Anyone else not using 529 for their kids? What other accounts are you using?

My partner and I both have our Masters degrees but went untraditional routes. To make it a long story short, yes we went to college but it didn’t cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

We are not doubting our kids going to college but aren’t sure if 529 is the best route to be putting money away for them. I understand it’s not strictly for college and if they want to go then that’s great but I don’t want that money locked up in there. As far as I understand, I know you can take out $35k eventually and transfer to IRA and/or transfer the account to another family member. I looked into UTMA/UGMA but am not fully convinced.

Am I looking for a unicorn here or should we just open IRA accounts for them? If you don’t use a 529 for your kid, then what did you decide on? TIA

What do you say when someone says you look tired?

Idk why but this phrase has always bothered me. I don’t care if I look tired, I don’t care if it’s said in front of other people, I moreso just hate the phrase. I have 2u2 so what do people expect?

How do you all respond? My MIL constantly says how tired I look. I’m not reaaaally that tired but obviously some days are worse than others

ETA: I jokingly said “how many more times are we gonna say it?” and she took a little offense to it

Dryvit/stucco exterior on a PA home

Looking at buying a home in PA that has dryvit or stucco on the front. The back and sides are siding. I’ve only heard negative things about dryvit but maybe I’m asking the wrong crowd. The home was built in 2002. Any thoughts or opinions?

Toddler son not adapting well to baby sister - help!

My son is 2.5 and my daughter is almost 11 months old. When she was first born everything was fine. Now, she’s crawling everywhere and honestly, almost walking. She’s a vocal baby, demands attention, and is super interested in her big brother’s toys and what he’s doing. She loves him but he doesn’t quite love her yet (and that’s ok!). There will be very small moments where they’ll play together but that’s if the toddler is in a good mood.

Lately, our toddler has been a handful which I know is on par for 2.5, right? However, he explodes at everything. Constantly hitting, kicking, even throwing toys sometimes at us and his baby sister. Has anyone else done through this and what did you do? We’re not trying to force him to like her but I can’t let him keep hurting us when he gets upset.

Confused by legitimacy of real estate in a hot market

Call me stupid but how come we look at a home that starts at $550k and somehow everyone’s offer skyrockets upwards of $700k??? Why even start it at $550k and make it seem like it’s “priced low”. I’m in SEPA. I understand we’re in a hot market area but this is such a mind f*ck

New house: neighborhood vs single street

I’m not sure where to ask this and to preface, I completely understand that this decision is up to us. However, we’re trying to weigh all options and scenarios as best as possible

We’re looking for a new home with a bigger backyard. Our current one is extremely small and our kids love being outside. We’re torn between neighborhood life (which we currently reside in) or a home on a single street with a handful of other homes. I grew up in a neighborhood and have fond memories and playing with others and riding bikes (which the single street living wouldn’t allow). However, there have been a few homes on a single street that have met a lot of criteria but I can’t let go of this vision that I have for my kids but I’m not sure if I’m being unreasonable. My husband is 50/50, he grew up on a single street but now that he’s experienced neighborhood life, he likes it.

Now for the SAHM part. Obviously a SAHM and we’ve already built a tiny community in our neighborhood and would like to do that again (even though I know it’s not guaranteed). But I would love to connect with other neighborhood moms, especially since I don’t have many mom friends. My husband WFH so needless to say that our house is our sanctuary through and through. I don’t want to feel isolated. We love to go on neighborhood walks but would give that up “for the right home” that has a big backyard on a single street

I understand this is a stupid issue to have but if anyone has any insight or opinion, please share. Clearly I’m torn if I’m asking Reddit for advice 😅

Thinking about 3rd but adopting?

We have 2 kids - a boy and a girl. We would love to have a third. Financial and resource speaking, we are fine. I wouldn’t mind being pregnant again but I’m not sure if I want to be. Both my kids were delivered via c section and that would most likely be the case for #3. Has anyone adopted their third child? How are the dynamics and how was the transition for your family? I’m adopted myself and am an only child. I’ve always pictured a bigger-ish family. TIA!

Third baby age gap

I have a 2.5 yr old and a 10 month old. Somehow, someway I’m getting baby fever. We’ve always wanted 3 so it’s not completely out of the picture. I’m a SAHM so daycare expenses aren’t an issue. Curious if you have a 2u2 age gap and decided to have a third - what is the age gap between baby #2 and #3?

ETA: bonus points if you had c sections and what your experience with a 3rd was like. My first was an emergency c section and second was scheduled
