Supplies

My son is playing tackle football for the first time and I have a lot of questions. My husband and I don't really know anything about football and my dad hasn't played since college in the 80s so I don't know how reliable his answers are bc I feel like gear and such would have changed. He will be playing WR and DE or DL (forget which).

Does he need football gloves? He hates wearing batters gloves for baseball bc his hands get warm easily so he didn't want these unless needed. Does he need a football girdle that he is always supposed to wear or just certain times? Does he just need to wear a cup for games and when his practice schedule says full gear or should he wear it all the time? He is supposed to wear padded pants at every practice? I wanted him to wear a guardian cap on his helmet, would that most likely be allowed? I know research is questionable but, still curious. So far he has padded/belted football pants, cleats, mouth guard, cup and then uniform from school. What else should I get? He started late (miscommunication from the school) so I am not sure if the coach gave more info or if everyone else has played tackle before.

Looking for cleats

Hi! My son is starting freshman football soon and his games are on a synthetic turf field (assuming practices too). I am looking for football cleats for a turf field in size 14 mens and 2e for width. I literally don't see a single pair when searching online. Has anyone bought this size/style shoe from somewhere that can lead me where to look? Thanks!

Delayed checked bags

TlDR skip to my question: If my bags went to SLC yesterday and missed the only flight going to SFO, should I assume they would be on the flight to SFO today? Thinking of showing up at the baggage claim at arrival time.

We boarded a plane yesterday and they noticed something wrong so we had to go board another plane. This took hours and as we waited to board the next plane, my family and I would no longer make it to our connecting flight. They scheduled us for a direct flight that night as the connection wouldn't be going to the city I live in anymore.

They said our two checked bags might not make the flight. We saw they didn't at the baggage claim. We didn't see a baggage office for Frontier and left the airport. I tried to file a delayed bag claim online and it wouldn't let me saying I signed limited liability (I did not).

I called customer support to try to file a delayed bag claim and they said I need to go in person and that is the only way. I drive to the airport to file a claim (about 1.5 hrs round trip and $17 in tolls) and the person says they can't file a claim and the person who does will be in 7 hours later.

I had to go to work soon (without getting to sleep, yay), so I left the airport but she gave me a # to call. I have only gotten an answering machine so far and did get someone to respond to an email but nothing has been done yet.

Encinal freshman football

Hi! When my son was at his last track meet while attending 8th grade at Nea, someone with cross country at Encinal HS reached out to him there to add him to an email list to keep him informed on unofficial meet ups to get in shape for cross country in Fall. He actually wants to play football at Encinal in 9th grade. I am wondering if there is the same type of meet ups for football, and if so does anyone know how he gets informed about them? Thanks!

Hot mess

Flew with Frontier today (out of DTW). I am a MasterCard holder and am supposed to get two free bags. When I tried to add them, it was charging me so I contacted support and they said they added them. When my flight was just a few days away, I contacted support again through Whatsapp to tell them it was still showing as zero checked bags for me. They assured me it showed two checked bags on their end and it was fine as long as it showed it on their end.

So I go to check in my bags and the customer service lady says that it doesn't show I have two checked bags. I told her how I contacted customer service twice and they assured me I had two added. I tried to show her my support messages where they said they added them, it showed two on their end, and I shouldn't be worried. She refused to look or let me give any further info and said she would need to charge me.

I asked to talk to the manager and he was luckily a more reasonable person. He said it didn't show any notes or anything for two free bags but he saw I was a card member and should have the two bags and added them. He also took two seconds to read my messages that support had said to me.

Never trust what they say on WhatsApp apparently. After getting screwed a few hundred dollars by phone support before on a different issue, I thought having it in writing would benefit me but apparently not if they refuse to read it. I know Frontier is budget but I feel like they should be able to provide very basic customer service 🫠.

Checked luggage and layover

I usually travel light but this time I am going to have checked luggage. I am flying SFO to DTW but have a 13 hour layover in DEN. I want to leave the airport in DEN during the layover so do I have to get my luggage or will it be transferred to my final destination? If I have to grab it in DEN can I immediately drop it at check in so I don't have to take it with me during the layover?

Mastercard free bags

I booked my first flights with my MasterCard that I linked to my Frontier account. Does it act like it is charging you for the 2 checked bags and then remove the price at the end when you're checking out or how does it work? I don't see a way to add free bags. Also wondering if I buy flights with miles but pay the small flight fee with the credit card if it still lets me have free bags for that flight? Thanks for any help?

House insurance prices for houses looking to buy

Thinking of putting an offer on a home, but concerned about home insurance price as it is an area I wasn't considering before due to environmental risks (flood potential in the distant future due to sea level rise and liquefaction). Is there a way to look at an estimate without calling every individual insurance provider? I tried doing this online with companies but I have to put in the info as if I own the home already and they want all my contact info before giving me quotes.

Home insurance

Would anyone mind saying their general location and how much they pay per month to insure their SFH? Are there any places on the main island where it is hard to find someone to insure? Do they look at sea level rise flooding/liquefaction risk/closer to beach etc and charge a lot in specific areas of the main island? Any insight would be helpful, thanks!

Sub for 14U baseball game

Hi! My son's baseball team needs 1 more player to be able to play in a tournament Sunday. He is in 14U. My son is bummed that they might not be able to play on Sunday, so hoping to find a kid that can sub. He did this when we lived in CO and had fun subbing. We have lived in Alameda for less than a year and this is our first baseball season here so thought I would reach out here as our local baseball circle is still pretty small. Message me if you want more details! I don't think they will find out what time they will play on Sunday until Saturday. The game is about 1 hour away. They are practicing in Alameda today, and your kid could probably come if someone sees this soon enough and it works out.

Best career, given this info?

I thought my 8th grader had a lot of time still to come up with a career path, but it seems they are expecting him to have an idea as he is entering HS. He doesn't know. Hoping you all can throw out some good ideas, as I am only able to think of basic jobs and I know there are tons of niche/specialized jobs I am not thinking of.

About him: He maintains A's in all subjects, but seems to excel in math and doesn't like ELA as much. He loves drawing/animation/creating comics but wants job stability and not something where he would have to "make it" to be successful. He was thinking of something math/statistics related but can't think of anything that sounds interesting enough. He isn't looking to teach. He enjoys robotics, but not so much programming. He is super extroverted and I think he would need a job that involved talking to a lot of people regularly, to truly enjoy his job. So math/communication/creativity ... can anyone think of anything that would be the best fit or areas that would be good to look into? Appreciate any help!

We aren't in a rush to move because we still have a while left on our lease but have been going to some open houses and found a house we really like and are ready to make an offer on. We sold with Redfin in a different state and I think they said we get $500 or 1K (can't remember) if we buy with them within a year so probably going to go with them but is there another option that would make more financial sense? If we don't end up getting this house, I am hoping to have a realtor that is very hands off.

If I apply for a credit card can I book tickets for my husband (traveling alone) with the credit card where he will get the perks or does the flyer need to be the person the CC is issued to?
