My wife and I got married 14 years ago next month. We did the entire thing ourselves (with a little help from our friends, of course!) and spent about $5k on the whole thing. It was an absolute blast, and we still hear that it was the most fun our friends have ever had at a wedding 🥲 We also hear about how on the nose it was to have a taco bar at a lesbian wedding 🤭 We didn’t make the connection til after the fact.

Seeking leather work boot recs for full-time homestead life

Hey all, I’m in need of a good pair of boots that won’t fall apart in 3 months and I’m really striking out. My wife and I spend 60+ hours a week working on our homestead and my 10-year-old discontinued Chippewa boots have given all they can. They had a good run, especially considering I got them on clearance for $30 at Reny’s. They actually STILL have a lot of life in them, but after months of PT for hip and low back pain, my gait has improved and I just can’t wear them anymore, lest I f*ck my back up again. I DIGRESS. Anyway, here’s what I’m looking for.

YES
- Water-resistant leather
- Wide toe box
- Soft toe (no steel or composite)
- Grippy sole with a short or flat heel (Vibram is 👍🏻)
- Women’s size 10

NO
- Logging boots
- Super stiff soles
- Vents for water to creep into

My wife LOOOVES her leather Bogs Pearl lace boots (pictured) which I’ve worn them a few times and also love, but they were discontinued years ago and are hard to find, even on Poshmark and eBay. Every other pair of Bogs I’ve ever had have fallen apart in less than a month so these are truly unicorns.

Thanks for your help, ladies and theydies and non-binary babes!

PS - If you’re in the market for a pair of tall rubber boots, Grundens Deck Boss 15” boots are the toughest I’ve ever tried. I’ve gotten three years out of mine so far,
which is totally unheard of. Note that the newer-style shortie a Deck Boss boots are not nearly as rugged. They’re more like Xtratufs, which are not at all tough, in my experience.

Help me find the right dress for a witchy October wedding in Maine

My dear friends are getting married in October in a gorgeous cemetery chapel (👆🏻) and holding their reception at a brewery & tap room. I’m really struggling to find a dress I really like and I’m now in decision paralysis. Help meeee! I’m delighted to be growing a ton of flowers for the event and the floral collage in the second slide illustrates the mood of the event pretty well. Fall in Maine is inherently spooky and magical and I’m looking for a dress that vibes with the mood of it all. Officially a cocktail dress code but the bride & groom would be open to creative interpretations if the outfit matches the vibe they’re going for. Here’s what I’m thinking.

~COLOR: Black, emerald, burgundy, dark teal
~FABRIC: Velvet, lace, mesh, organza, chiffon
~STYLE: Midi or maxi with sleeves, to be worn with little black boots or flats

I’m tall and curvy with a full bust and hips, size 16-18. I’m thinking something with sleeves since October in Maine is chilly, plus my arms aren’t my very favorite feature. I’ve looked at a few long-sleeved velvet dresses, and I love them, but I’m afraid I’d roast in head-to-toe velvet on the dance floor.

What do y’all think? Send me your suggestions! Thanks for your help 🖤

Did I remove and replace my neighbors’ newly-planted invasive bittersweet with a native one?

OF COURSE NOT, only totally fucking insane people do shit like that. And um NO, I also DID NOT uproot the burning bushes and girdle the Norway maples on their back 40.

That is just a picture of an American bittersweet vine, it means nothing.

Here’s a visual representation of the varieties I’m growing for the wedding of two of my favorite humans, one of whom is truly one of my dearest friends. They’re getting married in early October in a cemetery chapel in New England. I love the aesthetic they’re going with and I’m delighted to grow these spooky babies this year.
