I’m trying to make a cinematic Instagram short film inspired by the song “Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)” and I need help with direction, storytelling, and emotional flow.
The vibe is reflective/existential — about feeling disconnected while the world keeps moving around you.
Current structure:
INTRO: Scene 1: Guy sitting in a chair at night, leaned back, legs on table, earphones plugged in. Camera slowly pushes in and reveals the song playing on his phone.
Scene 2: He walks out into the city/night streets.
BODY: Scene 3: Busy street with blurred city lights. Subject walking alone while everything around him feels fast and out of focus.
Scene 4: Protagonist standing still in a crowded crossing/square while people move around him in fast motion.
CLIMAX: I want the ending to feel peaceful and emotionally satisfying — more “acceptance” than sadness.
The theme I’m aiming for is: “Life keeps moving, and maybe that’s okay.”
Would love ideas for:
a stronger climax
transitions
voiceover/dialogue lines from the song
camera/editing suggestions
symbolism/details that could make it hit harder motionally
Also trying to avoid making it feel like a generic “sad lonely guy aesthetic edit.”
Any suggestions would help.
