Need some assistance with career guidance. EE major

I'm in a tough spot. I'm based in Pakistan, and EE jobs here are pretty limited — most of what's out there is power/telco sector work, and it pays next to nothing. Neither field ever interested me. What I actually want is something that blends hardware and programming — robotics would be ideal.

Bit of backstory: I originally started in CS but dropped out because of pressure from my dad, and ended up doing EE instead, half-heartedly. I don't regret the degree exactly, I just never wanted to be someone who goes out to sites or does purely physical work — I wanted to stay close to code.

I graduated about 2 years ago and never actually worked in the field. Since then it's been a BPO job and now an admin job. Looking back, I regret how I spent that time — it feels like two years I could've used to actually build a career instead. Right now I feel like I'm starting from zero. I don't remember a ton from my degree, but I know I could pick it back up if I sat down and studied.

So — where do I go from here? I'm genuinely lost and could use some real direction.

TL;DR: EE grad in Pakistan, 2 years out of school with no industry experience (BPO + admin work instead). Want to break into robotics/hardware-adjacent programming rather than power/telco or pure software. Feel behind and need a realistic path forward.

Needed some guidance

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,

I'll keep it simple — I'm looking for work, any work. I'm a hardworking guy, fluent in English, easy to communicate with and reliable. By background I'm a Software Engineer with AI/ML experience and I've worked remotely for UK-based companies — but I'm not limiting myself to that. Whatever you need done, I'm willing to show up and do it properly.

I'll be honest — I'm at a standstill and it's weighing on me. I have a rishta that means a great deal to me and I'm worried about losing it if things don't come together soon. Sometimes all it takes is one person with the right connection.

If you have anything — or know someone who does — please reach out. Happy to send my CV privately. Jazakallah Khair to anyone who shares this or makes a dua. I have full tawakkul that Allah will provide. 🤲

TL;DR — Software engineer with AI/ML background, open to any role, urgently needs income to move forward with a rishta. CV available on request. Please share. JazakAllah Khair.

Have a read, need advice and some guidance

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,

I hope this finds you all well. I'm reaching out because I'm actively looking for work and wanted to reach out to this community first — you never know where rizq comes from.

A little about me: I'm a **Software Engineer and AI/ML practitioner** with experience building production systems — RAG pipelines, automation workflows, and AI-powered applications. I've worked with UK-based companies remotely and I'm available for full-time or contract roles.

I also have **fluent English** — written and spoken — and I'm genuinely open to roles outside of tech as well. If you need someone reliable, communicative, and hardworking, I'm willing to have a conversation regardless of the field.

On a personal note, I have a rishta in progress and, as many of you will understand, having stable employment is important for that to move forward. I'm sharing this openly because I believe in the barakah of asking your community.

If you — or someone you know — has a lead, or if you're hiring and think I might be a fit, I would genuinely appreciate the connection. I'm happy to share my CV privately.

Jazakallah Khair to anyone who shares this or makes a dua for ease in this matter. I have full tawakkul that Allah will provide through whatever means He wills — and perhaps through one of you.

I joined r/IntltoUSA (and other relevant subreddits too)almost a decade ago, same reason most of you are here.

I'm from Pakistan. My dad's condition was simple — if you're going abroad, you're getting a scholarship, because we can't afford it otherwise. Fair enough. I found scholarships. Applied to some. But looking back I know I was only scratching the surface. I didn't know what I didn't know. There were probably opportunities I qualified for that I never found, and ones I did find that I could have positioned myself better for if someone had just told me what they were actually looking for.

I was witty enough to know where to look — Reddit, Discord servers, asking seniors. But knowing where to look and actually having a system are two different things. I was playing a numbers game without knowing the numbers. Shooting in a direction I hoped was right.

I didn't make it. Enrolled locally. A few friends of mine had the same story.

That stayed with me. Not as a regret exactly, but as a specific frustration — the information existed, the scholarships existed, the path existed. It just wasn't visible in any organised way.

I'm building something to change that. A proper system for students in our position — scholarships matched to your actual profile, a clear roadmap before you apply, guidance from people who went through the exact programmes you're targeting.

Before I build the wrong thing I want to hear from people who are in it right now or recently went through it.

What did you struggle with most? What would have actually moved the needle for you?
