Recurring right lower abdominal pressure/pain — doctors found nothing.

Recurring right lower abdominal pressure/pain — doctors found nothing, and I have no idea what this is

I’ve been having this weird recurring pressure/discomfort in my lower right abdomen and I honestly don’t know what to make of it anymore.

It’s not severe pain. At its worst I’d say maybe 4–5/10, but most of the time it’s more of an annoying pressure/discomfort. It can last for days — one previous episode lasted almost a week. It comes and goes in intensity: it will ease up, then come back, then ease up again.

Most of the time I feel it in the lower right abdomen, but sometimes the sensation seems to move a little higher on the right side and then back down again.

Another weird thing is that my intestines make a lot of rumbling/popping noises when this happens. Sometimes I can actually feel the movement/bubbling with my hand on my abdomen. I also feel like gas gets trapped — I can pass some gas, but it feels like I can’t fully get it out.

My bowel movements are normal. I’ve been going regularly and recently had a completely normal, fairly large bowel movement, but the pressure was still there afterward, so constipation doesn’t seem to explain it.

I’ve also started noticing a possible connection with very large/fatty meals. This current episode happened after I ate an entire 32 cm pizza, some sweets, and a few glasses of banana juice. The previous major episode happened after I ate a huge KFC meal. I’m not 100% sure this is the trigger, but the pattern is starting to look suspicious.

I’ve been checked before. Blood/urine tests and an abdominal ultrasound didn’t show anything concerning, and the appendix was apparently not enlarged. Doctors basically told me it wasn’t an emergency and sent me home.

Pressing on the lower right abdomen and releasing doesn’t cause any rebound pain either.

The thing that worries/confuses me is the location. Because it’s repeatedly in the lower right abdomen, I keep wondering about the appendix — especially chronic/recurrent appendicitis (“grumbling appendix”) — but the symptoms also seem very gas/intestinal-related, especially because of the rumbling, trapped gas, fluctuating location and possible relationship with fatty food.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Especially interested if you had:

  • recurring discomfort specifically in the lower right abdomen
  • normal bloodwork/ultrasound
  • symptoms lasting several days and then disappearing
  • lots of bubbling/rumbling or trapped gas
  • symptoms triggered by large or fatty meals
  • eventually figured out what was causing it

Did it turn out to be IBS/gas/food intolerance, something involving the ileocecal area, chronic/recurrent appendicitis, or something else?

I’m considering seeing a gastroenterologist and asking whether further imaging such as a CT would make sense because I’m getting really tired of having the same symptom come back without knowing what it is.

Can't tolerate coffee at all on Zoloft?

I've been drinking 3 cups of espresso everyday for years and it never really gave me trouble but since i started zoloft 50mg 3 weeks ago as soon as i drink one cup of coffee i get tremors, shaky, anxious and so wired it's insane. I can't handle coffee at all now, does anyone else experience this? Is this common?

Day 1 of Zoloft, feeling great.

I’ve had severe OCD since childhood, and for most of my life I felt stuck in constant anxiety and OCD loops.

I was previously treated mostly for social anxiety, but I feel like that was only addressing the symptom rather than the root cause. I was on Effexor and Lyrica for a while, and while it did help my social anxiety, it didn’t really touch my OCD at all.

Today I started Zoloft, and I know it’s still very early, One thing that makes this feel different from simple placebo is that I spent the whole day expecting the worst. I was constantly waiting for anxiety, side effects, or some horrible reaction to hit me.

I actually did get anxious at first because I was overthinking everything, but after a couple of hours my mind became much quieter. So I don’t know exactly how much is placebo, relief, or the medication starting to affect my system, but the feeling is very real and very different from how Effexor felt for me.

Effexor never felt anything like this when I started it. I’m trying not to overanalyze it, but right now I just feel hopeful and calm. I'm more slow and tired than usual but it feels good it's almost like my thoughts are not sticking that much like they always do and i feel a more "empty headed".

I'm just curious if anyone else with OCD felt this on Zoloft day 1?

Has anyone developed agoraphobia after a panic attack from running into people they know?

Hi everyone,

I’m wondering if anyone else developed agoraphobia in a similar way.

A lot of stress had been building up in my life for a while — and I mean a lot. It felt like everything in my life kind of fell apart at once. Around the same time, my psychiatrist stopped my meds cold turkey, saying that I seemed fine and didn’t need medication anymore, even though I told her my whole life was falling apart.

I had been on antidepressants for years, so being cut off suddenly made everything feel even more unstable. It felt like a combination of extreme stress and intense withdrawal.

Then one day, I unexpectedly ran into some old friends. The weird part is, they were actually good friends of mine, and I could tell they genuinely wanted to talk to me. Nothing bad was happening.

But I had a huge panic attack in that moment. I felt like I was going to pass out, and I could barely speak to them because the panic was so intense.

Since then, my brain has connected going outside with the fear of running into someone I know. I live in a small city and know a lot of people, so when I go out, there’s always a real chance I’ll run into someone who wants to talk.

Now it’s not even just fear of places. It’s more like:

“What if I see someone I know, they want to talk, and I get trapped in that panic again and can’t speak?”

In my country, it’s considered very rude if you see someone you know and just say hi and walk past them, so that makes the fear even worse.

Because of this, I’ve started avoiding going out. In the last four months, I’ve only left the house around 3–4 times.

Has anyone else had agoraphobia triggered by a specific social encounter or panic attack like this? Did exposure, therapy, or medication help you get out of that loop?

I’m seriously starting to think about finding a new psychiatrist and getting back on medication because this has become unbearable. I also have OCD, so I constantly ruminate about scenarios where I run into someone and freeze again.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who relates.

Did anyone’s agoraphobia start after running into someone they know and having a massive panic attack?

Hi everyone,

I’m wondering if anyone else developed agoraphobia in a similar way.

A lot of stress and i mean a lot everything in my life kind of fell apart and that had been building up for me for a while, and my psychiatrist who i started to question about how knowledgable she is now also stopped my meds cold turkey with saying you seem fine you don't need medication even tho i told her my whole life fell apart, which made everything feel even more unstable stress plus insane withdrawals from being on antidepressants for years and then having them cut cold turkey. Then one day I unexpectedly ran into some old friends. The weird part is, they were actually my good friends and I could tell they genuinely wanted to talk to me nothing bad was happening.

But I had a huge panic attack in that moment probably because of everything that happened and i couldn't even speak to them from how much the panic was i felt like i was going to pass out. Since then, my brain has connected going outside with the fear of running into someone I know since i live in a small city and know a lot of people and i always run into someone that wants to talk when i go out. Now it’s not even just fear of places, it’s more like: “What if I see someone, they want to talk, and I get trapped in that panic again and not be able to speak?” Here in my country it's considered incredibly rude if you see someone and just say hi and walk past them
