar to Sensations Chicken and Thyme here in UK but slightly lighter in seasoning. The fine crinkle makes them that much better. If you could have the crinkle cut of this French one and the seasoning of the UK chicken flavour that would be perfect.

How much for quality of old?

Just had a packet of Wheat Crunchies bacon and it tasted like nothing of its original flavour from the 90s. And are they baked and not fried? They were dry as, and bland as ..The fault is firmly the lack of seasoning and so my question would be..how much more would you pay for crisps with decent amount of flavour..10%, 15%, maybe even 20%? I want my snacks and drinks and chocolates to taste like I remember them 😠 it’s one thing for the confectionery people to short change us in change of recipe but another for the snacks people too..

Another FIFA flavour found

Lays Saveur Barbecue Ribs, 120g

Nicely ridges, good crisp, meaty..ish.

Like all Lays/Walkers it’s under seasoned otherwise decent. Surprisingly smaller than UK packs..stingy.

Not quite Brannigan’s mustard but nice enough

Kettle Honey Dijon Mustard, 130g

I remember Brannigans clearing the sinuses like wasabi..these less so. Not so much tickling the taste buds, more a poke..mustard light let’s say.

Not the GOAT, but good crisps

Brets SAVEUR Chèvre spiment d'Espelette, 125g

According to the internets this is:
Goat cheese + Espelette pepper flavour), it’s a French-style flavour pairing: creamy, tangy goat cheese (“chèvre”) with the warm, slightly smoky, gently spicy flavour of Piment d’Espelette (a Basque pepper).

As you open the packet, the smell is distinctly goats cheese but it’s well balanced. The spiciness isn’t something to write home about but overall a decent crisp.

Perfect combination 👰 🤵

Pringles Hot Kickin’ Sour Cream, 160g + Sour cream and chives dip.

Why didn’t I think of this sooner? It’s so obvious to compliment this flavour with the matching dip..I mean that said I don’t know if barbecue sauce will go with barbecue Pringles..hmm or will it?

As a plus..there’s a nice little warm tickle on the taste buds from the ‘hot’ flavouring..

Edit. Just had a Pringle on its own and realised it’s the sour cream dip that’s doing the heavy lifting in the taste department..the chip alone is understandably ok but the dip lifts it..

Crisps or tiny biscuit?

Burton’s Fish ‘N’ Chips - Salt and Vinegar, 25g

Is this still categorised as ‘crisps’? I mean it’s baked like the Walkers stuff but also don’t Burton traditionally make biscuits like the Wagon Wheel? And it’s not really potato based so not sure..

Still does what it says on the packet and is yum nevertheless.

Do you en-DOO-yah?

‘Limited edition’ Nduja & hot honey 150g

New from Co-op. After my less than delicious experience with Walkers hot honey crisps I was a bit hesitant. But I tell ya what..it’s goooood!

Potato good, crunch good. Well seasoned. The spiciness comes through and lingers around the taste buds more than the honey and it’s a nice warm tickle on your tongue.

Would buy again.
