Cabinetry ideas for a custom range hood under a sloped A-frame ceiling?

I’m trying to figure out a clean way to add a proper exterior-vented range hood in this kitchen, and I’m thinking a custom cabinet/hood surround may be the best route.

The range sits under a sloped A-frame ceiling, so a standard wall-mounted hood doesn’t seem like an easy fit. I’m getting the roof replaced this fall, so now seems like the time to sort this out if the best option involves venting through the roof.

For cabinet makers/custom cabinetry folks:

  • Would you build a custom hood surround here?
  • Would you use a hood insert inside a custom cabinet/box?
  • Is there a good way to make it work with the sloped ceiling without looking bulky?
  • Would you tie it into the existing upper cabinets or make it more of a standalone feature?
  • Anything I should avoid from a design/build perspective?

Main goal is real exterior ventilation, but I’d like the interior to look intentional and not like an awkward add-on. I’m also trying to keep the exterior roof vent as subtle as possible if it ends up going through the roof.

Best way to vent a range hood with a sloped A-frame ceiling?

I’m trying to figure out the cleanest way to add real exterior venting for the range in this kitchen.

The stove is under a sloped A-frame ceiling, so a normal wall-mounted hood doesn’t seem like an easy fit. I’m also getting the roof replaced this fall, so I’m hoping to sort this out now in case the best option involves a roof penetration.

Main things I’m trying to balance:

  • Good actual ventilation, not just a recirculating hood
  • Something that works with the angled ceiling
  • Not creating an awkward-looking interior setup
  • Keeping the exterior roof vent as subtle as possible

For anyone who has dealt with a similar setup, what would you do here? Custom hood, hood insert, ceiling-mounted option, sidewall vent, roof vent, or something else? Also interested in anything you’d avoid.

Solutions for adding a range hood under a sloped A-frame ceiling?

I’m trying to figure out the best way to add a proper exterior-vented range hood in this kitchen.

The range sits under a sloped A-frame ceiling, so a standard wall-mounted hood doesn’t seem straightforward. I’m less worried about picking the appliance and more interested in how to frame/build something that looks intentional and works with the angle.

I’m getting the roof replaced this fall, so now seems like the time to sort it out if roof venting is part of the solution.

For carpenters who have dealt with something like this:

  • Would you build a custom hood surround?
  • Frame a small vertical chase or soffit?
  • Use a hood insert and make the exterior look built-in?
  • Avoid cutting into this area entirely?
  • Anything I should watch out for structurally with the A-frame/rafters?

Trying to get real ventilation without ending up with something that looks awkward or hacked together.

Adding a kitchen range vent before roof replacement — best way to handle roof penetration?

Ideas for adding a range hood/vent with a sloped A-frame ceiling?

I’m looking for ideas on how to add a proper hood or vent above the range in this kitchen.

The stove sits under a sloped A-frame ceiling, so a standard hood setup doesn’t seem straightforward. I’m getting the roof replaced this fall, so I’m thinking now is probably the right time to figure this out if venting through the roof is the best option.

My main concerns are:

  • Getting something that actually vents outside and works well
  • Dealing with the sloped ceiling above the stove
  • Avoiding something that looks awkward inside
  • Keeping the exterior roof penetration as seamless/subtle as possible

Has anyone dealt with a similar setup? Would you do a custom hood, a low-profile insert, sidewall venting, roof vent, or something else? Any advice on what to avoid would be appreciated.
