First car ever is a 2006 BMW X5 3.0i (LPG) at €6,500 a good buy?

Looking for honest opinions, not validation.

Context: First car ever. Buying with cash, no financing available to me, so no loan Budget is tight and I want to keep some cash aside after the purchase for running costs.

The car:

2006 BMW X5, 3.0i, M54B30 engine, 231hp

LPG (autogas) conversion + petrol

\~196,000 km

Automatic transmission (classic ZF, not CVT)

€6,500, sold by a dealer, includes current year's road tax + roadworthiness inspection valid for \~2 more years

The dealer says it is accident-free and in very good condition. It also has leather seats, sunroof, parking sensors, reverse camera and Android Auto.

I would have the car fully inspected by an independent BMW specialist before buying it.

Recently replaced LPG tank

Why I'm drawn to it: Reliable naturally-aspirated inline-6 (M54, not the problematic N62 V8), classic auto trans (no CVT risk), cheaper fuel via LPG, comfortable/tall SUV.

What worries me: The E53's cooling system (plastic radiator/expansion tank/water pump) seems to be a near-universal failure point by this age. Also want to confirm if it has the self-leveling air suspension (known weak point) or standard springs.

Questions:

Is the E53 3.0i M54 generally a good version to buy?

What are the most common expensive problems at this age and mileage?

How reliable is the automatic transmission and xDrive system?

What should be checked during a pre-purchase inspection?

How much should I realistically budget per year for maintenance and repairs?

Does €6,500 sound reasonable for this car if it passes inspection?

Would you buy it, or avoid a 20-year-old X5 altogether?

Would you rather have a Toyota RAV4/Honda CR-V from the same era/budget, even with less "premium" feel?

what else would you buy with 6000-7000 euros Budget?

Appreciate real-world experience,

especially from current or previous E53 3.0i owners.

MX Master 4 warranty claim denied as 'by design' nearly a month, 4 agents, formal refusal after I complied with every request.

I'm sharing my experience with Logitech support in case it helps anyone else dealing with the same runaround. Nearly a month, four different agents, the same copy-pasted "by design" response three times, and a formal denial of warranty.

I bought an MX Master 4 on 31 January. It worked perfectly for several months. Around mid-May, the left button started clicking noticeably louder and softer than the right, causing accidental clicks that disrupt my workflow daily. This is a mouse marketed with QuietClick technology 90% less click noise.

**9 June** — Opened a support case. Submitted a video demonstrating the issue, serial number, and purchase receipt. Agent #1 escalated to a "higher support team" and promised a response within 48–72 hours.

**12 June** — No update. I followed up.

**14 June** — Agent 1 responded saying the difference is "expected and normal" because "the left button has a larger surface area, which naturally produces a louder clicking sound." Case dismissed as by design.

**Same day** — I replied disputing this. The mouse did not behave this way when I bought it. I also linked a Reddit thread where another MX Master 4 user reported the exact same issue — and that user had received TWO replacement units with the same fault.

**19 June** — Escalated again. Another 48–72 hour promise.

**25 June (6 days later)** — Still nothing. I chased again.

**27 June** — Agent #2 asked me to record a brand new video showing the serial number, a handwritten ticket number on paper, and the issue. I complied.

**1 July** — Agent #3 (replied saying he's "closely monitoring" the case. No decision, no timeline.

**1 July** — I sent a formal escalation email requesting a concrete deadline.

**5 July** — Agent #4 replied with the exact same "by design" explanation from 14 June. Word for word. As if the last three weeks never happened.

**5 July (same day)** — I pushed back again. Agent 4 then formally denied the warranty claim in writing, stating they are "unable to proceed with a replacement or refund."

So to sum up: nearly a month, four agents , two video submissions, multiple broken 48–72 hour promises, and the final answer is a copy-pasted response I already disputed three weeks ago — now with a formal denial attached.

Not once in any response did Logitech address the fact that the behaviour developed months after purchase. Their entire position is that the click difference is "by design" — but a device doesn't start behaving differently after months of normal use because of its design. That's a defect.

I've seen other posts on this sub from users dealing with the same support pattern.

All I'm asking for is what the warranty entitles me to: a replacement or refund for a device that developed a fault. That's it.

If you're going through something similar document everything and don't give up.

AirPods Max 2 vs Sony WH-1000XM6 for a mixed Apple/Samsung ecosystem?

Hey everyone,

I’m in the market for new over-ear premium headphones and I’m totally torn between the Apple AirPods Max 2 and the Sony WH-1000XM6.
My current tech setup is a bit split:

  • MacBook Air
  • iPad Air
  • Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (this is where I do most of my music listening)

I've seen reviews online saying the AirPods Max 2 have better sound quality, but I'm worried about how well they actually play with a Samsung phone. I know I’ll lose features like automatic switching, but does the sound quality suffer on Android due to codecs?

On the other hand, the XM6 supports LDAC for the S24 Ultra and multipoint connectivity across both platforms, which seems way more practical for a split setup like mine.

Im thinking to buy a usb c cable to use it with my s24 so ill not lose any sound quality.

Also about ANC, i want to use them in public transportation and flights, which one is better?

For those who have used either pair (or both) across iOS/macOS and Android, what has your experience been? Is it worth getting the AirPods Max 2 if the S24 Ultra is my daily driver for music?

Im open to other suggestions as well like Bose.

Thanks!

Mx4 Left click much softer than right

Already opened a ticket about that. Don't seem normal and I do a lot of accidental left clicks.

Hi all,

I have three UK credit cards and I'm currently on reduced income (SSP). No other debts. My income is increasing significantly from next month and I expect to clear everything by end of the year.

Here's the breakdown:

• Amex BA card — £1,042 balance, 36.3% APR, 30 days overdue, ~£35/month in interest + late fees. They've offered me their "Regain" programme: interest frozen permanently, but the card gets cancelled. Can reapply later.

• Capital One — £1,116 balance, 30.3% APR, over limit by £66, missed payment, ~£39/month bleed. Haven't called for hardship yet.

• Barclaycard — £784 balance, 0% promo until Sep 2026, DD covering minimum, fully current. No issues.

Total: ~£2,940

My plan:

  1. Accept Amex Regain (freeze interest, lose the card, clear it in few months)
  2. Call Capital One for hardship terms, keep the card, clear it
  3. Keep Barclaycard on 0%, clear before September

End result: two working cards (Visa + Mastercard), zero debt by autumn.

Question: does this strategy make sense? Anyone been through Amex Regain did it affect your ability to get a new Amex later?

Any reason to keep the Amex open and sacrifice one of the others instead?

I want the cards: for emergencies, car rentals that require them and rebuild my credit score.

Also if i am in another country and maybe i will not come back to uk what are the consequences what can they do.

Thanks in advance.
