Passport renewal - places to get photo done correctly on London?

What the title says.

Had difficulty getting the photo to work, and figured I need to go somewhere that knows the specs for the printing.

Prefer recommendations from folks who have used the place themselves and had good experience. Stratford area preferred but can go where the service is if need be.

Thanks in advance.

Feel strange to retire

I have worked my entire life.

I had to. Since 18. Because otherwise I would not have been supported to meet my aims.

Some jobs I just took because - money. Some I did because I believed in them. I am not even counting the times I did pro bono because DV shelters also need accountants in this - only considering paid labor.

I have done everything from waitress to sales to child care, let alone my better paid career and finally retiring. Because I no longer feel the love for the work itself.

But I have never not worked myself to the bone to earn my keep, whether I liked what I did or not.

I feel weird. I suddenly feel as if I depend on my husband (even though the retirement money is both of us), or l am somehow not pulling my weight and need to show why I deserve stuff.

I know this is the patriarchy calling.

But it still calls hard. My man is so easy with his retirement but I am finding it hard. Just to even feel I deserve rest?

Anybody else been here?

Goodbye Seattle

Leaving with a heavy heart after 27 years. Can’t afford to retire in my own city. But I loved every minute here - wish I could stay.

Loved the nature, loved the culture, loved the quirk. And UW - will miss you, warts and all. Go Huskies

Expat forced to speak here

I am a BIPOC WoC. Tried 4 times to place something on London Reddit and aur removed because apparently the controllers of r/London are from that group?

No explanations. No reasons. No way to ask why.

Basically there is a group of folks harassing minority and expat folks at Stratford station. All my posts on that in the London Reddit about how they mobilize us expats or minorities for money at Stratford station are auto-removed.

No explanation. No where to ask for clarity or fix.

I have photos of all my posts and replies.

Basically a bunch of young brown men from a group by - Keith? - harass you for money. When you ask for more details they get aggressive. And when you say anything on the r/london Reddit you will get taken down sans explanation.

Do not give money without learning more. They target folks whom they imagine are soft targets. They just mistook me.

Apologies I just chose best flair. But I had no idea where to go as an immigrant once London group gave me zero explanation about why they rejected my posts. Apparently London likes peeps who predate on immigrants.

My boys are back!

Toys everywhere - so now I know they feel comfortable in this space. Don’t even have the heart to scold.

London peeps - Dahi?

So I went to M&S and to Waitrose.

Regular Dahi is - liquid?

I asked the guy and he said - well, Yogurts needs to be poured over your fruits or cereal ya?

Only alternative there was Greek yogurt all with flavors. And I don’t want that anyway even if plain.

Wheee do you get basic Dahi that isn’t a liquid?

Settling in!

Marty and Max seem to be recovering from the travel and move. Resting nicely.

Any London Maltese folks here?

We did it!

The boys are settling in and after the anxiety of flight they are recovering their equilibrium.

Now we need to find new vets (ideally near Stratford) and find out about insurance.

Plus hints on reliable groomers and dog walkers. We walk them any way but I want to make sure they get to remain socially engaged with other peeps and dogs here.

Any London Maltese folks who are willing to help me navigate the transition from US to London? DM me.

Noticed some recipes saying “eggplant/brinjal/baingan” as well as queries about what is going wrong.

The *first* rule of eggplant is the recipe should fit the variety and vice versa. It originated in the sub-continent and spread everywhere. There are as many varietals now as there are regions and cuisines.

When I came to the US decades ago I could not grasp why my dishes were awful. Bitter, seed-y. I could only find the enormous Italian ones back then. Took me a while to realize those were not bad, they had been developed for the long baking of Italian dishes like eggplant Parmesan. Some eggplants are used to recreate tje textures of meat. For eg., rhey will be more “leathery” when used in other types of dishes. Similarly, I could not recreate Chinese stir fry or do a good Thai green curry using either those or Indian store eggplants. And nothing worked for making baba ghanoush.

Took me a long time to realize - the genius of our local agricultures and cuisines is how they co-develop. Varieties and cultivars rhat work for the local climate and cuisines adapted to that and vice versa.

So the first rule of the eggplant dish - including in Indian cuisine - the recipe matches tue variety. You cannot make that lovely Bengali shorshe baigun with all eggplants. The bharta doesn’t work with all eggplants. Etc. When I go to the farmers market now, I plan the recipe based on the varieties there, instead of trying to fit the eggplant into a prior recipe.
