hey guys
a little about me : i was born in kolkata but brought up in guwahati . completed my schooling from guwahati as well and now im back to kolkata for college ( loreto psychology 😭 ). So basically i dont really know anything about the city . i am bengali and understand the language but i cannot speak or read it and ngl when ive tried to speak bengali people have given me heavy side eyes :(
everytime i go out i end up getting confused with the directions and the overwhelming number of people i see on the streets. the weather here is crazy as well which makes me miss guwahati a lot :(

so any suggestions you guys can give about cafes , hangouts , social life and how to understand the city better will be heavily appreciated
fyi : im 18 so teenage friendly recommendations are appreciated :)

there is something called the registration certificate. i have no idea what that is and the school hasnt provided me any :(

im new to ccu so lets talk and make bonds before college starts ?!

but xavier’s calcutta released their first merit list today and i didnt get in for BA pol sci hons . attending xaviers has always been a dream because ive been brought up in a highly academically centered household.
xaviers is an immensely competitive college to get in for ba hons courses ( unlike bcom hons which admits almost everybody who applies ) and not getting in literally broke my spirit . i did get a 99% in my best of 4 subjects ( not including eng )
the osm system fucked up my english marks and i ended up getting a 93 in a subject which i have always considered myself to be very good at.
and because xaviers is a catholic institution they give a lot of importance to english particularly for ba hons courses and count it twice while calculating their merit index

i did give the cuet exam and ended up getting a raw score of 917 acc to the provisional answer key . but yet i remain super skeptical because im general and i want high demand courses like psychology, pol sci and geography hons . i dont have any reservations other than the single girl child quota. and also because im quite unfamiliar to the du admission scenario i dont know if this score is good enough for what im aiming

plus not getting into xaviers is making me question my worth because im seeing people with 90% in their boards getting in (for bcom hons) while i being a school topper cannot get in by the first list .

i really hope that some of you guys get in touch either through this thread or yoh guys can also dm me . i just wanted to bring out all the frustration inside of me as well as clarify the situation that i stand in :)

ive applied for ba hons pol sci this year and im not really familiar with the university as such( as i am not from ccu ) , including the syllabus for the entrance test
can u all pls help me with anything that you guys might know which would be helpful for new students including the syllabus , seniors , faculty and campus life.

i recently applied for st xaviers kolkata ( park street campus ) for ba hons in political science
i am from the cbse board and scored 97.75 % in class 12th and my merit index is 190.75 according to the formula that the college gave for calculation
i dont really know if that is a good score to get in because im not very aware of the ccu admission scenario but ive heard that its a really good college and cutoffs remain incredibly high
would be really helpful if you guys can tell me anything ranging from my admission prospects to the probability of getting into xaviers
