I just bought a new Moeck Rottenburgh Tenor in grenadilla with the 2 keys on the foot joint. I cannot play any notes with the keys closed. The middle and high registers are full and gorgeous.

Sometimes I can get down to low F and then it starts to crackle, followed by some weird sound. I've checked that my fingers are completely covering app tone holes, but this seems like a defective instrument to me. I bought it from Thomann.

Is it most likely me or could it just be a bad instrument?

I am an amateur bassoonist who also wants to play the oboe. I realize there are huge differences in reeds, embouchures, air flow etc. but if I'm doing this for my own enjoyment and no orchestral work, will embouchure muscle memory be of real concern, or if I alternate weeks should it be ok?

Interested if you know the answer, from experience.

Hi. I just bought a beautiful new Buffet E13 from Thomann (Germany). Each part of the instrument was wrapped tightly in plastic. I am wondering if that is how Buffet ships them. Thanks.

Hi. After many years of being away from the bassoon and contrabassoon, I've decided I can't live without them any longer and have decided to take the plunge and buy them both.

Heckle says they are no longer taking orders, die to backlog and years of waiting tjmes.

So I have looked at the Moosmann website, contacted Bernd and listened to many performances on YouTube. They look and sound great but they are expensive.

A couple of others are Schreiber and Kronwalt. Some of the Fox models also sound great.

I had a Heckel back in the 70s, so I know a good bassoon.

If anyone here has compared Moosmann (pref. 222E) with Schreiber, or even Amati I'd love to know. Thanks.

I have an X1 Carbon Gen 13 that has amazing sounding speakers (finally! Thanks, Lenovo). However the graphics performance isn't great, it lags, especially in CC apps (particularly InDesign, which I use the most), and there is constantly a spinning circle on the cursor, no matter what I'm doing (like background tasks that never resolve). I'm looking at the Legion above, for a variety of reasons (numpad among them too), mostly the discrete NVIDA RTX 5070, but the down-firing speakers (surprising for a gaming laptop!) are a potential dealbreaker.

So, I'm wondering if anyone here has a basis for comparison between the X1 Carbon (particularly Gen 13 or later) and this Legion, I'd be grateful to know.

I have the TP X1 Carbon Gen 13, with 32GB/1TB, Intel Core Ultra 7, 2.8K OLED display, WWAN port (5G), etc. Pretty much the default config on the Lenovo (NL) website. It is a fantastic machine... except... the lag when opening apps, as well as the spinning cursor circle that sits there and never "resolves" as I use the machine. InDesign or other CC apps take seemingly forever to load, particularly InDesign: it eventually loads one blank window, then a second one, but no UI for about 15-20 seconds. Then when it finally loads, it works ok, but not fast. If I go to close the app, clicking the "x" in the top-right closes both windows, not just the one I was working in. I don't know if it's a software config issue, like Windows Power plan, or other setting, but all drivers/Windows updates are up to date. I don't want to return it, but the lag is really frustrating, especially since I'm replacing a 3-year old IdeaPad 5 Pro that is so fast that I can't believe it sometimes (although that one has a dedicated NVIDIA GPU). Before I switch to a Legion, for example, has anyone found a solution to this? Thanks.
