Deep House in Emin | MC101 | SP404 MK2

Everything here is the MC-101, in E minor:
- Track 1: Analog drum kit
- Track 2: MG BS 24 (bass)
- Track 3: SysCtrlDeepEcho 1 — a sharp synth stab with a deep rhythmic delay (the lead)

No DAW, no laptop, one take. The SP404 MK2 only records and adds master FX.

Berlin, Berlin du bist so wunderbar | SP404 MK2

I turned the German classic "Berlin, Berlin, du bist so wunderbar" into a driving tech house track — built entirely on the SP404 MK2, no DAW, one take.

Deep pluck 90s Tech House

Started from the stock "Auto Pluck" preset on the MC-101 and went into the ARP settings to reshape the melody by hand — just playing F, G# and F# until it settled into a hypnotic deep pluck that didn't really sound like the preset anymore.

Drums are a 90s house kit I've been building on the SP404 MK2 over a few sessions, finger-drummed live.

Afro House & Djembe percussion

Layering live djembe with the SP404 MK2 for an afro house groove. Drums sampled from Djembe Monks – Chipfinga.

House transitions part 2

I’ve been experimenting again with different transition techniques on the SP404. This time alternating between samples (same bank) and different drum loops.

House transitions for live performances?

I've been experimenting with using the SP404 MK2 for live performance — one bank per track/section. My current approach is just switching banks mid-pattern and hoping the timing works out, but it feels clunky.

For context: I'm playing house/tech house, no DAW, no other gear syncing the transitions. Just the SP404 (+ MC-101 for synths).

How do you handle this? Do you:

  • Let the current pattern finish before switching?
  • Use the looper to hold a section while you transition?
  • Pre-load a transition sample/FX in a dedicated bank?
  • Something else entirely?

Any tips from people doing live hardware sets with the SP404 would be hugely appreciated.

Deep House vibes created solely on the MC-101. I use the SP404 MK2 for vocals, FX and playing samples (resampled from the MC-101).
