Three Lenses that make you want to wear sunglasses

for me

  1. nonpolar serengeti vermilion (80s-mid 90s) for flat light snow, general flat light glare, cloud watching
  2. nonpolar serengeti driver (brown, 90s) for driving
  3. maui jim neutral grey (pp2 technology introduced mid 00s) for everything too bright for vermilions

i want max contrast and minimal color shift. yes, i must live with with some amount of rose or brown shift (in the old nonpolar serengetis) to get that contrast, but definitely want minimal color shift to the degree practicable. thus, i consider mj neutral grey to be the best modern lens for my goals.

Eye Wish...

... Maui Jim would put Hawaii Lava and Hawaii Sunrise (or maybe a slightly pinkredorangeish Seashine will do it) surfaces on Neutral Grey base and let me order those in thin glass for my favorite frame. I want to just barely tweak neutral grey ever so slightly into cooler tone (slightly blue/green) and drop VLT down a bit. Slightly darker and slightly cooler.

Global warming is real and the american southwest is turning into a mad max movie set. Give me darker and cooler, please.

There are so many warm variants. Too many. And how many lenses options from MJ on the cooler side of neutral? Zero. Here's an idea: a splash of Seashine with a dash of Lava and a dash of Sunrise on top of a neutral grey glass. Call it Hawaii Zephyr.

Mad Max wants soothing cool lenses 😎please that bring that exhale of ahhhhhhh as comes from a cool zephyr breeze on a hot day.

MJ Grey Neutral

I think I have a pretty decent sense of optic quality. E.g., I bought up a supply of serengeti vermilions a long time ago and still have them in rotation. Contrast, baby.

Sometimes I want a break from the slight rose tweak of the vermilions. And I don't like ambers or color-emphasis lenses.

Regarding true neutral, particularly great contrast in true neutral, is anybody beating the MJ Grey Neutral?

remaining vermilion stash

remaining inventory from my big purchase of fav vermilion wraps and fav vermilion 7000ss glaciers. that purchase happened around 1994-95, the day i heard and confirmed corning was discontinuing vermilions in prep for sale of company to bushell. at the time i felt like maybe i'd overdone it. but, events take one now and then. people covet them and i give a pair away now and then. keep your eyes alert for true vermilions of the 80s-early 90s when corning optics was in charge. 👍🏼 nonpolarized, but magically cut glare better than any softer polarized lens ever could. and hard as nails. pretty much impossible to scratch. and they provide clarity and contrast like nothing else i've ever tried. you can read very subtle surface texture clues in snowpack when the light is flat and grey.

Aftermarket Lenses: 2 Qs

not that it matters, but i have some MJ Sandy Beach 408 frames…

  1. NIGHT DRIVING: looking at non polarized clear or yellow blue-blockers, a few aftermarket manufacturers have some…. can anybody recommend from personal experience?

  2. DAYTIME OVERALL AWESOME: great great great contrast and clarity among aftermarket lens options? (ideally something approaching the ole serengeti vermillion lenses from 25ish years ago, iykyk)

Free / Plus Catalog

agmatine sulfate

i tried as something to extend NO being produced from supplementation with L-citrulline.

really bad experience. headache. kindof a narcotics feel. head was swimmy.

regarding pump and NO... seems to have actually worked against me, less pump.

be careful with this stuff, folks

Pine Bark Extract + L-Citrulline

you know what these do. one the catalytic enzyme. the other is the primary substrate for actual production.

tell me about ratios you've tried. sweet spot ratio?

embarassed maybe

here is the truth. i am analyzing myself now.

i dislike AI narration. dislike it oh so very much.

but i have discovered a few books with a female brittish AI narration. they kindof flow with a natural cadence and inflections. almost pleasant.

i hope this doesn't make me a weirdo

language learning

i am doing this with great success

i find a good long audiobook available in several languages. i also buy cheap used books in the several languages.

i once kindof learned a couple other languages but mostly forgot.

the multi audiobooks and multi recycled paperbacks = surprisingly good system

Language Learning

seeking

  1. non-English audiobooks in French, Spanish, or German

for which
2. i can also purchase two paperback books of the same story/dialogue, the first paperpack in original non-English language (ie, French, Spanish, or German) and the second paperpack in English

for example, i am presently using audible audiobook "ensemble, c'est tout' and i have paperbacks, both english and french, which i am using to refresh my French.

I also have somewhat forgotten Spanish and German that need a refresh.

so, you get the idea. non-english audiobook, two paperbacks.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

ps: yes, this is proving to be a kick-ass refresher method
