What’s in the box??!! Part 1

Come along with me on a journey to remind myself why I do not need to go rockhounding right now.

I’m going to open some totes or empty some boxes I have stuffed away so I can remember that I already have enough rocks (for now)

All found in the bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia side, by yours truly!

Mods, can we get a Fundy flair? :)

Telling me to F off over my computer screen. Rude!

Rockhound in Atlantic Canada looking for advice!

Hey all!

A friend I’ve made through rockhounding locally in Nova Scotia has cut some pieces for me - but is having some financial troubles and is considering parting with his equipment to recoup some $$. Selfishly, I don’t want to lose access to this equipment because nobody within 3 hours has anything close. Unselfishly, the guy is the most kind, lovely dude I’ve met in a long time and I hate to see him in a position where he has to sell off the things he finds joy from.

I mentioned to him I would love to help start a lapidary/mineral club in the area and help recoup some costs - I have so so so much beautiful material I can part with because my local spot is unreal, I leave so much behind.

But I think the only real way to make some of his money back is to sell slabs. Is there much of a market in Canada for purchasing slabs from small sellers? Would you suggest eBay or our own Shopify storefront? Any advice or suggestions are welcome - I know this can be an annoying topic but I hope you can give me a bit of grace!

Attached are pics of some pieces he cut for me, all materials were found locally by me :)

Had to share this masterpiece somewhere since the original sub deleted it 😂

Shout out to u/Appropriate-Yogurt69 for the original photo and u/Mintberrycrash for the shark edit, what a labor of love.

I facilitated a Canada Goose adoption for the first time today

I used to volunteer for a wildlife rescue, so when my nan called to say a friend of hers had a baby goose and had been caring for him for 5 days, I knew I had to get him to a new family as soon as possible or he might risk having to be euthanized because he’d be imprinted on humans.

So this morning when I stumbled upon this pair and they had similar sized babies, I was hopeful. Canada Geese are known for being excellent surrogate parents, and they certainly lived up to their name today.
