Boat Rescue Service On Ottawa River?

Hello,

Long shot and I hope I am not breaking any rules but this is as close to an Ottawa area boat forum I have found thus far.

I am looking for an on water tow service to tow my boat from a dock in Hull Marina (got towed by a boater in there and parked temporarily after hitting something in the water) to Leblanc Marina who can do repairs on my boat.

Its a 23 ft boat that has blown lower drive unit and engine that has hydrolocked.

I am searching for anyone (paid service or an individual) who can help tow my boat or refer me to someone.

TIA.

HNW Client Retention Team at TD Canada Trust?

TD vs Scotiabank: How do I get TD to compete before I move everything?

I've been offered a pretty compelling package by Scotiabank to move all of my banking and investment business over:

  • Prime-rate HELOC
  • No-fee Visa Infinite Privilege card
  • $6,000 for transferring my personal investment accounts, plus 20 free trades per year
  • $6,000 for transferring my corporate investment accounts, plus 20 free trades per year

For context:

Personal assets: ~$2.5M

  • $10K-$15K in chequing
  • Remainder in RRSP, TFSA, and non-registered brokerage accounts

Corporate assets: ~$3.5M

  • ~$250K operating float
  • Remainder in a corporate investment account

I also currently have:

  • A HELOC on my cottage at Prime + 2.5% (opened when we bought the cottage, which is now mortgage-free and worth roughly $600K-$700K)
  • A $100K unsecured LOC at Prime + 4%

The truth is that I don't really want to leave TD. I've used TD Direct Investing for more than a decade, I have a branch close to home (including a safety deposit box), and I actually prefer the Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege card.

What I'd like from TD is fairly simple:

  1. Waive the annual fee on the Visa Infinite Privilege card.
  2. Reduce my existing cottage HELOC rate to Prime.
  3. Add a second HELOC on my primary residence (mortgage-free, worth approximately $1M-$1.25M) at Prime.

Today I went into my local branch and spoke with an assistant manager. The conversation was disappointing. He essentially told me there was nothing he could do, explained how investment transfers would work if I left, and mentioned I'd have to pay fees to discharge the existing HELOC on the cottage. I was also told it would cost roughly $1,500-$2,000 to establish a HELOC on my primary residence.

Given the size of the relationship, I was surprised there didn't seem to be any interest in retaining my business. It felt like I was dismissed fairly quickly.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and successfully negotiated with TD? Are there specific departments, relationship managers, wealth management contacts, or retention channels I should be speaking with rather than a retail branch employee?

I'd particularly appreciate input from current or former TD employees.

TIA.

TL;DR: Scotiabank is offering me a prime-rate HELOC, a no-fee Visa Infinite Privilege card, and $12K total to transfer ~$6M in personal and corporate investments. I'd prefer to stay with TD, but I want them to waive my Visa IP fee, reduce my existing HELOC from Prime + 2.5% to Prime, and add a new HELOC on my mortgage-free primary residence at Prime. My local branch essentially told me there was nothing they could do. Who at TD should I be talking to, and has anyone successfully negotiated similar terms to keep their business with TD?

2021 MY LR AWD Rust on Trunk Lid

Today, I noticed that My 2021 MY LR AWD (80k miles so out of warranty) trunk lid has rust forming from left and right side of the license plate lights. See pics.

I am the original owner and no accidents or repairs have been done to the trunk lid or any other body panel.

Has anyone else seen similar rust issue on their trunk lid? I will be logging a service call but I fully expect Tesla to give me the "within spec" BS. My understanding is that since these spots haven't rusted inside out they will not be covered under the rust warranty.

Any suggestions or advise before I contact Tesla SC? Is there something I should or shouldn't say?

TIA

Burning Rubber Smell in engine bay and clanking when going from reverse to neutral

Hi All,

Today I messed up and drove off my driveway with my drive (alpha 1 gen 2) all the way down. I only noticed it when the skeg got stuck in between my interlock bricks of the driveway after dragging against bricks for about 25 ft. Skeg is scrapped off pretty badly but looks like when I have run it in sandbar with no metal pieces missing from the skeg.

After much back and forth, i managed to get the drive free but only after going back and forth several times on the bricks with some force.

Once i was out I raised the drive up and then parked it and tested the engine and drive on the hose and everything seemed to run fine except there was a grinding noise when going from reverse to neutral.

Finally, made it to the ramp and ran the boat and while checking the shift mechanism in the lake water I noticed burning rubber smell in the engine bay and I immediately turned the engine off and pulled it out. Drive was still making the clanking/rattling noise when going from reverse to neutral.

Does anyone have any ideas what should be my troubleshooting steps? I am totally lost as to what damage i could have caused.

Motor is a 2001 5.7 Carb'd with SEI16 (alpha 1 gen 2). So far I checked engine oil and there is no milk shake in there and drive oil is same blueish color.

TIA.

Trailer spindle gouged

Hi All,

This evening on my way to my marina, one of the wheels had a catastrophic bearing failure. Luckily I had some tools in the truck so i was able take the tire and hub off to see the damage.

Since it was too late in night I decided to park the trailer in a safe spot and got a whole new hub. But it looks like I will need to replace the spindle as well since its heavily gouged post bear failure (see pics attached).

My question is, if I replace the hub with new bearings, will I be able to make a 25 km journey to my marina to unload the boat while driving slow (say 30 mph)? This way I can then take the trailer to repair shop to get a new spindle welded and add new bearings and/or hub (yet again since gouged spindle will damage the new bearing most likely).

TIA for any advise.

IO7 Broken seal replacement?

Hi All,

I have an IO7 and while cleaning under the metal ring at the top, I seem to have to rough and cut the silicone seal. I suspect it was brittle and using a sharp safety pin didn't help :(. Hopefully, the picture attached is clear enough.

Anyone know how this can be fixed? I have looked around and I can't find anyone selling there broken IO7 so I can replace the body. Definately, can't find a seal I could buy and replace as it looks to be attached to the body.

TIA for any and all the help and advise you can give.

Does Previous Service Time Count towards Vacation and Pension Benefits?

Hello:

Posting this on behalf of my mother in law who is planning (still unsure) to work for Health Canada for 5-10 years. She is a physician, who has worked there about 25 years ago for 4 years as a researcher at a much lower pay.

Does anyone know if her previous service will count towards vacation day accrual?

Also, even though she had "cashed" out her pension when she left her position in the past, can she contribute to it (I believe "buy back" is the proper term but unsure!) so those years can count towards her pension again? I understand that salary differences of what she earned in 1990s as a researcher vs a physician in 2026 are vast, so the buy back number might not be palatable.

Thanks.

Hi All:

I am helping a friend replace a stock Mercury carburetor on a 2001 Mercruiser 5.7. We are planning on ordering an equivalent Sierra carburetor based on the part number that is printed on the existing carburetor (861245). However, I have a suspicion that the current carburetor might not be the original one since I see an adapter plate in the setup (see the pic).

Can anyone help confirming that we are getting the correct carb from Sierra and it will fit the engine without the adapter on there now? If not, should look at getting a different one? Merc parts diagram shows that this engine came with with two types of carbs: one was part # 861245A01 and other one is part # 964943A01.

Here is the Sierra Carb we are getting: https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/rra-18-7376n and attached is the pic of the current carb setup.

TIA!
