I love the shape, colors and banding of this Botswana Agate I recently tumbled. It’s wonderful how different every piece of this material looks, might be my favorite type of rock to tumble.
Not polished yet, only wet. Love this one.
Oolitic agate self collected
Found this little guy on top of a large pile of discarded rocks mud and trees. Love to find them when they're still whole. With a tiny little peek of purple showing off. Found at a construction site just east of downtown St Paul Minnesota
I cut this on my lunch break today.
Was checking out a new spot with a buddy when I saw the weird eyeball pattern on this one. It has decent banding on the top too!
Found these in my backyard landscape rock (Michigan) and while I collect, my eye for spotting is still getting trained. I see banding but I don't know if it's agate banding or an imposter. There's druzy on all of them.
I’ve been hunting beach agates my whole life and I’ve never found one like this. What is that orange stripe?
The last three pictures are of the rock dry. I’m just wondering if anyone has experience tumbling this type of rock/features. Honestly, I don’t find a lot of real banded agate. Mostly I find stuff similar to this(if I’m lucky)or fairly boring chalcedony/banded chert(I love banded chert). I LOVE the little orbicular and eye type patterns and lace like patterns of these though. I think I’m going to throw it in the next batch and cross my fingers. Any suggestions?
This is only our 3rd Priday Plume Thunderegg from Richardson Ranch, OR. I can't find other examples online like this one where it's not completely filled in. Managed to cut without anything breaking. Is this unusual being only partially filled in? I plan to carefully hand polish I guess. Any thoughts or polishing advise on this would be great.
I found a bunch of colorful red and yellow jaspers up at Rocky Buttte, OR a few weeks ago, and two came out of first stage tumbling yesterday. After the tumble it opened up a whole new world in the rocks! Are these Jaspers-Agates? Jasper Moss Agates? Something else? I only have tumblers but would sure like to have a cabochon made out of that yellow one!
Arizona Fire Agate
I'm looking to have made a very specific custom made agate bangle. My old one broke :-( and I haven't been able to find a similar one browsing the internet. It's a very unique bangle and I know my odds of getting a close copy are low, but I have to try. Are there any sellers, lapidaries or anyone who can source and craft an agate bangle?
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
The first one of this specific LSA variety I have ever found, seeing how uncommon they are and I am stoked about it. Found today Cannon Falls, MN, riverside. Scanning through the exposed rock beds from low water levels. I would never have expected to find one of these with the center so intact after being carried so far from its origin point by glaciers. Truly remarkable.
Hello everyone! I'm new to tumbling and I'm about to start my first ever tumbling batch today. I have an agate that I found that has really cool banding but I'm afraid that if I tumble it the bands will fade. Can any experts give me advice on how I should proceed?
