Dominican Republic recommendations for couple

I’m going back to Dominican Republic with my partner in mid November. We are both 27, want a slightly more relaxed vibe but open to some partying and excursions/ activities.

Any recommendations what part of the island to stay? Never been to this part of the world, where are the nice swimmable beaches?

Shoes for beginner

I’m an absolute beginner, doing C25K and currently just finished week 1!

I’d like to purchase some very cheap running shoes for now and was looking for recommendations, particularly for wide feet. With the sales on atm, my budget is around £60. With how new I am to this, I’m not really looking to do a gait analysis

I tried on Adidas Duramo SL (£25 on amazon!) and sized up but still felt quite narrow for me. I’m typically a 7-7.5 women’s. I’m currently running in an old pair of VEJA Condors. They are my everyday/ just walking about shoe and a couple years old so hoping to not wear them down anymore.

Would you be concerned with this heart rate?

Context: never got into running my whole life, 27F, pretty unfit, I only do Pilates and 1 weights class per week.

I started C25K and on day 2, week 1. First outdoor run and first time I wore my Apple Watch in the last year tbh. It was 1 min jog, 1.5 brisk walk. I ended my run and it said my heart rate range was 82-191. My pace was 8:33/km.

The first run I did was on a treadmill and I just kept the speed the same throughout, with my pace being about 12:30. I did find this leaning a bit too easy. On my outdoor run, I wasn’t purposely trying to go fast. I probably was on the borderline of not being able to talk while running at some points, but I didn’t feel faint or anything.

Was just curious when I should start considering my heart rate too

Where/ how to get motivation

I’ve been thinking of getting into running now for the last month, but have made 0 attempts to actually do it. Tbf I’ve also had a cough for 2 weeks and just waiting for that to clear up.

My biggest problem is I don’t have the motivation to even leave my flat. I am a big home body and that’s my biggest hurdle. I go to the gym but only because I have classes booked. Nothing about going to the actual gym area appeals to me.

So I’d really love some inspiration (unhinged or not) to get myself out on the streets

EDIT: thank you all for your advice! I am inspired now I just need to get better and put my shoes on

Voi bikes - parking

I started using voi bikes and was able to previously park outside my flat (bike racks), but now the parking is an 8 min walk away. It’s not much, but consider that’s nearly 20 mins extra each time. Also, Lime/ Forest are still allowed to park outside my flat. Anyone experience this? I just prefer the voi as the ride feels better but wondering why these parking rules don’t apply to all

Antigua or Dominican Republic?

Planning a trip with my partner for mid November, for about 1 to 1.5 weeks. It’s our first time that side of the world, we are flying from UK. We are torn between AB and DR. I had already asked in a different subreddit about Antigua tips, but I am tempted DR mainly for the wider hotel variety and costs.

I’m keen for some advice on DR specifically
- is car rental essential
- good areas to stay? Preferably a hotel with access to nice beach
- food recs
- activity recs
- any other good to knows

And if anyone has any advice on whether to to DR or AB? Also weather wise I know it’s meant to be the end of hurricane season, but is it still not a good time to go?

Planning a trip to Antigua

Planning a trip to Antigua with my partner for mid November, spending about 1.5 weeks there. We are flying from the UK and it would be our first time on that side of the world! Would be keen to hear if it’s still quite patchy weather wise and if we should just replan for another time?

Also curious about:
- is car rental essential
- good areas to stay? Preferably a hotel with access to nice beach
- food recs
- activity recs
- any other good to knows

We are open to all experiences!

EDIT: also thinking about Dominican Republic as an alternative!

Is there an easy fix to this

Plastered our ceiling (progression photos attached) and there’s a part of it where we can still see the seam. It’s a bit hard to capture on camera but it’s not the full length of the plasterboard.

Is there a way to make it look smoother without having to replaster? It’s our first time doing this and tried to make sure it was as level as we can given the ceiling wasn’t level.

We also don’t have the right paint and not sure if that’s also what was making it look more obvious.

deinfluence me on the supersonic r

For context, I’ve gone nearly 30 years of my life without blow drying my hair every time I wash it. But I recently got into doing my hair and trying to get a hair routine down and I started with not going to sleep with wet hair. I bought a really cheap Revlon dryer (£11!) and I didn’t really know how bad it was until I went to a hotel that had a Dyson.

So I’m looking around and saw that there’s the r version which is appealing to me as it’s smaller. But is it worth it? I wash my hair every other day and even with the revlon I tried not to dry my hair after every wash cos I could feel it damaging my hair too.

Shopping advice

I’m in Xi’an, and will be travelling to Beijing and Shanghai too. I’m looking for a cotton tracksuit set (preferable local brand as someone asked for it as a souvenir) and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations?

I am staying near the bell tower in Xian and looked around the malls but haven’t found any

What am I doing wrong with twist and weave

I’m trying to learn how to add a new ball of yarn halfway through a row. I tried to twist and weaves on knit side but I always end up with this hole. I weave the ends in to patch it up, but was wondering what I’m doing wrong? And if anyone had any tips or advice on other join types
